About that elevated HR rate between 2016-2019, perfectly aligns with the HR rate going up overall in NPB those years due to the ball. The ball has been SUPER dead the past 2/3 seasons. So with that said, I'd estimate his HR rate to likely be around league average in MLB.

This is a new pitch? I was throwing this pitch 20 years ago when my dad wouldn't let me throw a curve until I was 16. It was my favorite pitch out of my 4, 4-seam, 2-seam, change up, and this "ghost fork." Arm velocity and angle are the exact same for all 4 pitches, which kept me competitive when I could barely break 80mph with the 4-seam. And I learned that pitch in like 6th grade. Granted, I never played in college or above, but it got me multiple one hitters in high school. Thought this was a more well-known pitch...

Mariners management is ass backwards. They won’t make obvious decisions. Example when they won to clinch playoff, manager addressed crowd/fans proclaiming to build the team spend. Money and get quality young talent to have a lengthy push. All their signs in off season were players over 30 and only having bats and it’s not great players. Likely count mariners out. I do think mariners are eyeing Ohtani next year though.
@khure711 Жыл бұрын
@@adtemporary69 all the mariners moves this offseason look to address a few holes 2B and OF while leaving a lot of cap space for Shohei. They still left that 5th rotation spot open for competition. They don’t have a true DH either so again Shohei for DH as well. I mean all signs point to Mariners making a very competitive team while building a team around Shohei.

@@khure711 that’s what I expected from them tbh but it’s just ironic how Jerry is quite frankly doing the opposite of what he said he would.

The Japanese league consists of the Pacific League and the Central League. Major Pacific League players ○Shohei Ohtani ○Yu Darvish ○Ichiro Suzuki Major Central League players ○Yoshimoto Tsutsugo ○Seiya Suzuki ○Kei Igawa Pacific League players tend to be active. And Kodai Senga is also one of the leading pitchers in the Pacific League.I'm sure you can expect a lot. In the Japan Series (World Series in Japan), the Central League is struggling with just one win in the past 13 games against the Pacific League. In Japan, the "Se" league (central league) is sometimes ridiculed as the "Se" cond league. What's funny is that Japan's most popular baseball team (Giants) belongs to the Second League.

If the grip you show at the beginning is what he is using, that's a fork ball. Elroy Face threw that in the 1950s for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Then the split finger, a variation of the fork ball. Drops right off the table if throw correctly. If it hangs up, it gets drilled, very deep.

Serious question: how do high-profile foreign pitchers handle new catchers in the MLB? Is there an adjustment period, or is it not really a factor?
@Johnnylowfive Жыл бұрын
I think the mound and ball are bigger hurdles. I was a catcher and although you get better over time it doesn't take long at all to start building a repoire. Now Knuckle all pitchers are different as its a completely different game behind the plate. Some pitchers definitely refuse to pitch to certain guys and get a "personal catcher" but that's usually Cy Young level pitchers or real headcases
