Postscript - there is no need to save different keyboard profiles for different aeroplanes - I’m confusing myself :) The keyboard profile will just control which keys you are using to save and load custom views.

@jonbeckett I can't toggle between the character's 1st and 3rd person view even though I have it activated. Can you share what's the name of the functionality so I can bind it myself? thanks. EDIT: It's "cockpit/external view mode"

I just want to mention it. The best approach is set the base profile keyboard first for all aircrafts no matter what. Set things like camera control, reset view, zoom etc. to the same keys to control things which are in every aircraft and then build on top of this base profile. I dont have the MSFS2024 yet, but first thing what I will do when I will buy it is to change the keys to the default MSFS2020 keys, because I remember that very well after so long (f - reset view, ctrl f10 save cockpit view, ins/del drone/outside camera, v - vfr map, c - checklists, arrows - camera movement in the cockpit etc).

This doesn't seem to be true for me. I set up number keys as per this video but it only works in the Cesna that I set it in, no other aircraft.

You Jonathan are the "only" one I support and purchased anything on line from. I am in Ontario, Canada. I'm 60 years old, that is to say, I am grasping things slower than the younger generation. I have enjoyed every one of your videos and explanations. You are calm. concise. and direct. but most importantly you are not rushing trough your explanations. So I can follow along and take notes in a note pad I keep close to my computer. I want to "Thank You" for this. I will continue to support you and buy from you. Brilliant guide. Thanks for not making assumptions about others' knowledge or experience! Among things I learned: CTL-C to go between walkaround mode and cockpit view, and Backspace to go from first- to third-person view.

Jonathon be aware there is a significant bug in the custom cameras whereby if you load another aircraft in the same session and try to configure it’s custom views, it will totally screw up the custom views of the first aircraft. However if you exit the sim and restart the sim, the saved views will be there. So set up one aircraft’s custom views, then exit the sim and then restart the sim to set up your next aircraft. Search on the forums for this.

Coming from FSX many years ago, I was overwhelmed by all the mappings in FS2024. This is a great video how to set up views; clearly explained. I hope in future you can also do a video on some of the other camera settings (Smart camera, and fixed camera).

Also you can map your custom views to an 8 position hat switch on your joystick or throttle and you can access them easier than the keyboard ... they also save in the specific aircraft general controls profile rather than setting up multiple keyboard profiles ... just another option :-)

Good tutorial. With MSFS 2020, I used the Numpad to recall saved views - *without* Shift/Ctrl/Alt. Easier than a two-fingered dance! To save views, it was Ctrl + Numpad X etc. I just had to unbind some default mapping such as keyboard controls for pitch/yaw/roll that I never used anyway... :)

Good stuff - thank you again. Not really views related, but possibly helpful for others to know.... SHIFT Z toggles Slew mode. Shift V toggles Camera mode. Ctrl C gets your avatar to crouch.

Jonathan thank you for this video! I find all your videos very helpful. You seem to produce them so quickly I wonder when you find time to eat or sleep. One thing I'm having difficulty with is panning with the mouse ... When I click either the left or right button on the sim screen, it goes into panning mode and the view moves about as I move the mouse. The only way I can get out of this mode is by moving the pointer to another screen and clicking. In FS 2020 I can simply click again with the right mouse button to switch in and out of panning mode. I am using the default FS 2024 controller settings for the mouse and keyboard. Any ideas on how to fix this? I'd like to be able to walk the avatar up to a click spot on the plane using panning mode and then switch panning mode off so I can click the wheel chalks, ailerons, etc. Thanks!

I think I found the answer ... I have to switch from 3rd person view back to 1st person view to stop mouse panning.

In the settings of the simulator, make sure the control scheme is "Legacy".

Jonathan, great video. Can a 'drone camera' view to be stored as a Custom View? It seems only cockpit views (from inside the plane) can be stored as Custom views 0-9. For example, if I want a wing view from 'outside' of the plane set using the drone camera, it seems it doesn't get stored in Custom views. Any thoughts?

You can still use the Shift+NUMBERS for views such as EFB but how can you change the key? for example if you want Shift+3 for EFB

Isnt that unecessary missleading with MSFS2020 controls? Is it possible to have it as it was in MSFS? 2020 for example changing outside/drone with ins/del key, moving in the cockpit (arrows), reseting view "f", moving drone camera (numpad + "r" and "f", F5 for slowing down, F6 speeding up etc.? I'm pretty used to them. I would rather set it the same way and only learn the new things which in this case is the 3d/1st person view and toggling on/off walk around mode.

I was trying to move around and my control was getting away from me. Kept spinning around and around. Also I can’t believe they changed all the controls. I’m so used to the 2020 controls but if I go to 2020 controls profile, I lose 2024 specific controls such as walk around mode etc

Hello Jonathan, I follow your videos, however this one is not working for me. The shift + number does work, but DOES not stay put, as soon as I let go, it will not stay on that particular view. Very frustrating, I wonder why MSFS 2024 is so much more complicated...everything works perfectly well on 2020. Does yours also let go when you release the Shift button?

This is helpful, but SHIFT - ARROW KEYS doesn't move my camera in the cockpit. It only pans the camera.

How can you free look in cockpit view? Right mouse hold? I used to do it that way in MSFS2020 but in MSFS2024 it doesn't work. Holding right mouse button and moving the mouse does nothing.

Hi Guy's. Please help! I have a weird bug with my MSFS 2024 set up in that walkaround mode (and drone mode) simply doesn't work. I am unable to move using AWSD or any other keys. What am I doing wrong ? The key bindings just don't work. Can anyone point me in the right direction (literally).

pfff.. What i'm looking for are the designated input binds for each of these controls, not what ms decided to select the defaults to , i don't use their inho defaults,..and i'm finding it beyond ridiculous to find the bind that corresponds to horizontal latteral movement by nature people want different actual bindings for specific controls..not msfs imho awfull defaults.........but anyway i guess you tried. so thx. for one thing i want single key presses for cockpit movement....p btw the change to reenter the aircraft does not always work..

Sorry to hear your having problems. I am using Xbox X and have keyboard and mouse aswell. It took me a while to load but eventually loaded. Still a few bugs and freezes. Wish you the best

I use the Velocity yoke on my Xbox series X in MSFS 2020 and for convenience was have been using a mouse for controlling views so that I could continue to keep at least one hand on the yoke. However, in MSFS 2024 the assigned views while using the mouse generally do not work correctly. I understand the process for changing settings as you have described, however I find it incredibly difficult to translate these settings to the mouse as it is extremely sensitive to each movement that is made. Any suggestions?

I believe you can change the sensitivity of each controller and the dead zone. That would also include for the mouse.

I have a problem, i assigned some other function to the backspace key and now even with the 3rd person view selected in the settings, backspace doesnt activate it and i cant find a setting in regards to bing a key for the 3rd person view. Anyone knows the solution?

Probably be best if you assign 3rd person view to other key. You can choose keys whatever you want.

@lopesdev Please refer to "Settings→Controls→Camera→Camera Mode Switchs". And then you'll find Cockpit/External View Mode, so please assign keys whatever you want.

Unfortunately it appears that things are not quite the same on XBox (often the case!). Firstly when you go to Controls/Advanced Options nothing is visible, so there is no opportunity to enable the third person view. I haven’t been able to find a way of seeing the avatar. Shift + C “Take control of character” does move you inside the plane, but Shift + Backspace key only toggles you to the external view from the cockpit view. Shift +X toggles you between the external and drone cameras. You cannot apparently move from the external first person view to external or drone views directly, you have to go via the cockpit view on XBox. I have also found a big problem with using the mouse to control the cameras as the speed is far too fast. Reducing the sensitivity to 0.5 made little difference. Not sure if these problems are going to be permanent features on XBox or are just some initial bugs?

Rather unfortunate because ATM changing the default camera view or saving custom views tend to break the default view of OTHER planes, it is a very nasty bug. You change a view in plane A or create a custom view and chances are your next plane default view will be outside of the plane or something like that.
