@aes0p89510 ай бұрын
@@mcmcmcm6520 Bernie was and is great, and I supported him, but his campaigns were flawed. There were too many fast and loose factoids, exaggerated rhetoric, and questionable allies for a lot of ppl. Also my fellow Berners were pretty obnoxious against perceived foes. Personally I voted for him, but I understand why he lost now.
@susanwilliams239210 ай бұрын
@@aes0p895 Its so interesting (and often horrifying) watching from overseas. And interesting to see that from close up, and a distance, the reasons look different, but are also probably the same at heart. Of course there are differences, but your political range in the USA seems skewed further to the right than ours here in New Zealand. We have more parties, so each party is a smaller slice of the pie. The majority, middle of the road to centreist Democrats in the USA would be in about the same place as our centre right National party, while our centre left very moderate middle of the road Labour party is about where bernie was. Our far right party would be relatively moderate by republican standards, and our far left party would be arrested for communism (they're not, their sorta socialism-light, but mainly they just want suitable housing, enough money for food and other necessaries for beneficiaries, indigenous rights, dental care, and climate change mitigation, that kinda 'radical' thing of 'what if we could all stay alive') - So, watching from here, with the info that filters through international media, it honestly seems like Bernie didn't stand a chance. Where he was, compared to our politics, was moderate left. But compared to yours was very far left, and the world has been leaning steadily further right in most places for a while, the whole spectrum drifting further to the right, but staying in balance relative to each other. I knew it would take a big swing, to the right or the left, for either Bernie or Trump, and there was no way the USA was swinging left, and I think the nail in the coffin was the single non-transferable vote at the end of the presidential race, so in the primary people were often voting for who they thought could win, not who they wanted. Wheras if they had a single transferable vote, you could rank the order you wanted on the final balet without splitting the vote (we have a different system again), if they did that, then everyone who wanted to vote for Bernie in the final presidential election could, with Hilary (or whoever) as a second choice, if it became obvious Bernie was losing, he would be eliminated from the race and if those votes had a second choice, they would be counted towards their second choice, and so on, meaning that even if a republican won democrats could have a say on which republican if they wanted by just continuing to list how their vote should be transfered. Oh and of course, go popular majority. It would be a start. But without those things The unlikelyness of a swing to the left, plus the fact that no one would vote for a candidate they didn't think could win, seemed to seal his fate from this vantage point. Interesting that close up you could see the nuances and the patterns and cracks that led to that same result
@aes0p89510 ай бұрын
@@susanwilliams2392 I agree with pretty much everything you said. In particular the lack of ranked choice voting combined with winner-take-all is I think the main culprit, at least as far as political mechanisms. I would counter by saying we'd have a lot more openly fascistic politics, except it hardly can get more fascistic than certain limited members of MAGA already are.

Seeing Tucker being amazed by carts that need coins is just hilarious. Here in Germany, they have been the norm for about 40 years :) But hey, Tucker is easily impressed.

I find criticism against Biden personally offensive. This vitriol to Tucker truly heals me. You have redeemed yourself, Jon Stewart

Desi Lydic is so awesome! She artfully focuses our view on various current events with a scholarly razor sharp edge, and brings comedy spiked with the highest level of journalist acumen that the world has ever seen. A truly creative genius that takes the amalgamation of comedy and journalism to a level that is unprecedented. A witty voice of reason in a sea of madness!

It is so sad that we needed Jon Stewart to come back to a COMEDY SHOW so we can get real objective news! The piece about “MODERATE REPUBLICANS” is something that the msm completely ignores. These are the objective points that actual news outlets should be focusing on.

I completely love that Jon Stewart is guest hosting The Daily Show, but i can't understand how Comedy Central hasn't tapped Desi, Jordan, or Roy as the permanent host 🤷♂️
