Why the Media NEEDED Joker to Fail

Media has a shaping effect on society as we know it… it is an undeniable truth... and as such… a film that skillfully highlights failure in that crafted structure means that in an inextricable way it is showing that the architects behind it… made mistakes. When confronted by the mirrored truth of one's own shortcomings… you can either accept them and improve… or try to break the mirror… and its clear what approach is being taken now.
Modern media is witnessing its own shortcomings in the mirror that Joker holds up, and because of this... they need there to be some sort of tragedy to justify their own hatred.

And how it begets itself. Many of the people who abuse Arthur through the film, perhaps excluding Murray and the bankers, are characters whose own suffering, inflicted by another, is easy to imagine. The kids who beat him in the alley at the start didn't do so out of their imaginations; they likely had so much harm done to them and passed it onto Arthur believing that it was how the world works.

First movie I felt actually treated mental illness with some respect. Rather than making it a cute little quirk or novelty. Rather than making it seem like something to be afraid of and cull. The fact that this movie exists makes me feel better about having one. Finally, somebody in popular media gets it. Phoenix did a wonderful job with the tiny details of his character. The subtle shaking and shortness of breath. That kinda stuff made me tear up. It absolutely did not make me want to murder anybody. It's art. I appreciated it like art. If anything, I felt it made people empathize instead of treating those kinds of ailments like a monkey you can make dance. You see so many people online gloat about their self-diagnosed Tourette's and DID and DPD or whatever the hell they can find on WebMD. Nobody wants anybody to know that they're sick. Displaying it like a ribbon on social media is a big red flag. Those who do have it and make it the central point of their personality just end up hurting everybody in the long run, especially themselves. It's so weird seing a channel or video be popular just because of someone else's pain. I dont think anybody watching those cares about the person as much as they want to clap when the showperson gets triggered.

YES This is the best comment here. I hate seeing girls (and guys too but it's mostly girls I've noticed) self diagnosing themselves and then never shutting up about it. @_Sol6

@@newchangeunlisted_viewer5594 Yeah. I had seen a video on my recommended prior to writing all that. Apparently there's KZbin channels that are just mentally ill people doing challenges? Waiting to get a Tic or an Episode, but for views. And then theres music artists like Billie Eillish. Her music aside, she treats her Tourette's like any normal person would. She doesn't want people to remember her for it. I'm pretty sure she knows about this kinda stuff. She outright tells people that she feels uncomfortable about it and that she doesn't want to draw attention to it. Do you know what her "fans" do? They make compilations of it. They call it cute. They call her talented IN SPITE of it, when they shouldn't care about it at all. Backstabbers. But I guess that's what's cool now. People really like how Split Personalities and Narcolepsy looks on them or the people they watch. When they know they would do absolutely nothing of value to actually support or donate to any of those causes.

@@crispy7499 Yeah. "Crazy" people are always the easiest to discriminate because there are no repercussions. Largely in part because the consensus deems them as lesser and dangerous. As illogical and as naive. Weak enough to throw into wards or lock in hospitals where their condition will only worsen. They dont understand that everybody has a little bit of that in themselves. That a few wrong turns will leave them on the other end of the spear they point at the ill. A mentally ill person has no more desire to kill someone than a regular one.

I think what really shines a light personally for this movie for me was just the fact how relatable it was. I don't mean it like 'that's so me' but all of us. This was just a good man trying to do something to make the world a better place & all it takes is a few awful moments at the wrong place & the wrong time to completely turn someone into something else. Many people think they would never be capable of such horrendous crimes but they are far from wrong. We are all evil, the only difference is the fact we were just lucky in terms of the circumstances that were played out, others? Not so much.

As well as focus on the bullying and other extenuating circumstances that 9 times out of 10 causes them to snap the media tried to blame stuff like Columbine on a bunch of BS like video games. When in reality the kids filmed tapes talking about exactly why they did it the reason being they were getting severely bullied at school. Thank you for speaking out on this. The media is so fucking wrong. This film made me feel sorry for a person with mental illness and how society is kicking him down constantly while he’s trying to do his best to keep his life together and not go into madness. It made me understand that I really don’t care or even understand people with mental illness and how difficult their life must be. It’s given me a new perspective on life. The film is disturbing and sad, the violence was the last thing on my mind and it’s not gonna make anyone want to go out and cause mayhem. That’s just stupid. Like you said the media just wants to control everything and this film is showing how society is fucked and unfair and it’s letting people down every day that need help to survive.

I worked at a movie theater when Joker released. The bag policy felt more like a talking point and making people not bring in food. We literally had to measure bags and only let in bags under 10x10in. We later changed to 12x12 then 24x24 and kept that until I left. Movie theaters have been going under for years now. The 2 places I worked at fired their professional projectionists they had for about 10-20 years.

The childish thought that there are just: victims or villains. This is something I used to think most of us grew out of. To become an adult and not know that all villains are victims is deeply worrying. But that is how the world is, so childish. Reality is being outright denied by so many, and it's so weird to see this serious topic attached to something made for entertainment. That is Joker's crime though, that it's acknowledging reality. The people against the film are painting a big sign on their foreheads, that they are the problem. The ones who are telling you that you aren't a victim anymore if you're mean. The ones who will say your suffering is invalid now, because it makes it easier for them to hate you. Those are the problem people.

Disregard for the lesser people of society, especially if they are a white male. In the movie, most of the rude and callous treatment directed towards Arthur isn't because he's mentally ill. He's just some nobody, and they treat him like garbage. Like the millions of people out there that are nobodies or such, for whatever reason. The media wanted so badly to make Joker the poster boy for the disenfranchised white males out there, often derogatorily called names by the media and 'better' people. They were hoping those outcasts and weirdos would act out like their "hero" Joker. That's why they wanted the film to fail. Because it gives a voice to those disenfranchised, fringe members of society that happen to be white. Yeah, white guys can struggle with mental and life issues too. And their problems are just as legitimate as the pet class minority of the day the SJWs are touting.

I'm writing this in July 2020, when the same Media paints a false narrative about the omnipresence of police violence & white supremacy, then excuses actual destructive rioting in the streets. But a movie like "Joker" is the real problem.
@JoelP99
@JoelP99 3 жыл бұрын
You're halfway there. The media also exaggerates the "destructive" rioting in the streets. They desire conflict. If it bleeds, it leads. Sell more advertising, make more money. 1/2 the population say the cops are the problem, 1/2 say the protesters are the problem. Insert hyperbole. Profit. Wasn't that one of the points of Joker. That we're all the problem. Instead of trying to find threats and enemies, instead of trying to one-up or get one over on another person, treat people, all people, well. Care for everyone around you, or suffer the consequences and blame no one but yourself when the world burns.

Joel Petersen one issue shown in Joker is the media’s need to cover for the elitists in society. Disneys Star Wars covered up for all its flaws, now the media flipped the script following Boyega just as BLM starts. The violence in protests being covered up, as those instigators are being exposed as wealthy class outsiders and antifa, and the media still tries to cover up the elite’s meddling. The splitting is caused by convincing both sides the other is a demon, when all they had to do was cover up the elitist causing decent. The elites enact the oppression and looting and burning, while the media covers it up and blames it on a smaller, oppressed group. Super conspiratorial, but meh

There's an infamous film about a real-life child molester (who operated in the Mansfield, Ohio area) they used to show in schools. My class was one of the last to see it. That film IS online.
