Love your tips and work! Im making various things for my daughter out of the cheapest or free and creative materials as possible as we're experimenting to figure out as we go to make little movies with action figures. I like that you mix paint into the joint compound whereas ive been painting after and it doesn't have the dimensional depth and blemd that actually changing the color of the medium does like yours. Another great cheap and easy as you need it material is caulk and construction adhesive like liquid nails and pl premium especially if it is a mosel that could benefit from the strength of the construction adhesive. Ive had success with actually mixing dirt and sand in to color it and mix but paint would be better then dusting the top layer with the dirt or sand. Ive used alot of actual vegetation like vines and hay stage grass. Alot of twigs and real stones and rock i find. I use actual cardboard boxes for structures and turn them on their side and glue them to create a few dollhouse style with cut away backs so she can stage her toys like a dollhouse. My dad gave me the idea of actually gluing pictures of fixtures for decor instead of finding stickers that would work and it was brilliant to me because in reality i could even take a picture of whatever style or fixture i want and then can adjust size on computer and then print or we can cut them out of magazines or newspapers or print images from internet but it was cool because i was able to turn one bedroom into her actual bedroom which shes only 5 but very invested and dedicated to it although she gets some burnout or loss of interest until i complete some more for her without her paying much attention and then she suddenly sees a good bit of progress or some cool feature like a unique staircase or i made a panic room with rifle rack with gi joe guns on it and vests and little gas masks (way beyond her depth although she was so blown by it it got her right back and giving me ideas). Took me a while but i did it while watching other shows in down time, and came up with great ideas. Theres a hidden bookshelf that spins to access panic room with old pen tubes i cut into being oxygen tanks and little cylinder pieces of plastic i cut into being drinking water. Her immediate question was "what about bathroom" lol. Im now working on scenes that are on boards of wood sp i can move or transport them outside to be used in real nature with our mini sets, thats why the buildings had to be cardboard mainly warehouse style as they will be military facilities in the deep wilderness with air strips and little boats to use on the actual creeks around us etc. Im very excited and trying to absorb as many tips and tricks from others as possible to continue the creativity ideas.

Great video. I have green stuff world rolling pins and I’ve been looking for a material that I can roll it with to make roads. Putty like milliput would work but is expensive and difficult to mix in time for larger scales. I welcome your advice. Thanks.

Can you use it in resin molds? I want to make a trim around my cabinets was thinking hot glue would keep it in place?
@Forge_n_Brush2 жыл бұрын
Maybe. I mean, if you wanted something with strength, I would recommend adding some glue to the mix while forming it. Super glue would work great to affix it to anything. Huh. If you try this, lemme know how you get along. Worth having a go. ~Fritz

So I did some googling and apparently "joint compound" and "spackle" are different substances with different properties. Which one works better for terrain? (I can only get spackle at my local hardware store unless I buy a ton)
@Forge_n_Brush3 жыл бұрын
The one I use is WATER BASED, and that's the one you want to use. It is what is used for drywall work - something I am very familiar with as well. The BIG tubs of it will last you for a long time, and they do come in much smaller tubs as well. Any DIY shop will have it.

@@Forge_n_Brush I assume by drywall work you mean drywall installation (joint compound) as opposed to drywall repair (spackle).

@@antieverything1 Water based. You can't go wrong. Thanks so much for the kind words. You take care.

I know this is a bit older but could one use colored sanded grout mixed in to achieve the same effect (color and texture)?

When you mix in white glue with your joint compound what approx. ratio do you use? Is it like half and half, more spackle than glue, etc? Thank you
@Forge_n_Brush2 жыл бұрын
HOnestly it doesn't take much - less than half glue. You will need to experiment. Also, remember to mix in the glue in small batches. Once it dries... it is hard as a rock and you can't use any left over. ~Fritz

Do you seal your items ?
@Forge_n_Brush2 жыл бұрын
Yup. Pretty much have to in order to protect them. If not a flat sealer, I will use watered down white glue to achieve this. There are other options as well. ~Fritz

@@Forge_n_Brush I'm new to this and it seems pretty fun an easy , gonna do a Planet of the Ape village and I heard a great sealer is mini wax spray on polyethylene satin , thanks again .

I always add paint to the mix - craft paint works good for this. It save you time, and ... it it ever chips, it will not come out white. Of course, it really shouldn't chip at all if you mix a dab of glue in it as well. ~Fritz
