I always thought that the little piece of music in the introduction was joik, but now realize that it is not. Still, I can understand that I thought so, because the little bit we heard is Difang and Igay Duana who belong to the indigenous Amis people from Taiwan. The recording was made by a French government project and EMI, and was subsequently sampled by the musical project Enigma for their international hit single "Return to Innocence". The couple sued Virgin records and a number of record labels for unauthorized use of their song without credit. The case was settled out of court and they received financial compensation as well as credit for the song, including royalties. Indigenous music from different parts of the world often have similarities. Among other things, there are many Americans who say that Sami joik reminds them of the music of various American indigenous artists.

Because we’re all related if you go back far enough. Indigenous music is similar also due to the fact that our pre contact and pre colonial culture and religion was heavily tied and connected to nature. The Proto Finns, ancestors to the indigenous Sámi, Finns and Estonians migrated to northern Norway during the Last Ice Age from Siberia and they are therefore distant related to all Native Americans.

The Sámi is the only people that hold the status as indigenous in all of Europe as their ancestors the Proto Finns, migrated to northern Norway from Siberia Asia during the Last Ice Age X thousands of years ago when there was no modern Norwegian/Swedish state, country, culture language or society as well as people which didn’t exist until the end of Danish and Swedish rule. Therefore the Sámi is not Germanic nor Norwegian or Swedish. They weren’t the 1st people, as they mixed with the 1st Europeans from the Middle East: Western Hunter Gatherers with brown skin and blue eyes, but because they didn’t intermix with later incoming populations or immigrants: Anatolian farmers, Yamnaya, Germanic farmers aka Norse, they are therefore indigenous. Their cousins the Finns and Estonians did intermix, and they themselves are the result of Southern Sámi tribes mixing with these incoming populations as well as Swedes and Slavs in modern times. Of course Norwegians and Swedes would move to claim otherwise due to racism and an imperialistic mindset as Sápmi was colonized by Norway and Sweden. Still is. Just like America is still colonized, and Hawai’i Nei is still illegally annexed by the US government. Everything has already been proven by DNA, linguistic and archaeological evidence, BUT many Norwegians refuse this as well as spread fake news and propaganda to change the narrative in their favor due to land claims. Also John is one of our biggest Sámi singers, Southern, from Sweden, and he’s actually Native American and was adopted from South America. Suicide is a huge societal problem amongst all indigenous cultures that experienced colonization and religious brainwashing. Especially in America is this a huge issue where kids kill themselves everyday. What happens when your land, culture, traditions, language, identity and way of life was basically destroyed and taken from you. You got no reason to live which is it what the occupant government wants. The Sámi didn’t experience the genocide, but historic generational trauma non a less by being colonized, kids taken away and put in residential schools forced to speak Norwegian. The different Sámi languages are all endangered some extinct. Their land taken. Now the encroachment from settlers, and the government fighting against mining, deforestation and wind mill parks on indigenous Sámi land!
