Had my match as well Tuesday, frozen over with no ice breaker so had to borrow friends but could only reach about 10 meters out. Lots of small silvers for me but where the ice was missing the others caught a few carp which put my decent bag of silvers in the shade. At least us old gits turned up for the match. Still enjoyed myself, well wrapped up and nice flask of hot chocolate kept me happy for the day. Thank you for posting. Made me think about a longer ice breaker with chain.

Wow that takes me back. We used to fish a drain where we had to sit freezing, twiddling our thumbs, until the pumping station fired up. When it had pumped a few inches from under the ice the whole lot would collapse, break up and float down like a scene from the Arctic. Easiest fishing of the year when we could finally cast, because it seemed every bream in the drain was always in the same 100 yard stretch (which is why we were there when it was still frozen over!)

Hey Jon watching all these films in prep for 1st match on Sunday,what line diameter do you use? 0.12 main to 0.09 hook to an 18 f1 maggot is what I am making up with 4x10 ,4x12 and 4x14 f1 Maggot floats ,you think thats ok?
@JonArthur

Thats totally fine, but I personally prefer (a true) 0.14 for winter commercials as its more durable and less tangle prone and less likely to lose the entire rig if a carp does you

@sillybait1329
@sillybait1329 3 жыл бұрын
Another great video and match, well done Jon, thats a neat trick with the bottles Iv'e never seen that before, I did notice you were not using your MTX4 today was that because of the extra strength with moving ice ? and what you mentioned about them kiting off under the ice is my worst fear I ususally end up dipping the pole under the water but it can be hazardous with water freezing in the pole, do you treat your elastic with anything or just keep checking it constantly?
@JonArthur
@JonArthur 3 жыл бұрын
We thankfully don't tend to get many days where the elastic is freezing while we fish, or ice holes refreezing back over. Best advice is to use old Slik elastic rather than hollows in extra cold water as hollows don't work correctly. Yep used the MTX2 as I might be pushing ice about etc.

Not a lot stealthy when it comes to ice breaking, but a key a lot of people overlook is to break yours first then let your peg settle while everyone else does there's. Hopefully they'll then be pushed back into your peg! ;-)
