That was the worst game management that I've ever seen. ASU has the ball 2nd and goal at the 3, and manages to give it back to BYU on the 48? So a BYU bounce on the hail mary could potentially have won the game? I don't know if the OC or head coach was calling those last 3 plays, but that was pure foolishness.
@r.p.90218 күн бұрын
As an ASU fan at the game. It made me angry too. In the post game presser, Dilly didn’t address this and said didn’t matter what happened at the end of the game. 🙄 and won. You have arguably the toughest RB to tackle in Scattebo, USE HIM! There’s no way BYU had enough time to score twice under a minute with no timeouts. Dillingham needs to mature and grow up!! He’s a good young coach but had to have better awareness. It was embarrassing to see him crying to the refs about the game ending and not a second left. 100% agree. Dilly overthinking way too much. Go up 12. There'd be roughly 55 sec left. BYU had 1 TO left. They'd have to score a TD, get a 2-pt conversion, get an onside kick, then score another TD to win. Less than a 1% chance of doing ALL OF THAT. Dilly being mad at the end "there's no f'n way, there's no f'n way" -- only has himself to blame. Yeah, dude, there is a f'n way. You left basically a half sec left on clock. So dumb. yeah that would have been a much better plan than how it worked out with giving byu a hail Mary chance to actually win the game. either take knees and then kick a field goal or just keep running it to try and get another TD. seems way better than running backwards when you can't actually run the clock out.
@justshanestuff8 күн бұрын
An important factor here is ASU is notoriously bad at kicking field goals. They actually had kicking tryouts mid-season not too long ago, that's how bad they are. They went for it on 4th and short inside field goal range earlier in the game just because their field goal kicking sucks so much.

The TV crew were speculating about intentional grounding on that last ASU play. It fit the basic requirements -- QB was in the pocket and chucked the ball out of bounds to avoid a sack. Had that been called, and BYU got the ball at the spot where the QB threw it, they would be 10 yards closer and that Hail Mary play could have been a lot more interesting. Of course, calling the penalty there might have caused a riot.
@ericoliver19728 күн бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. It is bad enough that the fans rushed the field; however, if the refs had tacked on a grounding penalty and an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, the outcome could have quickly become tragic. Although the loss has been horrible, BYU had 59:99:00 to win the game; the refs did what was prudent. Hopefully, the BIG 12 will make some changes. - Many folks are praising Kenny "I Love You Coach" Dillingham, but the last drive was a complete disaster. - Perhaps the commissioner has BYU and ASU replay the last down with penalties enforced at the BIG 12 championship.

@waltblackadar46908 күн бұрын
Actually, BYU should have had the ball at the ASU 20. 15 yards for the intentional grounding and another 15 on the home team for unsportsmanlike for home team fans being on the field of play with time remaining.

The conference refused to penalize the home team for the delay in the game. Further, the refs refused to officiate the last play. The ball was caught and the receiver was tackled via horse collar which should have been penalized. Could you imagine if they called that, had to clear the field again, and gave BYU another play from the 1-yard line? Imagine the chaos if they then score on that last play 😂. Either way, the ending was screwed up by ASU, the conference brass, BYU for not putting the pass in the end zone, and the refs for not calling the penalty.
