All these comments are hilarious. In a day and age where you can see every vanlife/camping KZbinr make more and more money with ad placements, Amazon storefronts and crazy rigs and gadgets that make it harder and harder to relate to, you sir have in a way reverted back to the rawness and realness that I relate to and love. Simple raw camping, sketchy questionable gear an adventure. All these tech nerds just want to see eye candy from the computer chair that they haven't left in over a year. I appreciate you, do what makes you happy

I tried sleeping in my car while it was raining and it was REALLY hard. It’s not just the sound of the rain coming down on the roof, but the humidity inside starts to make you feel wet and cold to the bone. This guy is tough. I couldn’t do what he did in his truck camper!!
@pattin40157 сағат бұрын
Yeah, I imagine there's a lot even behind the scenes which makes what Jonathan shows as being 'scratching the surface'... so cold, so wet, etc. I saw someone with a dehumidifier emptying out probably 2 cups of water per night in an RV recently.

Jonathan, pull it out like you did then before you extend the legs, go to the center and push up on that center till it clicks, with the tarp on the frame, your done... but yes the frames are more delicate than you might think. Good luck if you get another. One more edit... they don't hold up well to wind... even if you tie them down... calm wind days only... :)

I set up a 10' canopy on a camping trip last year, and upon an almost insurmountable difficulty taking it down, I drove straight to goodwill and threw it away (donated it). Bought a moon shade for the van. Though now I'm thinking of buying a full roof rack just so I can mount a deployable awning. I don't want to spend 10 minutes out in the rain to set it up, and also to take it down.

Yum... Spaghetti aglio e olio is one of my go to meals when I just want something quick. I usually top with cracked black pepper instead of red chili flakes though. 😋 But yes, I have the cheap canopy as well. The last thing you do us extend the legs. I'm a 55 year old lady and set it up myself. It gets easier after the canopy stretches out a few times. It does help if you secure one corner while extending it apart. Then the key is to push up each "ceiling" corner, like an umbrella, until it clicks. Once you get two opposite corners done, the canopy is extended and the other two are easier. Enjoy the holidays Jonathan. We appreciate your resiliency and the views you share are always enjoyable. 😊

I must admit I think you're terrific and I love watching your videos you pick beautiful spots and you're good at photography. HOWEVER, I cannot believe you have exchanged all this difficulty and excessive costs to accommodate comfort when you had the best rig ever. What you currently have is way too complicated, and it doesn't look comfortable.

I’m on my 3rd ozark ez up. I find it easier to setup by myself than with help from someone else. The trick to opening it up and closing it down is to lift three corners of the ground and have one on the ground when pulling or pushing. This needs to be done without the legs extended.

I recently bought an aquaquest defender tarp to replace my 270 awning. The 270 didn’t work well for wind and rain. The tarp is very adaptable, and I use my diesel heater to make a nice warm and dry out space when I’m camping. I’m from the portland area and camp in the coastal range a lot.

Dismantle the tent frame. Save the corner poles. You will see that they can be used for a future setup. The proper way to raise the pop up: Keep the legs at lowest height. Walk each corner out one by one, as far as possible without forcing. Set the fabic canopy on. When it it almost fully expanded out, move to the center, and push up the center piece. The corners will move further out. Then move to each corner and slide the corner connection up to set the pin in place. These pop ups are not good in rain. Because the sides do not streach tight, water will pool on each side. Eventually, each side will have it's own long pond that you need to push up from undern to empty. The slant back camper shell like yours are poor in the rain as you have learned. Best method is a simple heavy duty silver poly tarp, 8×10 harbor freight. Get 4, 3 to 4 foot sections of 1 inch diameter white plastic pipe, 2 slip×slip unions. Then you will have 2, 6 or 8 foot poles. Self tapping sheet metal screws, with area washers. Attach tarp to pole at each tarp eyelet. Tie one pole to the roof rack, across the rear. The other pole, use two of the pop up poles each end tied. Stake out guy lines each corner. Have one corner lower to aid water run off. To take down, separate both pvc poles at the union, fold the tarp at the union, roll up, now you have 4 foot long rolled up tarp. And the popup poles are about 4 foot long. A decent easy reusable setup.

I once saw some guy who just brought a regular tarp during a camp trip. he tied it off at one end, dragged it over the roof and attached it to a tree. he was a lot more dry than me!

Unless I missed something I think you had that canopy going - all you had to do was push up on the upside down T shaped center leg underneath and it will snap the roof up and lock it into place
@JonathanYentch2 күн бұрын
On a traditional EZ up canopy this is true, but sadly on this cheaper Walmart design, when you press the center support up without pulling out the corner legs - which is very tricky by yourself - the legs fold in towards the center.
@TheRealChappy2 күн бұрын
You can lift the entire canopy off the ground by the center handle and kind of bouncing it. Also don't extend the legs very much when setting it up until it is fully deployed. I have the exact same canopy. It's possible, slow and frustrating alone, but possible
