The army changed my vocabulary. "Jacked up", "Ate up", "Squared Away", "Tracking", "Roger", "Soup Sandwich", "A Case of the Ass", "High-Speed", "Cluster F's", "Gaggle-F's". I can instantly tell other army vets from their vocab for sure.

The 4 year commitment to U.S. Army was the best life decision for me. Became aware of the civilian life from a different perspective. Also, quick to think about civilians as suspect just because your life has been so stuctured. I always felt 180 different from employers and fellow employees. I had a successful career and retired at 52. Keep your values in mind.

i joined the Air Force for a ton of reasons as it changed me heavily! before i enlisted i was in high school i couldn’t join due to bein overweight and i couldn’t pass the ASVAB so i tried college and it didn’t work out so well as i thought it would so i dropped out in my third year of college and i started partyin a ton and it got me into gettin into trouble twice and i worked in two jobs which i got fired from as i didn’t get along with anyone and i started to do dumb things and i hated authority so much since i always gave an attitude and i always talked back to anyone who pissed me off even when i was in high school i still hated authority in college and in my first two jobs. all that wasn’t going so well so i finally enlisted in the Air Force and my life finally changed thankfully! have not enlisted i probably would have been arrested or dead by now

I'm a combat army vet myself. all of the things you described are 100% true. the anxiety and crowds along with being on guard 24/7. I served in the 1st gulf war and the thing I have found that helped me. was something new that the VA is providing an that is battlefield acupuncture. it involves them putting multiple gold tabs in your ear. for pain depression, anxiety and some other things to. I was comfortable my wife noticed before I did. pain management is who you need to see. before you wouldn't have caught me dead in a busy restaurant, store even in my church I would sit all the way in the back near the door. being early and being late stand true too. drives me nuts when we have to be somewhere, an the Mrs. is dilly dallying around. thing is because I can't drive, I'm a functional quad in a wheelchair. it drives me crazy at times. lol😆

Actually, mine started going into restaurants that were crowded, like yourself wanted to sit way behind in a corner, the filling was something heavy in my chest, and not able to breathe feeling.

When parking I prefer to back in, but it is not a big problem with me. But when going to a restaurant I prefer to sit where my back is against the wall or an area were no one can get behind me. If I am seated at a table in the middle of the room, I always sit with my back to who I believe is the least likely to be a threat.

No question the US Army changes all of us in some way, it’s inevitable. There is good and bad. For me, I came away paying attention to the most detail of things, they train you to be observant at all times, and many soldiers find that stressful. To me it was a positive learning experience. On th other hand I learned that officers and NCO’s did not make good command decisions more often than not sadly. My advice is to learn and absorb as much as you can, it’ll help you in life.

I joined in 2015 and ended becoming the greatest armed forceman who ever lived. I just recently overran the previous greatest armed forceman who ever lived in George Washington in my opinion. I only have 83 days left in the U.S. Army, then getting out. Many say I should re-enlist but what more do I have to do? I’m already the armed forceman GOAT.

Not necessary but recommended you build up your strength and endurance, partake in rucking (hiking) etc and just get used to it and if you have any medical issues (literally anything) in your life, get it checked out by a doctor

Start checking out things that would interest you for a job. Start doing PT tests on your own. Start learning basic things like your general orders. Work on training your vocal cords. Learn how to yell from your diaphragm and not your throat. Learn how to lead, learn how to be a lead. Positive mental attitude is a big part of life. Embrace that.

Hey Chris. I hope you can answer this for me. I have a wife and three kids. A dead end job. I want to join the army because I want to give them a better life. I’m 27. I feel like I would have good support from my family but obviously like millions of soldiers I will miss my family very much. I really want to join still. I guess I’m just wondering what would that look like if I joined? I hope you understand how I worded this. I understand it’s extremely vague.

Your initial training will be spent away from them and can be tough at times. After that training is done they will be with you. Its then like a regular job to a point. Go to work at 6:30am, lunch at 11:30 or 12 and then off around 4:30 or 5 ish. There will be times when you work longer but its not usually all the time. Then you have the field or a deployment that might come up where you have to be apart. Check out this video that I did about free time in the Army to get an idea of when you will be home with your family. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6rYnImAfamHm8k

Backing into your parking spots now days isn't a bad idea also, due to all the civilian "clock" tower shooters. In Panama, yes an Army reference, riots could pop of in just a few minutes. Since as civilians we are armed, and don't have a team or squad there to back us up either, so fight or flight.
