Amazing that someone tracked down an old B that they had as a kid! Keep those projects rolling forward.

Ahh that looks nice. Interesting thing I learned. I have a AN which was configured as a AW that had a terrible looking pressed front frame so I changed the frame with a different one. You can change the front frames on the late styled A without messing with the motor, but you can’t do it with the late styled B. Not enough room to do it on the late Bs
@jonelsonster2 ай бұрын
Very interesting. I've replaced the frame on an A before because the old one was cracked. But I didn't know you could do it without disassembling the engine. Fortunate my engine was already torn apart at the time I replaced my frame.

Thanks for Sharing this, now I can say that I learned something today 😅😊

Me too. I learned a lot. I'm nearly 80 and living outside the US so my days of driving (I used to bale with a 60 in Colorado)or possibly owning/collecting JD 2 bangers are pretty much over, so I never miss a good two-cylinder video. Seeing how the narrow and wide front ends were built to interchange was very interesting as well.

I have sheared them 4 bolts of twice on a 52 G. Mowing hay on the prairie fell into badger hole and popped them bolts right off. Turned into an instant plow.

Those B’s are nice little tractors, I have a few of them myself, one being a factory BW.
@jonelsonster2 ай бұрын
The one we stole the front end off of was a factory BW. If we hadn't just rebuilt everything on this B, we would have restored that BW. But all we wanted was a wide front... So this is just a BW tribute 😄
@wemedeeres41052 ай бұрын
@ the one you stole it off was a little more rare of a tractor, the 42” rear tires technically makes that one a BWH

could we have a video of clutch work in different conditions? like road driving with a load... getting started from a stop. pulling a plow how to choose a gear etc. I'm sure it's a bunch of trial and knowing your tractor but hoping for some short cuts to putting my jd 820 to work.
@jonelsonster2 ай бұрын
I'm the next few weeks I'll working on the clutch on my A.

Dad have a 1950 John Deere G. You could mount a front cultivator on that tractor.
@jonelsonster2 ай бұрын
The G is a great tractor!

Did you guys repaint that front end with a spray can or did you use a spray gun? It looks great! I like the rim choice! By the way, tell dad he did a great job of getting some footage and explaining what he was doing.

That is rust-oleum rattle can John Deere green. I know there are some haters out there, but we like it. We clean the surface with "purple power" degreaser from Wal Mart and then use the spray can and have good results. It's not show room quality, however we use our tractors enough that dings and scratches in the paint are inevitable. The spray cans make touch up super simple.
@MusicandTractors2 ай бұрын
@@jonelsonsterI think it looks great and since you still use them as working tractors, makes perfect sense! I might have to try this process myself!
@jonelsonster2 ай бұрын
@@MusicandTractors if you use purple power, one word of caution...wear gloves. The stuff is water soluble, but after prolonged use, it will dry your hands out so badly that they'll crack and bleed for weeks! I think it's really similar to simple green cleaner I've heard other people talk about. Best of luck!

I am reasonably certain you have a 1948 John Deere B. It has a stamped steel frame in front and the enclosure for the flywheel is much larger than the1947 B had. The 1948 B s had a round rear cast axle housing like your's has. The 1949 B has a square rear axle housing as do the rest of the Bs up until they were discontinued in 1953 when they built the numbered series tractors. I had a1947 and it had a cast iron front frame and the seat did not have the battery box like your's has. the battery was in the hood cowling in front of the steering wheel.
@jonelsonster2 ай бұрын
It's actually a 1949...i misspoke when I said 47. Serial number is 235972.

John Deere used a Swartz wide front back then. I have a John Deere 70 with a swartz wide front. I've heard. I H C used the Swartz wide front also.

I know there are aftermarket front end kits out there but from my understanding the front end that we installed (and most wide front Deere tractors) are Deere specific and were made by Deere. All of the part numbers cast into the parts are John Deere.
