That first one (#10) really gets me. He wasn't even running toward the ball when it was in the air... he was running straight in towards the center of mound, then just before he ran into the runner he turns right and NOW is going for the ball, which come down around the shortstop position. Look at the direction he's running at 0:45, and then he turns right, and look where he catches the ball at 0:14. He had a clear, straight path to the ball, but instead ran at the runner, and the runner gets called for interference? Ridiculous call.

#1 always makes me sad. Heston was relatively new to the league and was putting up solid numbers like he was going to stay. 5:07 - I think it can be appealed if he runs, but the team appealing has to be committed to the appeal. So, had first caught the ball, but not touched the bag, then throwing it to third or home would have negated a possible appeal in exchange for a rundown opportunity.

The reason interference was the right call on the infield fly is that runners are allowed to advance at their own risk. Imagine you have two runners instead of one. Pop fly, infield fly goes into effect. Trailing runner decides he wants the runner on third to score so he plows into the fielder. At the same time the runner on third takes off for home. The fielder doesn't catch the ball, so the runner on third doesn't have to tag or anything. Batter is still out, but you decided not to call interference so the run counts and the trail runner just gets to go back to base. Now, all that said, yes, that was about as incidental as incidental contact can be, but it's a live ball. You can't interfere with the fielder.

#5 reminded me of a weird play that involved me in a high school baseball game. Last game of the season, and we were comfortably ahead late in the game, so our coach sent me in to bat for only my second plate appearance of the year. (Yeah, I was the worst player on the team, but Coach wanted to give me some playing time in a situation I couldn't possibly f*** up.) I drew a walk. After a brief conference, the umpires called me out because Coach forgot to announce that I was coming into the game. Yeah, Coach f***ed up my plate appearance, but he had the class to apologize to me afterward. I still laugh when I think of the experience. 🤣 (I learned that year that baseball wasn't my sport, as the bad hop I took to the chops during outfield drills jeopardized my blossoming career as a trombonist, not to mention the infield throw I caught with my left eye. I never played organized baseball again after that season.)
