In this episode, I visit Yellowstone National Park only this time, I didn't get the typical Yellowstone experience. The reason being that it dumped snow for most of the time I was there! It was incredibly beautiful and I'm glad to have gotten to experience that.
Sit back, grab a beer, grab a coffee & enjoy!

The CO detector may be seeing condensation. The CO detector may not be the BS EN50291-2 model for campers. If it is a -1 model, it is for homes. The CO detector may be mounted in a corner (more condensation or hindered airflow). The CO detector may be giving a low battery beep, or a malfunction alarm, especially if it has been cold or using the battery that came with the unit, so check the directions for the beep that you are hearing.

I worked for Yellowstone National 🏞️ Park and when it snows lightly be very careful it honestly can turn into an extremely dangerous situation quickly. You really need to be more winter ❄️🥶 prepared for safety reasons. Also always have 2 cans of bear spray and carry one on you when your sight seeing, grizzlies 🐻 look big and slow, but they are lightening fast, can even out run a horse. You were seeing Ravens which are much larger then crows and usually don't make a caw sound similar to crows. Your videos are really great, keep doing them and everything looks so beautiful, THANKS 🙏 for taking us along🐻🐾🐾🥶

Propane doesn’t emit CO2 until it is burned. Raw propane doesn’t have a smell, that’s why they add the smell to it, so it can be detected if you have a leak. Get the wiring fixed in the camper and use the heater that’s built in, it’s way safer and cheaper to run than that buddy heater. Great video, i miss that area.

I hope you're not intending to use the Buddy heater while sleeping and here's why. It is a low-pressure unit requiring an integrated regulator. Those one pound propane bottles deliver high pressure propane, around 250 PSI. Campstoves, lanterns, and the Buddy heaters utilize low-pressure propane at around 15 PSI. I, personally, prefer bulk tanks and hose setup but definitely use the fuel filter they make to prevent the oils leaching from the hose to gum up the Low Oxygen Shutoff and prevent the heater to light. Learned the hard way on this as well. If and when those regulators fail, a fire could ensue. I've seen it happen twice but was able to quickly extinguish them.
@danielschear556
@danielschear556 Жыл бұрын
Also "the Buddy heater" works far less efficiently at higher elevations such as in Yellowstone. This probably accounts for the CO alarm sounding.
@williamfuller2389
@williamfuller2389 Жыл бұрын
@@danielschear556 According to their website, absent from any messaging on their product packaging, is a notification that the heater is not for use above 7000 ft. It's Low Oxygen sensor system would hinder it's ability to operate in such low oxygen environment. Personally, I've been able to use it in areas slightly above that threshold.

If you're going to live on the road, CARRY CHAINS! I got stuck in a snowstorm ( I slept in my van on the side of the road) just outside of Yellowstone in early May, 1980. 18:35 Check the battery. CO doesn't form from a gas leak, just gas combustion. ... As others said, check the manual. Usually CO detectors make a real ruckus when they go off, so if you're dozing off (b/c CO makes you sleepy) it can wake you. ... Also, most batteries don't function as good as normal when temperature is below freezing.

You're in my backyard right now! I was born and raised up there. I lived in a small town just south of the park called Jackson. Everybody calls it Jackson Hole but that's not actually the name of the town, that's the name of the valley that the town sits in. When we were kids and we told our parents we were going to the park we didn't mean the city park and they knew they wouldn't see us for a couple of days! My favorite time of year was winter. We built snow caves up by the hot springs and stay for a couple of days at least once a month. That was such a blast! I'm an old old lady now can't hardly make it out to the mailbox. I appreciate this video so much it's like going home for a minute. 🥰🤗

This is a lovely camper, and its surprisingly spacious inside while compact outside. Very nice and cozy. Those are not crows, but ravens. The country cousin of the city crow. Crows depend on humans, but ravens do not. The photography was splendid. I really enjoyed seeing Yellowstone in November. So deathly still and crystalline. Although you have no crowds in the off season, it is dangerous to have no one around, no ranger that knows you are in there, no campground, all in the dead of winter. Extreme weather can make a lot of things go wrong. Trust nothing to work. If you get stuck, you can die easily. I would not do what you are doing this late in the year. Not for Yellowstone. It can go from pleasant to very scary in a few hours. Do you have traction boards for your wheels if you get snowed in? Some tips for your safety: Don't hit a frozen window unless you want to shatter the glass. Propane heater on the floor next to a seat cushion? Propane heat will create a lot of moisture inside the cabin during the night, as it burns. Also CO2. You need a diesel heater - dry and no CO2. This is very unsafe. Propane creates CO2 which is why your detector went off. Good test that it works! Best to have more than one heater in these snowed in places. Get a diesel heater, keep the Buddy propane heater, and get also a Butane heater called Kavua - small and mighty. Buy butane cans at Asian stores. Your windows are letting in a lot of cold air through the glass pane. You need to make magnetic insulated window covers with Thinsulate, Reflectix, and quilted material. Rubber backed curtains on top of that. They sell little insulated pillows for your hatch as well at Camping World. Love your curtain fabric, by the way! To tenderize meat, get papain extract and rub on it. Tenderize with a mallet. Wait half hour then cook. Cook your aromatic herbs in olive oil in pan first, then add crushed garlic and some onions to caramelize, then steak. I make my own steak rub with Creole (like Cajun but richer) spices, a bit of sea salt. This will be so good on any meat, fish, steak, pork chop, calamari. Rub, sear, done. Eat your veggies!!!! Veggies are the cornerstone of good health. Make a fresh salad, always good. Good recipe for travel is to slow cook a medley of veggies in season - cabbage, bok choy, mushrooms, carrots, swiss chard, zucchini, eggplant, etc. Throw them all in a pot chopped up, add garlic, onion, Herbes de Provence or any spices and simmer into a nice warm stew. Serve with meat. You are always guaranteed a warm veggie stew or soup on your travels. Do not just eat meat this is not healthy. Did you forget the levelers under your wheels? Oh no!!

4 beeps means the detector is sensing CO or a false trigger from a cleaner, air freshener or possibly some other gas (yes, it can be triggered by flatulence. Human or animal.) If your detectors (smoke, CO and LP) are not new, installed by you, check the date codes on the back of each device. The sensors have a useable/operable lifespan. Replace LP detector every 5-7 years. Replace smoke detector every 7-10 years depending on manufacturer. Replace CO detector every 5-7 years depending on manufacturer. Check batteries each month. CO/Smoke detector) Low battery will sometimes trigger the alarm. Sometimes a low house battery will trigger an LP detector. Cleaners and air freshener vapor can trigger these alarms. Awesome video btw. Great videography and music selection. 👍🏻

Enjoy Yellowstone, but if you've got the time, explore the other parts of Wyoming as well as it's a beautiful state. Teton and Wind River National Parks are pretty amazing.

I would go buy a new CM alarm...they are not the highest quality.......a CM detector will not work against a leaking propane tank. Cheers Jonathan, loved this vlog!

Dang, I was scared for you when you captured the bear in the video. You said some good things about respecting your surroundings. Liking the content. Yellowstone in the snow. Safe travels.

Great videos as usual with you. Side note Buddy heaters are super dangerous only use to take the edge off

Your cooking at a higher altitude.... and your propane was probably cold.... thus you dont get a great flame....

i think the mega crows were actually ravens.. dude, you need the ap "Seek" - it identifies all manor of flora and fauna. also keeps track of all the things you "seek" so you always know what you saw and where. a SUPER cool ap!

I missed somewhere why you don’t use the furnace. It vents outside so it’s a million times safer than a buddy heater. Those heaters eat up a lot of oxygen inside a small enclosed area quickly. I get using it to get warm, but your roof vent should be open if you use it

You need a smaller pan.. 7 in aluminum would work so much better than cast iron you just cut the steak in half. And what no form of potatoes??? Plug in your 12 volt coffee maker and in 7 minutes you got all the hot water you need for instant mashed potatoes!!!!

Keep a bottle of alcohol and go outside and squirt around your track next time that way you don’t break your window trying to open when its frozen! Or a spray bottle with windshield washer fluid!

Check for a possible gas leak. It's too much of a coincidence that your pan is getting less hot than you're used to and your monoxide alarm is going off for the first time. Most gas tubes are made of rubber and rubber doesn't deal well with big changes in temperature.

You'd stop forgetting to bring things if you took the time to make a list, it's a tiresome reoccurring theme in your videos. You'd save money, produce better videos, and your meals would also be more edible.

Turn your pan by quarter turns every 2 minutes or so to heat it evenly. Cast iron will heat soak but if not turned, it will be spotty for heat.

Those " crows " are Ravens, which are approximately the size of a large hawk, if that means anything to you.

Enjoyed your video very much! Someone else probably pointed this out but in the beginning, when you pulled through the closed ranger station (at 1:14) as you were talking to the camera, I think there was a sign that said - Roads Closed..lol. Glad you didn't see it and took us on an adventure anyway!

There are a couple of good coffee and bakery places in West Yellowstone. One is in the bookstore on the main drag. The other is down the street also on the main drag, which I think is the Madison street or guest or?

It's a possibility the CO detector is old. Check the date.. should have a sticker on there with the date. they usually last like 5 to 7 years. Might need to replace it.
