This was exactly why I came here. I was arguing that Gerwer front boarded that hill rail for a cover of skateboarder mag in 2001. I kept saying that these kids don't get the progression in the skill level of rails in the 2000-2005 era. This part, Billy Mark's part in Good and Evil, and Rodrigo TX in Can't stop The Firm video shows this. Current rail skaters and jumpers wonder how he got SOTY for his weak AF part. He only did 49 tricks and not a lot of other coverage. If they took Jon Allie to that hill rail spot in SF back then that he could have easily kickflip front boarded that rail like nothing, but took 20 plus years and everyone is blown away??? Certain people get away with doing nothing, but if Nyjah or Yuto put out that part people would get mad. People still complain about the parts they put out but it is still miles ahead of what Miles is doing. I observe skateboarding currently going through a weakening of the culture. Nobody is pushing it in the direction we need. Marc Johnson did it different by being innovative. Daewon did it differently by being innovative. Pj Ladd did it differently by being innovative. We need innovation without saturation. We don't need 360 hard flip to bs noseblunt flip out, but new approaches to old principles. The European ledge skaters have always been the most innovative skaters in this respect. People like Jesus Fernandez, Lucas Puig and JB Gillet who progress levels ahead of most popular skaters skill wise but never get proper credit or highlighted enough to make an impact on popular skateboarding. Puig's bs Smith to bs noseslide is a prime example of what I mean in regards to proper progression. No flip in, or out, but new innovation in skills and skill level. This is what skaters like Danny Way and Bob Burnquist were MADE OF. We need that now. We let youtube skaters run away with our culture and they don't know the half, so now we are inundated by their nonsense.
