I've generally been opposed to the idea of robo umps so far. Mainly because then coaches would have nothing to argue with, and watching a grown man throw a tantrum in public is one of the few things left in this world that brings me genuine joy. However, man this stuff is making me warm up to that idea really quick.
@Racc-Kun_YT2 жыл бұрын
The biggest problem with robo umps is that they'll need to read a 3d strike zone that changes with every player. I'd assume that they are currently inaccurate and need more time with them before any point of implementation. The better less lazy solution is to fire bad umps tbh. If you can't do your job get replaced by someone who can. The occasional bad calls or bad game by an ump will keep the sport entertaining with arguments but at a certain point just send them down a league and fire them if no improvement is made.
@ShaneFolden2 жыл бұрын
the only robo ump change thats seriously being considered is automatic balls and strikes. No other calls would be robotic (ie plays at the plate). So even if we go with automatic balls and strikes the umpire will still be back there for other plays, and most people thing the umpire would still make the ball and strike signal himself, he just has something in his ear that tells him what to call

From what I understood, and I believe Jomboy mentioned it during the Mariners/Angels brawl video that, that apparently MLB thought the umpires physically getting together and discussing the situation would be a good way to open some time for heads to be allowed to cool. They have, not only a memory, but an ego that usually shows up in games after they've already made atrocious calls. They feel the need to 'show who is boss'. @blindjustice87182 жыл бұрын
@@mrboobyhead Vegas wants games to be close until the end so either team can win. This is entirely obvious in the NFL. Especially after last season's playoffs where every game -- including half-time blowouts by the Rams and Chiefs -- came down to last second field goals or overtime. The officials only need to make one or two questionable calls that favor the team given the nod to affect a game. Watching Jomboy's videos, it's pretty clear MLB umps are doing the same sort of "one-eye-blind" officiating. The reason it feels like you are watching a rigged WWE match is because you are. There was also a situation in 2015 against the Royals where the Royals kept hitting Josh Donaldson when he was with the Jays and also hit Tulowitzki. Royals did this several times and still got away with it even after a warning. Yet the first time a Jays pitcher Aaron Sanchez had a pitch that missed the zone and hit a Royals player on the leg, he unfairly gets ejected. Similar thing happened in 2016 against the Rangers, with the Rangers kept hitting Bautista and then Jesse Chavez the Jays pitcher gets ejected first time a Rangers player is plunked. Also happened the same game where Bautista was punched by Odor.
