5:40. This one is a real head-scratcher, because there was literally no way for the umps to get the call correct. The correct call here is a dead-ball strike. Once the ball hits the player, it's a dead ball. The guy swung, so it's a dead ball strike. It doesn't matter if the ball was put into play. The ball is dead. But, it seems that there were only two paths: he either swung and the play is not reviewable (he's out) or he didn't swing and the play is reviewable (he's awarded 1B on HBP). Neither path gets you to the correct call. What a mess.

I've been pretty anti robo ump but watching how atrocious the umps have been to start this season is actually insane to the point where it might be time

I kind of think MLB's best option is to make a Cuban the commissioner just for a day to fire Hernandez so he can't sue for racism.

That’s absolutely brilliant!

I honestly think Mark Cuban would be a better Commisioner than Rob Manfred.

0:12 why is angel gesturing foul tip if he thought it was a swing? he's a liar 😂

Yeah he flip flopped his story after an issue arose. Flip flopped the wrong way lol.

so in the guardians-mariners play, if Laureano swings, the ball hits him in the hand, and then the ball goes into play, is the correct call a dead ball and strike, or a live ball?

You think the other umps hate dealing with Angel too? Like the other ump has to argue with the coach because Angel thought it was a swing, even though no one else in the universe agrees. Like they're probably just standing there talking about Angel behind his back pretending to be talking about the call.

What's supposed to happen in a situation where the batter starts to swing, but doesn't check his swing until after it hits him? I could see that being the verdict in this play.

The man made the foul tip motion, and then says oh yeah I said it's a swing. WHICH IS IT, ANGEL?!
@georgen58828 ай бұрын
How is no one talking about the fact that he clearly does the foul tip sign with his hands on this first? I wasn’t aware umpires can change the call they made after the fact. That must be a new change this season.

Angel Hernandez will never get kicked out of the league. So long as he is an umpire, everyone else looks good.

This might be the most ridiculous piece of umpiring since I’ve been alive. Dude thought it didn’t hit him. Dude realized they were gonna challenge. Dude lied so the call wouldn’t be overturned. The Union has to go. Go to robo umpires and break up union. Any organization that stands by Angel as an umpire in Major League Baseball has zero credibility and is a plague on modern society 💥 😂.
@manvites9 ай бұрын
I don't think the union has to go. They just have to be like bro, you're an idiot and we're not going to defend you anymore. But, he'll sue just like he did when the MLB wouldn't put him in playoff/world series games as racial profiling

I got an official ruling on the Laureano call. They said he did swing, but because he swung after he was hit, the HBP counts. So order of operations matters now apparently. And I guess Torkelson swung before he was hit? I dont know, this HBP/swing thing feels like it is turning into the MLB's version of the catch rule disaster.
