In this video series I diagnose a fuel supply problem on a 1967 Mustang. We use various methods to prime the fuel pump and diagnose a bad fuel line that was preventing fuel from supplying the carburetor.

Don't forget that tanks before the early '70s had a vented gas cap, so you might not get any results from blowing air back into the tank other than bubbles. Any pressure would just vent out the cap. Truck owners with dual tanks don't forget the soft lines at the mechanical crossover switch. I had a customer' F250 with a soft line at the switch that would suck air into the line butttt not leak any fuel out. Drove me crazy for several hours.

I had the same problem . . . had to replace the sending unit. Too much Junk in the metal tube on the sending unit, (it was solid full of trash and rust) it was easier to replace with a new unit. I actually replaced the entire fuel tank and sending unit, along with a new fuel pump as well. I was lucky, the local Mustang shop was having a yard sale. I was able to pick up a new tank and sending unit at a really low price. You will be fine if you only replace the sending unit and the small rubber hose connecting the sending unit to main line leading to the front of the car.

You can check line going to the pump. I blew my intake line and blew a bunch of junk. I also drained my tank and put in new strainer. Don't blow crap back into your tank so disconnect the line from the tank. 50 years can mean a lot junk in the system.

I knew a person with the same issue on a mustang like this they swapped brand new fuel pump new fuel lines and tank still no fuel,, I suggested just run a 6psi electric fuel pump and wire it to ignition,,got it wired up one turn of the key instant constant fuel to carb with the fuel pump being far from tank car started right up with a little shot of starter fluid still don’t know what the issue was but as good as the car ran I doubt they care

i think i have this going on with my 72 duster the car will sit and idle but as soon as you press on the gas it dies

Can you blow air into tank from the fuel line that you disconnect right off the carb ( after the pump ) ?

i have a '66 fastback. i don't think that fuel tank is capable of holding compressed air if you sent air back thru the fuel line into the fuel tank? good ideas tho.

midnight rider as long as the fuel cap is off it shouldn't be a problem, of course, as he mentioned you should be cautious not to over pressurize the line or tank. I doubt it would take much at all!

I have a fuel filter in the soft line between the tank and fuel pump…and the fuel pump to carb..is this normal
