Jonah Hex isn't very good. Despite an incredible cast it does absolutely nothing else right which makes it perfect for the DC Graveyard. Josh Brolin, Megan Fox, Michael Fassbender and John Malkovich could not save this from bombing both critically and commercially because...well yeah it's just not very good or interesting or fun or anything. Thanks for watching!

I feel like someone was trying really hard to cash in on a Comic license by trying to make a Pirates of the Caribbean "supernatural history" style action adventure and just fumbled the ball at every step. Which is a damn shame because I tend to enjoy a lot of Weird West stories.

I was actually invited onto the set since I have a Jonah Hex blog (Matching Dragoons, shameless plug). The Netherworld fight was the original ending, I believe. There was a LOT more film that was shot with Mike Shannon along with a big scene in a New Orleans graveyard. I don’t know why so much was cut. Talking to folks on set, the makeup guy talked about using a branding iron on a pork roast for research on how yo make the scar, almost everyone had fake rotting teeth prosthetics, and this movie ALMOST made the list for Best Makeup Oscar. The movie is terrible because of the supernatural stuff and inverting the characters motivations (Turnbull wanted revenge on Hex in the comics). The books have so much good content that they ignored.
@Getwright-
@Getwright- 2 жыл бұрын
I did notice and like the teeth thing. I also like how tough they made hex in this, he takes a lot of punishment (double barrel shotgun to the chest) i thought they combined a lot of the classic DC stuff, the HEX comic stuff(the hightech weapons) , and the vertigo stuff (Which is more supernatural ) but maybe that was too much for one movie

Hex's origin story is Dances With Wolves, but the chieftain's bio son resents the white guy for being better than him in every way, so he challenges him to a religious honor duel and sabotages his equipment, leading to Hex's exile and his face being branded. The character has always been a guy that supernatural stuff happens to, not that does supernatural stuff. He's literally just a decent gunman who has to deal with ghosts, demons, and getting thrown through time like Samurai Jack. Like, if in the next Justice League movie they're having a climactic battle on Apokolips, he could just be in the background capping parademons with a space gun while riding a robot horse, with several of the Female Furies draped on him like a Frank Frazetta painting, with no explanation or acknowledgement whatsoever... that would be the truest depiction of the character EVER.

I watched this movie once when it was passing on TV, I confess that the only things I remember was the bird coming out of the mouth, Josh Brolin and the prothestics.

Hex also appeared in an episode of Batman the animated series where he fights the son of Ra's Al Ghul. The episode "Showdown" is also the final acting performance of Elizabeth Montgomery aka Samantha from Bewitched.

Also fun fact Matt LeBlanc, of Joey fame, has a producer credit on this movie. Apparently he had a movie production company that he had barely anything to do with and had no idea the movie was being made, but they slapped his name on it.

The CW version was awesome. But I remember liking the Josh Broccoli version when I watched it way back. I was surprised to learn that it flopped so hard.

This reminds me, I must get round to watching Gallowwalkers, the Wesley Snipes Morricone-crossed-with-2000AD zombie Western that totally flopped. I saw the second half of it years ago on TV and actually thought it was a lot of fun, so I ordered the DVD. Never watched it though. I think I'm afraid it might have been bad after all.

I always assumed they were planning a R rating, but had to cut most of the movie to get it to PG-13

Hayward implied in interviews that they weren't concerned with ratings when shooting, but the closer the movie got to release, the more obvious it became that, while he wasn't concerned, the studio was. I think that may've also led to the flick getting so chopped up.

I think making JH have magical powers was a result of a kind of Mandella effect. I had always thought that he was a supernatural character until I actually read the comics. I think this might be because he appeared in a title called Weird Westerns

"The Losers" is almost a good movie. Its a great cast, decent script and decent story. The problem is it is about Mercenaries with bloodless headshots and fake swear words. "The Losers" would have been amazing if they went full John Wick with the blood and swearing. When you watch it, it was clearly supposed to be Rated-R but was made PG-13 in the board room.
