I really wish i did it when i was younger (I'm 26 now so still time) just to get it over and done with.... spent the last most of my 20's doing fuck all, hanging with the wrong people, gaming nothing to show for my life, working shiity cleaning jobs and now i can't even really get a job lol. the sooner you get in the sooner you get out £££/experience... I feel like 20-23 would be a good age range to join up BUT truth is in the eye's of the beholder... join because you want to BUT not too young.

I joined as a 16.half Junior Marine back in 1975. The reason was because my Judo Instructor whilst i was in boarding school in W.Germany was a retired RM and told us about killing Germans ect.. anyway, we started off in Deal Kent, and no sh**t my Judo buddy in the same school joined two weeks after... we completed training aged 17 and three months having been of a troop of 38.passed out with 9.... best years of my life! Lord Louis Mountbatten was our VIP on Kings squad...

I thank you for this video. I'm 16, really wanted to go to the military, but it was a rushing wish because I thought I wasn't gonna do anything else. I think I would've had a better reflection if I had someone like you who actually had experience talk about the military at a young age. I agree with what you say, teenagers are still developing and they should get the support they need and deserve before making life-defining decisions. For anyone out there that is still a teenager, I really hope that you find that which you are passionate to do. I have faith that you are in a path where you are growing, good or bad moments. I believe in all of you and hope that you find purpose and support along your wonderful journey.

I’m currently getting fit using (couch to 5k)a training program recommend to me by someone from your discord. It’s helping me with my fitness, recovery etc. I’m going to sign up to the Royal Marines when I am fit enough, mast likely in December 2020. I will be 18 then and your channel is helping me out a lot, thanks for the advice. My goals are 1.5 mile 12:30 - 60 second break - 1.5 mile return run in 9:30 Push ups 50 Sit-ups 70 Pull ups 10
@planeoldpaul1512
@planeoldpaul1512 4 жыл бұрын
Hi friend, I wish you well in your future, but I would aim for 30 minute runs and aim to get to 5 miles in that 30 mins, 6 minute miles will give you a good head start. Initially on joining you will probably lose fitness from your peak but it is easier to regain fitness at that age. One other thing aim for 20 good pull ups, 2 second intervals, and do everything outside whatever the weather, good luck

The hardest exercise you will do is lifting your own body weight I promise you, you will thank me when your hanging from a beam wondering why everyone else is being shouted at. Most lessons are based on a 40 minute program, 5 min warmup 30 min core 5 min cool down, teach your body to go balls out for 30 minutes, they will add the endurance.

You can leave school after your GCSE exams in the UK (Grade 11 in US/Canada). If you stay for Grade 12 and 13 we call it "A Levels". They aren't compulsory, but you are severly shutting down your future options if you don't have any A levels. If you ever want to go into University you will need some good A level results in you chosen subject (and usually a couple of others as well). A lot of jobs will want to see good A level results from prospective candidates. I won't be 'forcing' my kids to take any particular route through life (hopefully I've raised people with good decision making and critical thinking skills by the time they leave school), but I would be failing them as a parent if I let them quite school after GCSE.

Man I'm really on the fence for this, currently 14 which is why. I believe I want to enlist, but at the same time I believe that's just my 14 yr brain telling myself I can. Wanna make the decision early so I can get nice and fit, I just don't know if I would find more success in the military as opposed to any other job.

Soggy Potato Well just workout until you finish high school and if you still want to join you can do a Uniformed public service course in college which is basically the course you take if you want to become a police officer, firefighter, navy, Royal Marines etc. That’s the course I’m doing currently and it’s fun Ngl because it gets you physically ready and just prepares you really, I picked the course because I didn’t know what I want to do as a job and tbh i still don’t know what I want to do in life but now I’m thinking about maybe joining the Royal Marines

I’ve actually applied to join the Royal Marines and I’m 16 and I’m a girl. Like I understand the difficulties that could happen as I’m still developing as a adult. I do realise that I have to start training which I do need to do. This is something that I didn’t want to hear but I think it’s right for me to actually train before doing proper training at the Royal Marines. I really wanted to join but for me to actually get into it properly and to pass I’d have to actually train at home and it’s hard in a way because I would have to be motivated. Do you have any advice so that I can do training but also getting motivated properly and doing them right things that I need to do before I train the there? Thank you again for this video it helped a lot especially as I’m a girl.

I think what you say is true, more so for some juniors than others though. Some over 18’s are still immature and struggle. I joined in 1985, when every 4 weeks was a junior troop and the alternative 2 weeks in between was adult. So on day one all my troop (296) was under 18. Though some junior troops had adults and vice versa. Juniors do exactly the same training though in my experience get it a bit harder as the lack of maturity means you get things wrong more often and this frustrates the training team, which inevitably results in corrective training! I passed out as an original aged 16yrs 10 months and l wasn’t the youngest. I did 15 years, left to become a mountain guide, river guide, ski instructor, etc, and then was asked back to train Adventurous Training instructors, so still serving, now on an FTRS contract. I have a few business’ in the background but can’t beat being in the Corps 😀

I know exactly what you mean when you say your immturity was popping out during training. I know exactly the feeling, because I was the same. I went through Catterick at 18 and even then I was too imature, and so just wasn't as switched on as guys in there 20's. I recomend joining at 21. Let your mind and body grow a bit. You'll actually do better.

i’m 16, 20 weeks in, original, i get what he’s saying, i probably would have also waited a little bit longer but it’s still going well, buttt you really can see how prone to injury us younger lads are and mentally it is draining especially in phase 1 i would suggest making sure u really are stable in your own head

To all the fellow 16year olds (or 15) if you wanna join the marines (or military in general) like me maybe consider studying public services in college, this is what I’m going to try since it gives an insight to what the military is like as well as teaching stuff for policing, firefighting etc. I’m doing this because I just want a job in the future that’s a challenge and that will keep me on my toes. It can also lead you to university to study subjects within the public services area. So it gives you a few years to decide on what you want to do exactly in the future

I'm 20, I'm nearly finishing 2nd year of a degree in engineering, and I've realized this career path will make me good money, but I'll be bored out of my mind. I was in cadets for 6 years and I loved it, and now I'm thinking a career in the military is where I really belong. But I'm still not sure. I want to finish my degree but I'm not focused and essentially below a 1st with no experience is worthless in that career path. I just want adventure and action more than anything. I could use the degree to join the RAF and go for engineering officer but I don't think that will scratch the itch. Royal marines looks brilliant but I don't know enough. I've been focusing on getting my fitness up in the meantime. I really appreciate these videos as they help with my understanding, but I wish I knew what it is like as an active member on a daily basis. It's obviously not constant action, but I'd like to know how often you'd end up on excercise or how often an option to go abroad and train comes along etc

I’ve been trying to answer this question for quite a bit, I was diagnosed with Asperger at 3 and I’m 18 now with Aspergers being barely noticeable with my personality. Would I be able to join up?

I joined straight after secondary school at 17 but I was medically discharged in week 9 because I was still growing and it gave me terrible shin splints that they said would not heal for months and months
