I don't think the amount of appreciation and love I have for the way you express complex thought can be expressed through words, John. So i'll just say: Thank you.

Hey John, I followed you from the beginning of your Awakening from the meaning crisis, which I found really compelling. I strayed away from your videos for a while, putting in work to my own practices, etc, and just recently I saw your conversation with Theo Von. It really blew me away. I noticed that you were so relatable and grounded in the non-scientific setting, it was powerful seeing the fluidity in the way you were comminicating these ideas. I'm rooting for your journey, and doing my best to fully realize mine. My regards to you!

💓 When we consider the differentiation between information given meaning by intelligence and computation of data, It seems, on the surface, reasonable to make a clear distinction between man and machine. Attributing intelligence to man and computation to machine, this may in fact be a convenient illusion. I particularly enjoyed your explanation of memory, and the value of chunking.

The question is not ..."...do we want the government to have that power..?". The question is..."...who, or what, do we want to have that power?..." A version of 'that power' already occurs in multitudes of ways across multitudes of jurisdictions. We, collectively, make laws that intrude in various ways upon the lives of each of us. The power to adjudicate authenticity is nothing more than another variation of 'that power'. A significant escalation...obviously. But I think we can all agree that someone or something HAS to have the capacity to definitively arbitrate these issues. The courts already do it in numerous related areas...and the courts are nothing more (and nothing less) than an extension of the government (which makes the laws)...which is nothing more (and nothing less) than an extension of our own individual and collective attitudes and interests. So....sombrely intoning '...DO WE REALLY WANT THE GOVERNMENT TO DO X, Y, OR Z...'....when it quite obviously already is (and, by definition, SHOULD BE)...is blindingly disingenuous...and ridiculous!

Thank you John (we know each other on linkedin), smashing talk. I think the meaning crisis exists lol, in Zen Buddhism we sat it's a good problem, because you begin from it.

Hello John, I didn't find the argument that government will need to come in as a truth sayer compelling. The issue i have is that whoever posts or hosts misleading or damaging material will be taken to court. Since hosting companies don't want the liability i do imagine in the future updated TOS that users must use a tag that specifies a post was made with AI or account tags associated with AI. I think people's likeness will be something that only the person can license in the future.
@johnvervaeke Жыл бұрын
That only pushed the problem. How will the companies determine if something is authentic or not, and what is to prevent the tag from also being a fraud? The ping is that at some ping there needs to be in person authentication. Sure we could give that power to corporations but it is like that people would rather that power being given to government officials.
@Terrranfear Жыл бұрын
@@johnvervaeke I believe it may come to some type of in person authentication at some point. Like someone watches you type in your credentials into a website. But we employ a number of tactics to find out the 'truthiness' of a claim by having various levels of sources confirming the same thing. For instance in order for me to sign into my banking info I must put in my user+password in addition to the 6 digit number that comes to my cell. I believe the networks that host content and that are presently susceptible to an AI takeover will take active measures to deter bad behavior. Tech companies will not want to be open to liability and not have their product ruined. I used the 'tag' as a solution that already exists with respect to twitter that we have the 'blue' check mark to show who owns the account. I also remember and I don't really use twitter all that much, but there used to be 'state affiliated' tags associated with accounts. If there is fraud, I believe at some point someone important enough will have a serious claim and companies will as a result have to correct their behavior.

I always thought Aurelius lived a life of a hyper devout Christian, without the belief system. He did this through stoicism; I think it should be integrated with Christianity, and I cannot see any reason why the two cannot coexist.
