I've generally been opposed to the idea of robo umps so far. Mainly because then coaches would have nothing to argue with, and watching a grown man throw a tantrum in public is one of the few things left in this world that brings me genuine joy. However, man this stuff is making me warm up to that idea really quick.
@Racc-Kun_YT
@Racc-Kun_YT 2 жыл бұрын
The biggest problem with robo umps is that they'll need to read a 3d strike zone that changes with every player. I'd assume that they are currently inaccurate and need more time with them before any point of implementation. The better less lazy solution is to fire bad umps tbh. If you can't do your job get replaced by someone who can. The occasional bad calls or bad game by an ump will keep the sport entertaining with arguments but at a certain point just send them down a league and fire them if no improvement is made.
@ShaneFolden
@ShaneFolden 2 жыл бұрын
the only robo ump change thats seriously being considered is automatic balls and strikes. No other calls would be robotic (ie plays at the plate). So even if we go with automatic balls and strikes the umpire will still be back there for other plays, and most people thing the umpire would still make the ball and strike signal himself, he just has something in his ear that tells him what to call
@theburnetts
@theburnetts 2 жыл бұрын
Robo umps will only call balls and strikes. So you’ll always need umps on the field to make other calls and to decide about ejections.

If it were me managing, I'd instruct the remaining pitchers in the bullpen to keep throwing at batters until every single one of them is ejected from the game and we run out of pitchers. I would make a mockery out of the game and seek revenge in the hardest possible way. One hit batter after another. One ejection after another. Bench clearing brawls. Suspensions. Run out of roster players. Forfeit the game. Send Yankee fans home angry. Scorched earth baseball.

Given what they apparently told Montoyo, the four umpires got together and jointly concluded that, due to some trash talking getting a little heated, Heineman (Blue Jays catcher) called for a beanball in a tie game, and the pitcher (Garcia) simply went along with it. So they not only ejected Garcia on really flimsy grounds, they decided to double down and insult his intelligence on top of it.

But I view this as a "We need pitchers to be more aware of their throws ESSPECIALLY in this situation, were here to play a game not kill/maim anyone." Again it should be a no tolerance rule, simply because of history and potential danger. I really do believe in these situations it should be "the powers at be" who throw out that pitcher. and force there there to be a hearing/review to decide whether the pitch was intentional or not for the purposes of fines and/or suspension.

There was also a situation in 2015 against the Royals where the Royals kept hitting Josh Donaldson when he was with the Jays and also hit Tulowitzki. Royals did this several times and still got away with it even after a warning. Yet the first time a Jays pitcher Aaron Sanchez had a pitch that missed the zone and hit a Royals player on the leg, he unfairly gets ejected. Similar thing happened in 2016 against the Rangers, with the Rangers kept hitting Bautista and then Jesse Chavez the Jays pitcher gets ejected first time a Rangers player is plunked. Also happened the same game where Bautista was punched by Odor.

The closest I'll ever get to following baseball again is these Jomboy breakdowns, most of which remind me why I don't watch it anymore.

@@HoshizakiYoshimasa you don't need attention span for stickball, just some inspiration. We're an A's family. Lack of attention span definitely isn't our problem.

I love how the sponsorship begins. No euphemisms. No beating around the bush, ahem, so to speak. Just straight to the point. "Are you ready to have sex when you want to?" That certainly perked me up. Thank you, Roman. Ok, back to the ridiculous ejections.

Watching Jomboy deconstruct the game of baseball has decimated the credibility of MLB over the last few years. I can’t watch it anymore because you now know how much of it is a farce.

Does anyone else think ref's and ump's are dictating and ruining pro sports? Growing up in the 80's&90's I find I've lost so much interest.

100%, the refs and umps in every sport now have WAY too much more. They change the outcome in EVERY game by letting their emotions get involved. People don't realize how different the outcome of games would be, if the refs/umps didn't fuck shit up. I'm not talking about human error, I'm talking about the idiotic ejections. This is basically match fixing.

I like a good baseball game from time to time but I'm a Canuck and love my hockey. That being said, I'm not as up on baseball and it's rules but it seems the refs are more interested in a little camera time than doing the JOB they get paid to do. A non bias ruling in real time, which is why I can't watch hockey as I used to. There is no regulating among players/enforcers, the unbelievable calls and non calls,, hockey has turned in to a candyass sport. Baseball is much like hockey in that a player code must be respected and if it's not, then the players NOT the umpires make things right. 💯

I definitely don’t watch as much sports as I did in the 80s and 90s. I’m down to only watching my favorite baseball team and even that has too many strikeouts a lot of times.

As a new “fan” this is why I don’t watch full games of baseball or pro football on tv, the excessive amounts of rules and power hungry refs/umps is the opposite of fun. I only watch highlight channels so i can still stay somewhat sport-literate without supporting these terrible practices.

It's probably always been kind of bad, all the camera angles, instant replay, and things like KZbin just exposed it. Rot like this doesn't just take root overnight. It's a systemic problem.
