I didn't catch many pike this year compared to last, but of the few I did catch, most of them were on topwater and most of those went fully airborne on their initial strike on the frog. They just rocket up from their hide with no f's given. The crackheads of predator fish, always a thrill. Thanks for showcasing these very beautiful and fun invasive fish!

Pike are such an underrated fish to catch. Im a huge fan of fishing for them. Caught a 58" last year from the bank of lake erie on the canada side. Was an absolute amazing fight and fish.
@illmuskyhunter3313Ай бұрын
Hahahaha there's absolutely no shot you caught a 58 inch Pike or musky
@blingbling9341Ай бұрын
@illmuskyhunter3313 funny part is it's all on video and KZbin. Was 29lb6oz and 58" all shown on video and used a black and blue jackhammer caught at long point ontario. But it's ok you don't believe and try to discredit me, truly doesn't affected in amny way but living life with jealousy and hate isn't the best way to go about things. But whatever makes you happy.
@MaryBrownForFreedomАй бұрын
Pike are under rated for eating too! I rank it above walleye for freshwater fish to eat. Knowing how to clean it is key! I don't mind the Y bones and leave them n but it isn't hard to trim them out. But to many do not get all the slime off the fillets and that is why they say pike tastes bad! I fold the filet in half the long way and scrub it against itself under running water, flip and do the other side. Removes all the slime and gets a lot of blood out. Salt pepper, flour, pan fry... good eats!

What line type/size and leader do you recommend for these toothy beasts?
@pvegod1484Ай бұрын
Here in the U.K. and Europe we all use mono or flouro of 1mm diameter, usually crimped with barrel crimps with heavy duty clips. Anything less and you can get bit off on the hook set. I use 80 pound braid as my main line but mainly so I can straighten hooks out so I don’t lose my expensive lures

@MaryBrownForFreedomАй бұрын
Please don't do this, it injures and can blind them. Slide your fingers up under the gill plate to the jaw like Jon was doing. It makes them docile until the release, then get your fingers clear fast! Speaking form experience, one spazzed and bit me, still have that scar 50 years later!

can/do people eat pike?
@MaryBrownForFreedomАй бұрын
YES! Pike are very good eating but must be cleaned right! To many fail to wash the slime off the filet and that makes for a really fishy nasty flavor. Fold the filet in half the long way and scrub it against itself under running water. Flip over and repeat, then into a clean bowl or bag! Do not put it back on the cleaning board or it will get slimed again. Some cut the Y bones out... I know where they are and just pick them out while eating. Season some flour with salt and pepper to taste, heat some oil and butter in a skillet(about 1/2 inch deep). Flour the fish and straight into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown each side and the fish flakes apart. I have been know to eat a pound of pike cooked this way... it is better than walleye in my book!
