Drum machines can't actually *think* , so they're lost right off the bat. They are incapable of interpreting the arithmetic of the rhythm in ways that sound aesthetic to the human ear. Drum machines are *not* human, after all.

I used to say that there are, and have been so many incredible drummers that it's really impossible to say who the very best all around is (or was?).
