Seeing that GeeTech jointer makes me miss Sunhill Machinery. I think the GeeTech equipment is still available online and it's worth having.

Read your particular jointers service manual. Mine states the blade should be .003" *higher* than the outfeed table. To achieve this I taped an even, level and taut piece of painters tape (~0.003" thick) on the bottom of each magnet to raise the magnet up off the outfeed table, to the exact required height.

Jeff, I like your method so I went to try it. I have the knives pushed down as far as I can get them and they still hit the jointer pal. I raised the rear outfeed table as high as it will go and the knives still hit the plastic on the jointer pal. I have had this jointer for 30 years and never moved that rear table prior to today. besides the new blades install I want to get rid of the snipe problem that has plagued me. I also noticed that the leading edge of the outfeed table is tilted down just a hair. When I put the aluminum level on both tables I can slip my feeler gauge underneath the level on the front half of the table. I cannot get the feeler gauge under the level near the rear of the outfeed table nor on the infeed table. how can I get these blades set correctly? Jeff Update on my jointer. I finally found the adjustment screws under the infeed and outfeed tables. Made the adjustment and everything is great. I found it interesting that Grizzly Tech support and not one person on youtube videos ever said to find the adjustment screws under the tables to elevate the tables above the knives. got it done by myself

Gene, I hate to say this because I had to do it myself, but I think you are going to have to shim the rear table so that it is parallel to the front. It takes a lot of time but is well worth it. It did not cure my snipe problem entirely but helped a lot. Snipe can be caused from the rear table issue or the blades being to high. If you search for videos on the table parallelism I'm sure you'll find something that will help. I did not video mine. Once I got it set, I have never moved it. My front table is about a 32nd low and I do not move that anymore either. It takes a little more time to joint boards that are wildly out but I am willing to put up with that because I get the results I want. I hope this helps. If you would like to talk on the phone I would be willing to do that as well. Send me your email and I can get you my number and we can set something up.

How tight do you need to get the gib screws? I have a powermatic 54a I picked up used and the owners manual is pretty quiet on this point. I think I went too tight and stripped out the threading in one of the gib screw holes - thought that might have been from the previous owner. Any advice here?

I tighten mine maybe an 1/8 to a 1/4 turn past snug. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

Hi Mr Fisher I love this video here Iv never seen setting jointer blades like this. I'm having a really tough time getting mine set right. I have not tried your method here yet but I'm gonna give it a whirl. My doesn't have the spring it has the jack screws. When I do this here how should I set the jack screws ? Should I lower them down to where they are not raising the blade? Iv always had trouble trying to set the knives it's very difficult for me but I think your method may be the that works for me. Thanks I also subscribed

Jeff How did you set your out feed up prior to adjusting the knives?
@JeffFischer1
@JeffFischer1 7 жыл бұрын
I have rarely adjusted the out feed table. My knives are spring loaded and are adjusted to that table. As long as your tables are parallel then the only table to adjust is the infeed. I have mine set for about a 32nd of an inch and haven't touched that in years either. I hope that helps. If not send me an email with your number and I will call you when its convenient for you.

How did you find top dead center?
@JeffFischer1
@JeffFischer1 7 жыл бұрын
By rotating the cutter head with the knife in. Before your first sharpening using the magna set on the outfeed table you will be able to see where the blade just touches at its high point. Make a mark on your fence and you should be good for the life of the tool.

I tired it but it didn't work for me.All the blades came up at different heights they were way off.I have a old jointer so back to the stick drag and dial indicater for me.:(Thanks Anyways Jeff

@Thomas998822

This method is solid. Your magnets or outfeed table must not have been square. If they were the only other source of error would be that when you tightened down the gib screws it drew the blades down off the magnets without you realizing it. OR your blades were no aligned at TDC If the table is flat, the magnets are flat and flush on a flat and level table, and the magnets are flush on the bottom of the magnet at *TDC* then this will work precisely 1000 times out of a 1000.

That's why a slick table surface and sharp knives make it an easy process. If the knives are dull and the surface "slow" then it requires more downward pressure and a tighter grip which would give you a better chance to slip. Thanks for watching.
