Although all of the 'Catch 'em All" style videos have been pretty consistent throughout the years I've made them, I think it's time to go a little outside of the norm. Today we're going to find out how easily you can catch Generation 2 Pokemon in Pokemon Red and Blue. Gen I has some of the coolest glitches in all of Pokemon, and it's super neat to see what people are capable of pulling off in these games. You should do "catch every pokemon in the game" with emerald, as messing around with the pomeg glitch can lead to ACE in gen 3, which in turn can be used to get pretty much any pokemon, including event mons. It's even possible to make them pass through bank if you know what you are doing! managed to get a perfect 6 iv glitched celebi to pass, which is amazing considering celebi is one of the rares mons in gen 3.

The effect seen at 13:55 can be prevented by completing your Pokédex first. To be more specific, each glitch Pokémon has a single normal Pokémon whose Pokédex entry controls that of the glitch Pokémon; for example, MissingNo will show its Pokédex entry if you haven’t seen Cubone.

I tried this and it worked. I completed the pokedex in Pokemon Blue and then proceded to catch Cyndaquills MissingNo, I believe the Index number is 194 and the game did not crash.

Fun fact: You can use the Mew Glitch for every pokemon still if you have battled every trainer except one long-length one. If you fly/ teleport away you can do 2 things. First you have to save, this is possible if you switch pc boxes. After that restart the game. You still need a walking animation. You can either battle the Elite Four, walk with the Museum guy at Pewter City, or the easiest of all, simply move any boulder. I prefer the one in the house in fuchsia city. After that you can go straight right to encounter a ditto. ✌🏻

So for dual type Pokemon, something that isn't apparent in the code, all monotype Pokemon are actually just the same type twice, that way, all Pokemon have the same data size for each index. Usually a Pokemon's data is (at least for gen 1) 28 bytes, so all Pokemon have that exact amount for its data structure and thus, each Pokemon has a Type 1 and Type 2 and the game is programmed to make it so if a Pokemon's first and second typing are the same . So a pure Grass type is 16 16(hex) for example. The only exceptions are the glitch typings because I guess they might have planned to have more typings and the game is set to show all of the ones that aren't Bird type as Normal, so it is technically possible to have a Pokemon that is Normal/Normal (I think, I've never tried to make a Pokemon be a glitched type called "Normal") but it wouldn't actually be Normal/Normal it would be a dual type where the second type is a "Normal" type with no weakness/resistances. (So it would effectively still be a normal type) the way the game handles this anyways, if you go above the highest index you'll have some issues as a type CAN be between 00 and FF and nothing above 1A (Dragon) is "properly" coded in, in other words, 00-1A are all "valid" typings which won't display any glitch text, and anything above 1A could result in various issues, and since a lot of Pokemon that aren't supposed to be encountered pull data from all over the place because the game is trying to interpret whatever data is present as a Pokemon, it can lead to all sorts of wacky stuff. (Assuming you didn't cover this in the video) I'd imagine you'd be able to make Croconaw not be Water/Fighting by making it type 15 15 (or pure water) rather than 15 01. (Thanks Bulbapedia for having the information available for my reference) Okay you did address it. This is why you watch the videos before you comment, kids.

I never did the mew glitch with the trainer in Cerulean, I always did it with the Gambler just below the Underground Tunnel west of Lavender Town, because that's the one I knew. And I didn't Teleport, I used Fly. However, I did to that glitch to get a Solo 100% complete Pokedex in Yellow, catching any version exclusives and trade evo's with it, by just experimenting and trying different trainer fights.

Because shininess in gen 2 is based on DV's of a pokemon. thus you can catch a pokemon in gen 1 with the right DV's it will become shiny when you trade it to gen 2. this is how People shiny hunt the Legendary birds in gen 1/2? I presume that would work with these glitch pokemon, so like if there DV's happen to be the right DV's then it's shiny? but that's still the 1 in 8092 odds? I wonder if you could use Ace to change the DV's of a pokemon? thus turning a pokemon shiny?

@@EBroxas72 Actually, you can! It's possible through Ditto and a Shiny from Gen 2 that can learn Mimic (such as the red Gyarados from Lake of Rage). Trade the Gyarados to Gen 1 and teach it Mimic. Encounter a Ditto and use Mimic to learn Transform. Have the Ditto Transform into Gyarados, then use the Mimic'ed Transform for it to Transform again. This will force the Ditto to take on the Gyarados' DVs. If you trade the Ditto to Gen 2, it WILL be Shiny! You can actually take this a step further, too. Using the Pokémon Merge glitch (learn more about it here: m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_merge_glitch). To put it in layman's terms, having an 'M (FF) in Red/Blue or Q in Yellow allows you to combine two Pokémon together. The 'donor' will pass along its typing, stats, movepool, experience growth, evolution methods, and most importantly, *its DVs* to the 'recipient'. This allows you to give any Pokémon a set of DVs that will ensure Shinyness. To trade it to Gen 2, you need to 'stabilize' the hybrid (simply deposit it to the Daycare, transfer it to Stadium 2, or evolve it). It's a convoluted process, but it *is* possible!

I'm happy to see a video talk about this glitch that I'm so fond of, that basically got me into gaming to begin with hahah in my pokemon yellow, I caught all 151 pokemon using the wild stat glitch. To go one step further, I leveled up my pokemon to a certain point to get a specific special stat for my pokemon I'm using for the glitch. The reason I went about using my pokemon to trigger the glitch wild encounter, I specifically ran into Ditto on the route shown in the video where he was encountered the Bellsprout in the video! Running into Ditto allowed it to transform into my pokemon with that certain special stat, once you make the Ditto faint, the triggered encounter will be whatever pokemon you set to find! Sorry for typing an essay lmao

There’s a bypass for certain glitch mons that have softlocking dex entries: you can bypass the new entry screen by already having a specific Pokémon registered in the dex. For example with “h poke” (the glitch with the endless cry on the Pokédex screen), the softlocking screen can be bypassed if you already have Gengar registered in the Dex beforehand. This might save a little time by not having to use to 8F method.

3:03 Okay, this is a nitpick, but a byte is composed of 8 bits (or two nibbles if you want to get fancy). So wouldn't that make a bit the smallest unit of digital info? Especially since a bit can hold information, granted it's in the form of binary, but so is a byte

Fun fact you can use 8f on virtual console to make shiny mews that pass all the bank and home checks. All of it is easier in gen 2 since coin case ace can be done earlier and easier, but its still super interesting. Sick vid dude you're actually insane for going through all that lmao
