Full Series Ruleset
1. Play hardcore nuzlockes from Red to Violet (every single game in the series). Pokemon that enter the Hall of Fame (beat Red in GSC/HGSS) have their evolution line retired from the rest of the series. For example: if you use a Seaking in Red, you can’t use Goldeen or Seaking for the rest of the games in the series. Green, Let’s Go, and Legends Arceus are considered optional. You can also define your end-point ahead of time if you are unable to play the latest games.
2. If a Pokemon faints, it is considered “dead,” and must be released/boxed at the next available opportunity. Once dead, that specific line is no longer usable for that attempt (i.e., if Shinx dies, you can’t catch a Luxio if it appears later on during that attempt). Pokemon that die during the Elite Four are still retired since they enter the Hall of Fame. If you wipe you go back to the start of the game you are playing. Wipe = back to Red is considered a “hatelocke,” good luck with that.
3. You may only attempt to catch the first available Pokemon that appears on a route (defined by the “Met On” text, with certain exceptions such as Sun/Moon’s “Route 1” since those areas are coded as different locations).
4. Dupes clause: You can re-encounter if you’ve already captured a line of that species or if that line is retired from the series due to Hall of Fame glory. If every option on a route is a dupe/unavailable, move along.
5. Battle mode is Set.
6. No healing items or X-items in battle. Held items/berries are fine.
7. No over-leveling: You can’t level your Pokemon above the current gym leader. E4: Use the last member of E4's ace or the average level of the E4 (generally, we don't do champ's ace as the cap). For Red, we do 77 in GSC and 84 in HGSS. Kanto is capped at Blue in GSC/HGSS.
8. Ash Clause: You’re not allowed to have more Pokemon than the Gym Leader. If the gym leader has 3 Pokemon, you can only take 3. This is to encourage strategy rather than just a numbers advantage.
8a. No legendaries. Yes, we're aware some legends aren't busted, as such, only Zygarde 10% (Dog Mode) and Naganadel are allowed. In full series communities that allowed legends, fewer mons were champed and it ended up just being box legends on the champ sheet. To avoid this boring dystopia, do not catch or use legendaries. Do not pass go. Try to champ six mons. Move along.
Special Considerations: This is how most FS runners do things, but ultimately it's up to you
I. Branch Evolutions: This is up to you. Pick whether you want branch evos to be considered champs, and stick with it. Chief upon this is Eeveelutions: nearly every FS runner has a different clause for Eevee; are the Jolteon and Umbreon lines different? You decide.
II. Gift Pokemon count toward that location’s encounter; trades with NPCs do not.
III. You may catch Pokemon for the sake of evolution (i.e., Remoraid & Mantyke) or catch a retired mon to fulfil an NPC trade (however, you don’t get an additional encounter there).
IV. Eggs count toward the route they were hatched, not where they were received.
V. Do your best not to clause bad things that happen to you. You'll make mistakes; learn from them.
