This is what 3 people serving a song sounds like. Music is created. Speechless. Let this video be the last word to anyone saying that humans cannot do what electronic drums can do. Having a living, breathing soul in your music gives it something that programmed drums never will. Emotion. Unpredictability. The sound that Jojo is able to capture makes electronic drums sound WEAK. This is inspiring as hell.

They arent just playing. They are showing extreme restraint. And not letting compulsion or ego come in the way of the moment. I'd define it as well rehearsed restraint. Not rehearsed performance. Restraint. Know how, and when, not to. I'm in total awe.

I saw them live about 2 years ago, just before Covid, and let me tell you, they were fkin phenomenal. They do so much improv stuff live, expanding their existing songs with little embellishments or full blown new sections. It was great, hoping to catch them live again soon. Musicians rarely come to India though which is a bummer

Nice descriptions, I've only been "playing" for 1 week myself, just practicing basic rudiments, but I saw a JoJo Mayer vid on Vic Firth channel a couple days ago and he blew my mind! This is exactly the type of drumming I'd like to do (though at a much more basic level obviously), as I like d'n'b. I can't wait to dive in to watching more of his stuff and that documentary that just came out too!

I know that Jojo gave a big shoutout to him during the show, but I just wanted to point out how amazing their sound engineer is. He is doing all kinds of crazy effects on the fly, and they are seamless. He is a master of his craft and I bet it would be hard to replace him if he fell ill or something and couldn't make a gig. I'm not sure how many people could pull something like this off without hours and hours of rehearsal time.

When a talented drummer does drum n bass it really does go next level, the way a real drummer puts their beats down is totally different to the way someone else would programme the drums, this is a lot more talented than some people think. Awesome.

A truly talented drummer is the key to any band. When I play with a group I always tell them things dont start until I walk in...because a drummer who knows their shit changes the atmosphere and the methodology behind music.

I love everything about this. The musical sensitivity, the groove, the obvious admiration these guys have for each other. I don’t think they’ll ever be another drummer like Jojo. I remember meeting him, and although he was quite serious, he answered questions with such elegance, never just allowing himself to be defined as “just” a drummer, but an artist. Thank you for this upload, it reminds me why we all do this crazy thing called music.

Triples are hard to learn at first but they're so cool. The motion is going down with the balls of your foot, then slide your foot forward hitting the footboard with your heel, then with your heel on the foot board, motion your foot like how you would tap it with your heel down. You may need a pedal with a longer footboard. I reccomend jojo's pedal
