It's kinda like in The Dark Knight when The Joker was counting on one of the boats to blow up the other boat, thereby proving his point and pushing his message that anyone and everyone can be brought down to his level. All this media shit is reminding me of that. It's like they're counting on something bad happening to prove their point and to push their own message and, like in the movie, no one's biting. At least so far, I really hope cooler heads prevail here.

a year ago I listened to a podcast which had a long time career journalist as the guest. He described how the media landscape has changed particularly after the advent of the internet and the creation of the plethora of internet based media groups. Many of these groups are dying as the market is over saturated. To compensate some groups are buying clicks from other sites and using those purchased clicks to bolster their own mediocre view counts. Much of media is desperate to attract attention and many of the journalists to my knowledge are not people whom we should trust, they often spend too much time in echo chambers and thus they lack understanding of big picture concepts. Normal people who spend their lives working and communicating with various types of people are far better equipped to analyze situations and make reasonable judgement than these ideologically or click driven journalists. Rage bait is a form of click bait too. In light of the enormous popularity of the Joker trailers I bet these journalists thought that they could make money by producing rage bait to draw in intentional Joker fans. This kind of action is immoral and until more people learn to stop taking these guys seriously and avoid clicking on these foolish articles, this kind of nonsensical media hysteria will likely continue. PS: I wrote this because I felt the need to do so. I just wrapped up writing three essays today so I expect that there will be errors. Have a good day :3

You're correct, it's a real problem. I'm a journalism student going on my last year. We've been told a lot of what's happening goes against media ethics and to avoid yellow journalism. Problem is, at the end of the day despite them saying they need diverse voices one tiny mistake-even in our social media- could keep us from getting a job and contributing to said "diversity". And most people don't realize that the little guys are just as guilty as the big outlets. I'm sorry if this seems like rambling, midterms are here. I just want to bring an element of what's ethically correct with what I hope to do as a journalist. I want to tell the story right as it's meant to be told. Not a company's version of it. People deserve the truth no matter what it pertains to not fearmongering lies

How often do people actually think... those who doesnt like to think, shut down any possiblity imediatly and start agressivly attacking stuff online or in real life. This movie proved the media exactly what the media is and the nature of people... love this movie. This movie is a lesson and also a comic fans biggest dreams! The thing that annoys me the most about this is that every one of those media outlets who started this twisted and heavily messed up what the people from the Dark Knight Shooting were politely asking. They didn’t try to shove anything. They were just concerned (and have every right to be) about what could possibly happen, all they mainly asked was for more security and maybe not show it but then back tracked on that idea. But the people at all these outlets saw this and decided to just spit in those peoples faces just to stir things up.

I know geekdom said SJW on the internet has a different term. But God forbid people like Malcolm X, MLK, Huey P Newton and many others fighting for social justice and say it's a bad thing. I just find it hilarious when people will litrally put "SJW" on anything they find that doesn't fit their shit example: black stormtrooper (Finn). I think both people from the far left and right act stupid in ways it becomes infuriating for anyone that just wants to enjoy a form of entertainment. I can go on and about how representation is important, but in some cases Hollywood is only doing it just because they rather have race and sex as a justified character, like race and sex is what makes your character. race and sex is only the icing on the cake, to create more of a dynamic story for that said character. What drives a character is his/her personality and traits. Example: static shock the animated series. Static was a well thought out character a young teen figuring out his powers while also dealing with very touchy topics. He was black which created the icing on the cake to create dynamic storytelling. Him being black did not only justified his character.

As far as I see it, the people who hate this movie, fear it, or say the movie is repugnant and irresponsible, are the exact type that should see this movie. Joker, in some way, puts up a societal mirror, and the complainers are hating what they see. This movie basically pointed the finger at them and painted them as the ones responsible for why Gotham was in such disarray, and responsible for Arthur's transformation. The self righteous hate when they're the ones that have to reevaluate their own actions.

I had no clue of whatever anyone was saying before the movie came out. It was a shock to me hearing all this "controversy" after seeing the movie becasue I was like "damn I must've been under a rock the past several months". Hunt, I'm never under a rock but I did avoid any talk of the movie so I can go in unspoiled. That being said, I think ones perspective on this movie depends on your demographic. As a black man that doesn't have the luxury of acting strange in public without having the cops called on me/arrested/shot, Ive had anxiety leaving the house for a long time. I'm not white adjacent by any means(I can't pass). When I saw this movie, it did give me a level of anxiety. I don't believe video games and movies directly cause bullshit but at the same time, the ones that are sure of themselves saying that they indeed don't cause people to commit violence will say how inspirational they're positive artworks were and how it inspired them to do great things. Just a thought, why is it logical and acceptable that something like Rocky or dragon ball can inspire someone to do "good" things but something like a Joker can't inspire "bad" things? Just a thought.

This movie pulls back the veil and psychology behind how serial killers are made. It shows how a mix of mental illness, the cruelty and apathy of society, and the judgement of the rich and media create killers. This suggests that we're all responsible for creating killers. We may not be the ingredients of a soup, but in some small way we all mix it together and when it has time to stew without intervention bad things happen. The push back on this movie is an attempt to tell people that they don't need to change. That the rich don't need to change. And that society doesn't need to change because at the end of the day they wouldn't make much money if they didn't have sensation news stories of horrific events. This movie makes you reevaluate how you treat people and the consequences of a society that loses it's empathy and compassion for their fellow man.

I had purposely diverted my attention from any info about this film until I got to see it. I had heard that people walked out of the film and I wanted to see it to try to understand. It was not difficult to understand why people walked out. You are correct, not many like to have a mirror placed in front of them. Anyone who walked out became fearful due to their very own guilty conscience, plain and simple. Considering the fact that today it could be very likely that by simply honking at another vehicle, one could quite possibly find themselves at the wrong end of a gun barrel. These people who walked out remember clearly how they have wronged someone and continue to do so. And I suppose that they should be fearful. Too many are waking up to the stark realization that they are and will always get the short end of the stick and that those who could or should be helping really just couldn't give a damn. I'll take a stab in the dark to say that there are probably quite a number of people who would do as Arthur did were they able to simply walk away and face no consequence. Personally I do believe that the entitled "should" be fearful. As society continues to crumble and these entitled feel no financial stress, those who do may very well decide to create justice on their own terms. The reality is that what has happened so many times before in history, the entitled will feel the back lash from those who continually suffer and decide they have simply had enough. On the bright side... Am I the only one who smells an Oscar for this outstanding performance ?

I just saw the movie a few hours ago. I'm not sure what movie a lot of these reviewers were watching. Some criticized the film for celebrating a villain. But it doesn't do that. Fleck's story is a sad one, but we're not meant to root for him. The riots at the end of the movie were meant to be horrifying, not inspiring. Some say said it will inspire someone to carry out a violent attack. But that's nonsense. If someone is going to do it, it's because they already had it in them to do it. Not because they were "inspired" by this movie. Also, there wasn't much violence in this movie. There is one scene I'd call violent, but other than that other than showing blood it's not more violent that any other comic movie I've seen recently.

Bro, I get you, but this wasn't it at all, man. The concern for this movie was born out of the negative parts of the community that was bred out of the success of The Dark Knight and Ledger's Joker character. Those people who "identify" with the Joker because he's chaotic and rebellious and goes against society. The type of people who see broken characters and say "he's just like me, so I'm going to be like that all the time", the kind of incel basement-dweller dudes who lurk on internet forums and write anarchy symbols on their hands. What people were worried about was THOSE type of people coming out to do dumb shit BECAUSE it's a Joker movie, not because of violence or anything else that was IN the movie. And yes, man, people are scared about the recent shootings and the kinds of people who might commit those kinds of acts feeling empowered BY the Joker character. Not the MOVIE, just the presence of the character. Those kinds of people don't understand or CARE to understand that the movie and character are supposed to be a commentary on the system and isn't supposed to be emulated, but they still DO. I KNOW people like this. I just told a dude I work with that his plan to "show up to Joker in-costume and just stare at people and smile the whole time" because he thought it would be cool...that he was a fucking moron. THOSE dudes. Creepy motherfuckers who like to ruin things for everyone else and who identify with people who've committed public acts of violence; THAT'S what people are concerned for. Like, I agree: don't be afraid to live your life or go see movies because of what goes on in the world, but people are ALLOWED to be. They're allowed to be concerned, especially when those people feel empowered to DO shit like that. And I get that there isn't some flood of reports coming out of the news or anything, but things HAVE happened. There were already two incidents at my local theaters (2 of them) where the EXACT same thing happened: a kid came to the movie with a backpack, did himself up like the Joker when he was in the theater, got up during the movie, walked in front of the screen, held up his backpack, and then set it down and walked out. That happened TWICE here. Clearly, it was just a bunch of shitty dumbass kids, but they had the BALLS to do it. THAT is the problem. That doesn't mean they should stop showing the movie or tell people not to see it, but you have to think of what it would be like to BE one of the people who witnesses something like that happen. That's fucking terrifying. What they want is for people to be aware, not afraid. There isn't an agenda, bro. And there isn't anything "pussified" about it. The theater shooting happened. People died. People are afraid it will happen again. Does that mean everyone's going to get shot up at their theater? Of course not, and people shouldn't think that. But the concern is there, and it SHOULD be. It shouldn't stop anyone from going to see the movie, because it's fantastic, but it's OKAY for people to BE concerned about it. If being even remotely concerned that I could get shot and die in a movie theater by some mouth-breather makes me a pussy, then I guess I'm a pussy. But I'm still going to live my life and see movies because it's okay and completely normal to do BOTH. Do you get me, at all?

Being completely honest, I do KINDA understand where the original concern came from. A movie about a character that's pretty much a serial killer and possibly could glorify him....there are stupid people who eat that shit up and use it to justify their actions. I'm not american, but I know there's this problem with shootings that has left everyone overly paranoid about something like that happening, so they take extreme precautions for things that only have the chance of causing one. And I think it's gonna happen with whatever seemingly controversial movie comes next until they sort out whatever the cause of this shooting problem is (I have an idea of what it is, but i'm not informed enough to argue about it)

I think a lot of the buzz about it being an incel power fantasy stems from the leaked script that came out a few months ago. The relationship between Arthur and Sophie was handled much differently there than it was in the final film.

We live in a world where a movie full of holes, nonsensical character decisions and terrible CGI (like black panther) can win awards. Meanwhile, this movie with its outstanding performances and realistic portrayals can get such ignorant hate. I dont get it. I really dont understand todays "critics".

It's fucking hilarious how the media was saying this was an incel movie and that this promotes white supremacy and racism before the release, when in actuality, the movie is a critique on classism as well as offering the warning to pay attention and be more aware of mental illness and be more considerate to those who are of poorer economic and social status to you, as well as those who suffer from mental illness. Yeah the movie's violent and dark, but it's tame compared to other dramas/action movies in terms of its subject matter. Hell, Taxi Driver and the King of Comedy - which this movie borrows from - are more disturbing movies than this because the events of those movie are more plausible and more likely to happen in real life. The media are dumbasses. Old media is dying - once Boomers die out and Gen Xers replace them, new media will be where it's at.

Bruh..... John Fukin Wick 3... Single most violent film Ive ever saw, yet its praised. The fuckin Minions movies, all Disney cartoons etc....had super villians attempting to take over the world. I will never understand the damn mindset that we "need" to place a blame on some inanimate thing for individuals bad decisions and moral judgement. Used to be Marilyn Manson causing the "evil" then movies, now games too. The problem is 1000% the broken home epidimic, the moral compass of the US is so fucked nowdays. Those sort of issues lead to mental illness growing insanley and the problems we have today.... It triggers me so bad.
