First, best "camper" I owned was a 1966 Falcon wagon 289 AT, AC, with magicgate. Rear seats flat with a yard lounge pad, rear seats down flat =7 foot, 2 people easy. Tailgate down was the kitchen and dinner table, aluminum lawn chairs for seats. Camped all over the Sierra all type of weather, all types of roads. Never should have sold it.

You nailed it my friend. Today there’s such a trend to over spend and over compensate we lose focus of the main objective. Adventures. This trend is also scaring away many people wanting to get out but can’t afford all these must have luxuries. By the way, that topper fits your truck and personality perfectly. Keep it up and stay safe!

I keep getting stuck on what kind of camper I want. I keep coming back to my late dad's 2001 chevy silverado with 50k miles on it. Just a camper shell. It is simple. I can have a piece of him with me everywhere I go.
@josephdover19826 күн бұрын
Then why are you getting stuck? A Chevy with 50k miles on it means it's not ready to roll over and quit on you. Or you could be like this guy and just piss money into the wind changing vehicles and "rigs" every 4 months.
@samhklm28 күн бұрын
The craft and spirit you put into each video is amazing. I have been watching for years now and think you are a genius at this - not sure why you are not at 500 K subs (at the least) at this point.

Because he's already had half a dozen set ups and trucks just since I first spotted him maybe 2 years ago. He changes "rigs" like a dollar bill changes hands.

Glad to see you posting again and really appreciate your current insight. It's not what you have, it's what you do with it! I own a few vehicles, which include a early Ford 7.3 4x4, a super basic 4cyl tacoma, and a couple more. They all have their uses. My little 2.7 Tacoma isn't perfect at any one task, but is darn good at a lot of things I want it to do! Over the years, that type of thinking has "thinned my herd" into what works for me. I'm happy with my current stable. The whole "overland" thing, has quite honestly started to annoy me. I'm in my 60's, and was born in the 60's. We called it truck camping / jeep camping / car camping.(fill in the blank)..? We didn't need a fancy title, nor a ton of overpriced equipment. Folks today think they need all this stuff on an already overpriced / overqualified vehicle, to go camping, or just adventuring, on forest service / BLM land. Hmm..? Some of my funnest / and funniest memories, are from when me and my buddies were dead ass broke / or just barely getting by, camping in the local backcounrty / or eastern sierra's, on the ground, in tents, or in the backs of our old 60's / 70's trucks. It makes me happy to see younger folks get back to the basics!!

Jonathan, great to see you back to your roots I camp out of my Silverado with a Disco bed that breaks down into a bag. The outside has a fold out shower/bathroom on driver side. Carry a LT 270* awning on the right side. This allows me to place a table with 2 legs that fits onto the rear tire and I can set up my stove to cook or eat a meal under the awning. Also there is a 54" x 34" x 1/2" smooth sealed plywood board with 2 hiking poles for legs that holds 3 Disco bags full of cooking/kitchen/ fire making equipment/utensils/food. It is used to prepare meals or cook on my various cooking stoves (2 burner Coleman, single butane and back packing propane stove). I also carry a charcoal stainless foldable grill big enough to cook four 1/4 lb. burgers or 8 hot dogs etc. I am sure you are familiar with all this and more. I got some of my ideas from Maverick and Crazy Quady during the pandemic. I also do river rescue and river guiding. So my kayaks go onto a Hullivator above the driver side cab and a 14' canoe above the passenger side length of the truck. Plus , for power a 1000W Jackery and a 200w suit case that goes above on the Hullivator to help power a 42L Iceco frig/freezer. when I camp. Keep having fun adventures with you truck and dog. It makes great content. Safety Fast bro.
