Install a Tachometer Signal Wire on your Diesel Alternator

I'd recommend using some sort of polyurethane to keep the wire from rubbing, like window seal poly. The double insulation is ok, but given the sharp edge and vibration these motors can have why not just poly it in place as well? Just make sure if you do it dries before driving!

what signal does the wire put out ? i want to put a tach on my riding mower and it needs signal from a generator but it does not have that. does it jst send a 12v pulse every rotation of the crank ?

How does one regulate the signal from alternator. Using a tranmission control module that uses a 4l80e on a 12 valve cummins. TCM reading 7000 rpm at idle. Need something to convert it to proper specification.

Why did you not mention what part of alternator circuit that you connect that wire sir is it in the stator cool, rectifier diode, ic regulator, carbon brass what part sir

The tach i just got has some sort of a sensor and a large clamp that goes around the entire alternator. Does that sensor just pick up a current of some sort ? Seems kinda wierd.

so I have a 4bt Cummins swap and I am having trouble wiring alternator and the tach. I have a jk wrangler with an internal voltage regulator alternator which does not want to work and it sends like 17 volts to the battery. do you know if I can convert that jeep alternator with the internal regulator to the external regulator?

I understand the procedure that was depicted. But my situation is based on the square back dual field Chrysler alternator and external regulator for restoration purposes. The tachometer requires wiring to the crank sensor or alternator. At present my two options are, a different unit, or convert the one I have. I would appreciate any information you can offer.
