Mozzarella also doesn't stretch. It comes apart in stringy bits and rippes without stretch. Like...very soft chicken? Source: Neighbouring country of Italy. Lots of mozzarella everywhere. (You can have it smocked, which has some flavour and "stringiness", or age dried which is a bit "crumbly", but...)

Tofu is delicious. And I’m not a vegetarian or a vegan. If you don’t know how to use tofu, then don’t buy it. It is meant to absorb the flavor of the dish, not add flavor to the dish like meat. It’s just a different protein.

It doesn't even give you the same nutrients as meat. You are right the meat substitute thing is a lie going back years maybe even over a decade or two. I'm just mad that this false belief of Tofu is one of the reasons why Soybean farms are being built on land that used to be parts of the rainforest, the last lungs keeping up alive

The funny thing is I work at woolies and the thing about the "Bunch" program. You get free products and you just have to leave a review for them (thats why it feels like theyre being forced to review them, you have to review the products to get more samples). its pretty cool but yeah, thats why so many of the reviews are just super short or repeat stuff. Oh yeah also the repeated first sentence, it asks you to make one sentence about the review and then write your review separately, but it formats them together. AND all the products are woolworths group

@@AccSwtch50A lot of zoos keep cats, actually. Because like OP said, they're great at controlling pests, and zookeepers are happy when they don't need to take care of that on top of the amount of work they already do daily. Our local zoo had a black cat named Hexe ("witch" in german) that was universally known and loved and when she passed, people demanded she gets a little memorial sign.
@kearneykaktus

@@svgarpawsYep, zoos can't use poisons as to not endanger their animals so they have housecats there for the smaller pests, the larger ones like rats get shot. At my local zoo, they're not kept officially, they just wander in and either survive there or they don't. A favorite is "Devil" which is a black cat with bright reddish-orange eyes, visitors have a tendency to feed him, so he doesn't really catch that much mice anymore.

Aussie here and I may have an answer as to why people are reviewing things they wouldn't usually buy. A person came in at work and told us about a thing you can sign up to and they give you freebies and you review them. Apparently you get given more if you just accept everything. I found out about it because she came in and gave some spice thing to my coworker because she doesn't eat spicy food. 😅 Also apparently it has a several month wait list to get into the program so it must be pretty popular!

Actually it shouldn't. My grand grand mother lived in very very rural part of country they bake their own bread every month for whole month like 30+ loafs just water salt and flour im not even sure she ever used yeast because fermentation always started by adding old piece of dough from previous batch so maybe she started it like in 1903. Nevertheless the bread was covered in homemade linen (she had massive handloom in attic) and never ever get mouldy only dry and hard. My hunch is today even with great artisanal no preservatives bread they probably use too much water because its easier to work the dough. Our had lowest possible hydration and was hard as rock and i have no idea how she was able do it all by hands only. Oh and it was baked in clay wood burning stove outside like straight from medieval times.

Even milk didnt spoil like today yes it did sour but people did it intentionally and drink it but id didn't curled or rot. Everything else was just salt or smoke and obviously nothing was sterile and still people were able do it for millennia yet today almost everything is very next day off or almost inedible.

i think that the nature of reviewing groceries means you'll only get 1 star reviews because it's unlikely someone will take the time to review something they are apathetic about or like compared to something they hated, people like to complain more then to compliment so perfectly fine things one or two people had a bad time with will be reviewed as terrible
@flannelfishguy
@flannelfishguy 6 ай бұрын
really? i usually only take the time to review a product if it's something i really liked! my thought process there is that if i like the product that much, leaving a good review is a way to give a little boost to the company that makes it, plus it'll help other people find good products. sometimes I'll review really awful things too though, just not as often.

I feel like these people are expecting a luxurious gourmet product when it's a store brand. Store brand is supposed to be cheap and affordable. I think the low expectation is a given so that if you did find a hidden gem in these products, you would be pleasantly surprised. Also as an Asian, tofu is a staple food for me along with other soy product - tempeh and soy milk primarily, but I guess not everyone likes it :) Best kind of tofu is the puffy one and that kind seems very rare in Australia - most Australian tofu here is either the hard one that doesn't absorb anything or the silken one that just falls apart.

Some product might have unusual taste or just not be for me. I won’t remove any stars as long as product fresh and edible. If product taste not good yeah, I might remove a star. A two if it bitter or toooooo salty when it’s not supposed to be that way. Leaving 1 star review just because cookie is crumbly is a bit dramatic lol.

Adding corn starch when frying tofu helps a lot with texture, but you have to bring more flavor. As for subpar popcorn, the store brand kettle corn was only sweet flavored, but it burnt fast. The original and butter flavor would burn if you waited too long but non burnt and fully popped was possible way more often.

Something people don't understand is single use plastic typically makes the world/food more accessible for disabled people. A good phrase is "if you don't know why it was made, it probably wasn't made for you"

I buy an off brand popcorn and the bag has ALL over it "Do NOT use popcorn button. Stop microwave after pops slow to one pop every 10 seconds."
@FaelynDexter

I use my Popcorn button for popping sweet sweet popcorn (sorry, just trying to be silly.) But if you really want to know a good time...set your microwave for any time Over 3 minutes, stand next to your microwave, listen to the sound of the popping, when there are breaks of more than a second or two between pops (after the flurry of pops) open your microwave, remove the bag and shake gently with the small opening facing away from you (as a caution incase of a hot kernel flying out), open the back (pour into a bowl if you'd like) and enjoy.

half of these reviews are the equalivant of buying a kia and then complaining it isn't as luxurious as a rolls royce.

I’m one of these people who reviews a lot of groceries… and the reason is that they send me a lot of free groceries. I genuinely get more than half of my shopping for free these days because I review _everything_ and do so honestly. Don’t think I’ve ever given a 1 star review, the lowest I gave was a 2 star because the vegan labelled product contained ghee, and not a ghee alternative, just straight ghee. All I can imagine is that the country of origin doesn’t quite understand Western veganism and the place I buy groceries from missed it. It did make me laugh that all the (presumably) vegans buying this and reviewing it were raving about its taste and giving it 5 stars. Hopefully I helped them out though, nothing worse than not knowing what you’re eating.

Going off a story from my girlfriend, "burned and kernels" from a popcorn bag could be a microwave issue.

I think the big takeaway from this is that people are WAY more critical of something if they don't have to pay for it.

Hit the popcorn button again for a bigger bag. They usually have settings. The first press of the button is for the half bags typically

I've seen so many reviews of foods and food outlets that are either crazy, or seem completely astroturfed by the company (or anti-astroturfed by a competitor) that these days I'm not sure if it's even worth looking at them.

As a german them saying that sandwich toast bread is bland... Well toast barely qualifies as a real bread imo and no shit any toast tastes like that lol. Especially if eaten untoasted ofc
