All I'm going to say, is be patient. It can take multiple playthroughs to truly understand this game. On my second playthrough I only managed to build my first ship when the aliens had several destroyers parked around earth. Currently starting my third with more of an eye to grab up the best resource spots on luna as soon as lunar colonization is available.

Be ready to adapt, random generation of resources can be a bitch, mars will be your friend probably and don't snob asteroids if you are lacking in a resource.

I also started with the Resistance for a test run. It's amazing how different the start feels between this and my own experience uniting Europe under one starry banner.

I chose India and am trying to create a slightly larger India with the unification tech. But it's taking extremely long to do that, the tech "Great Nations" alone has a cost of 25.000 and then you gotta do your own 20.000 project after it. I think I can finally unify India in November 2029, but it's probably way too late. And I am way behind tech. Atleast I was able to build up India along the way, making it almost as strong as the US or China :D And controlling such a large portion of humans is incredibly useful when boosting public opinion and then getting a lot of influence.

You CANNOT afford to ignore Russia and Kazakhstan. The Baikonur Launch Complex is the biggest source of boost at the start of the game, 50% more than the United States! If you want to win the space race, that is 110% VITAL to secure because if you don't, your enemies WILL. I have learned that the hard way...

7 human factions actually, the 8th faction are the aliens, so you only need to worry slightly less in the early game.

I want to point out, the game is very deceptive in how just different are the factions. Humanity First WILL nuke Alien aligned nations, and you should not hire councilors that have loyalty loss with atrocities, you will commit them even in events for example. Yes, MANY events have faction-exclusive answers, and some are good specificially for a faction and bad for others. I personally found it’s impossible to ally with another faction entirely, you will have an ideological or political conflict eventually. The Resistance is the best faction to start because just like the Academy they don’t have a great plan for humanity, but the Academy gets royally fucked up by the fact, no suprise, they are alien invaders.

@@CrowMercury Of course, in the end that just means that the Academy turns into the Resistance, effectively, it's just a bit more painful. On the other hand, that also means you can avoid much of the conflict with the more Alien-aligned factions for quite a while. On the gripping hand, the precarious balancing of that means the Servants will likely get _very_ strong. If they ever get control of the USA, humanity is in very hot water pretty much overnight.

@@LuaanTi I don'r want to discuss strategies that will feel like I'm crouch playing with Pravus, but the best play is usually to choose one of the strong start ( I approve of USA ) and get someon with good Crackdown/Purge to make sure Servants/Protectorate don't get nukes. Do note Project Exodus tends to turns hostile at the beginning if you take USA because they want all the boost. I like that little bit of programming, even if they annoyingly keep trying to sway the nation.

I love your play through. It explains a lot of the thought that goes into every decision and what is important points to consider when playing this game. After playing it myself several times, I have come to the conclusion that the single greatest early game ability for your counselors, is to have hostile take over ability with a high admin score and a person that can investigate other councilors. You need to identify them first before you can steal their orgs. But this does multiple very powerful things. it makes your team stronger stealing their orgs and it makes them weaker. And if you steal orgs that improve your admin it allows you to steal easier plus it improves your sides control points. And you target orgs that can improve your team the most which gives you a significant boost in your teams ability to always complete there mission every turn while destroying the other teams ability to do the same. All of this is some of the largest early game boost you can do for your side. While also significantly hurting your opposition.

In my playthrough I recruited a kingpin and gave her several cartel orgs, now she's making me more money than all my controlled nations combined. My resistance is basically funded by a world-wide criminal network :D This game is amazing, there are so many different ways to play it.

This game is brilliant for role-playing. Just do your best and don't worry about things going sideways - that's just part of the story. Being on the losing end is still incredible fun and the rush to try and salvage things is wonderful. Enjoy it while you can still avoid "guides" and "tips" that ruin the whole magic of the game :D

​@@austinneece7853 Which in hindsight felt like a testbed for making Terra Invicta since both Long Wars include a grand strategy layer (for LW2, hidden information and levels of "influence" in each region, and of course, increased enemy action in the strategic front, whether enemy upgrades, or attempts to undermine you directly, like retaliation strikes) combined with the tactical gameplay. In a way, Long War is them testing the waters, what works and what doesn't for grand strategy?
