I almost started bawling when I heard the line “she was sleeping in your clothes, but now she’s gotta get to class”. It breaks my heart to see underage girls and boys being taken advantage of by people in power or just legal aged people that go after younger people cuz they’re “easier to manipulate”. The amount of friends I had being treated like this..

My interpretation is that there are different examples of power imbalance throughout the song. She starts out about a young relationship that destroyed a girl of school age, moves on to a personal experience, and then a situation in which someone was engaging with someone underage, only caring when they find out they’ve lost their power. I believe she’s trying to create dialogue about power imbalance as a whole, and trying to empower others through it.

If you’ve watched her movie, her ex boyfriend (named 7) met her when she was around 16-17, was much older than her, and was depicted as the “bad guy” who mentally abused her.
@soundslike1life3 жыл бұрын
The more I listen to this, the more it hits me. I'm a guy and I went through this, as an adult, just few years ago. A man few years older than me in fact abused his power. He completely wrecked me and my life. I'm still trying to recover from it. While this song is obviously about a relationship where the abused one is underage, this happens in relationships all the time, adult/adult relationships. Unfortunately it doesn't need to be an underage child for it to be this way. It can happen to anyone, at any age. All I can say is, if you can help it, don't let it happen to you. Easier said than done because most people will blind themselves out of loving someone, and that is all that the abuser needs to do the damage - and you only find out when you hit the bottom, and it's a long painful climb to get your power back.

Yes she’s talking about someone specific (Q, a rapper from LA, her ex), but even when she is, it’s usually more of a starting point artistically. My opinion the song isn’t about a relationship at all, it’s about the industry and it’s effect on a young artist. The lines “She was sleeping in your clothes, but now she’s gotta get to class” could represent how people have to change and maybe dress a certain way to appeal to a wider audience, but then this lifestyle is at the same time distracting from a normal way of growing as a human (the class/school part)
