After going through nearly every generation to catch every Pokemon, there is one last generation that still we still haven't taken a look at. Today we're going to find out how easily you can catch every Pokemon in Pokemon Sun and Moon! You know, I didn’t appreciate it at the time the game came out, but Sun and Moon actually has a pretty solid story. They really tried something different and it landed, plus team Skull was really likeable.

I appreciated it at the time. I still do. I mean I understand the complaints about the excessive cutscenes, but it was a ridiculously enjoyable experience for someone who wanted something new and different from the Pokemon series. One can argue it's still the same gym challenge with a new mask, but the setting felt wholly original and exciting.

I enjoyed it because it felt like you were founding a Pokemon League but one with a unique method of qualifying for. It really kept in the theme that these games had. Alola is a unique and special place, Ultra Beasts flock to it, totem Pokemon appear (which in my mind is similar to Alpha Pokemon in Legends: Arceus), and it’s on the opposite side of the world from Kanto (or at least very very far from it)

Kinda unrelated but gen 7 seemed to focus a lot more on cutscenes focusing on characters and whatnot rather than just story progression, which I think is a double edged sword. I think it made a lot of gen 7 stick out and it's one of my favorite gens because of how likable and fun the characters are, but I do agree that it gets a bit much at times. It's my favorite generation by far, but it can be pretty hard to replay at times due to the sheer amount of cutscenes lmao. There are a lot of cutscenes, but I think it helps to make the story and the world feel pretty alive. I think there's a lot more they could've done to make this happen while not sacrificing total player time due to the billions of cutscenes, but I don't mind it regardless. I just wanted to comment on that, since the mentions of cutscenes and the "why didn't they just describe all of this way easier" earlier on got me thinking. They definitely could've described events in a lot less but I feel like they really wanted to focus on and flesh out characters, which resulted in what we have now. Does it work? Honestly it really depends on your personal preference. I like it, but I completely understand people getting sick of it at some point.

This game got a lot of undeserved hate at release It introduced a lot of cool changes to the overall formula and it felt like a break from your typical mainline pokemon game

Pretty much every new Pokemon game gets a lot of (mostly) undeserved hate when they first come out, tbh. Like, I remember people absolutely HATING B/W back in the day, and now it seems to have a much more positive reputation. Really makes me wonder how the more divisive recent games are going to be remembered after a few gens.

What did you think about Sun and Moon vs. Ultra Sun and Moon? I think that, while it made Poni island progression a lot more fluid (you actually had a real trial captain in Poni Island instead of just the captainless Dragon Trial in the mountanis and Hapu fought you after completing the trials instead of just before the Dragon Trial), the story REALLY reeked. I know they made Necrozma more of a threat but come on, Lusamine lost a lot of threat in Ultras. Fighting Ultra Necrozma was not as satisfying as fight a corrupted Lusamine with totemized Pokemon. X(

I’ve never played beyond alpha sapphire and omega ruby and his videos are short but they explain the story which is nice to know what the story is and see the Pokémon there is. Edit: I got Pokèrus as well on a rom of Pokémon crystal and i knew I had to do whatever with it fast and I never got it on any of the games I bought. If I did then crap since I was bad at Pokémon

I'm glad you mentioned the absurd credits because I finished Moon very late at night and I was absolutely miserable watching the ending wanting to just go to sleep. And on top of that every pokemon game prior has really unique and fitting credits music but S/M's credits take so absurdly long that you just listen to the Alola theme on loop until your ears bleed.

I struggled with the trial of kiawe. Man that poison & fire type combination was deadly. Had to go and strategically catch certain types of Pokemon to finally win after 2 tries 😅
