Living in Cornwall near the village of Manaccan its interesting to note that in 1791 British amateur mineralogist W. Gregor found a black sand deposit in a stream at Manaccan, he isolated a new metal that he named Manaccanite. In 1795 some 4 years later a German chemist M. H. Klaproth established that the mineral rutile is a natural oxide of the same metal, which he named Titanium. So original journey of element 22 started in Cornwall....cool. Great EDC reviews Jon and a few added to the list......Cheers

Another benefit of titanium is that it's not magnetic so if you have a magnetic connectors or other items then it doesn't interfere with them. Ali Express has a titanium version of the keysmart pocket clips which are even cheaper and work very well. I like peanut lighters and find it very amusing when people try and take the "p" out of me for it being so small and then I say "you don't have to use it if you don't want to", to which the answer is of course "no no... thank you..." I find it great because I very rarely use it so it doesn't need regular topping up but disappears and it's there when I (or someone else) needs it.

RFID/Card Cloning. This has happened to "me" twice. Once to my wife at Manchester Airport and a second time to myself at a local garden centre. The cards remained in our view at all times and seemed to have been used properly so how they were "cloned" (or whatever) I cannot say precisely. Fortunately the bank detected the subsequent fraudulent activity on both occasions and I suffered no financial loss just the inconvenience of having the credit card cancelled and replaced. Since then we both use RFID wallets/purses etc. to carry our cards and there has been no repitition. My advice - use RFID"kit" for what it costs.
@JonGadget2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback - that's really interesting to know 👍
@swe_nurse81212 жыл бұрын
It's unlikely that it was RFID cloned and then used as a cloned card due to the encryption inherent in credit/debit cards, while it's easy to pull data from a card that's similar to listening in on military radio communication, you can hear it all and capture all data but you need to be able to crack incredibly secure encryption to actually be able to get reliable information. Same with credit cards. Let's follow the money here, that's usually a decent way to end up with a likely explanation: There are two types of companies making/losing money with RFID cloning. The first one is the bank, which would lose massive amounts of money if it was a thing since they would have to reimburse customers. The second company type is one that makes money by selling RFID wallets. If a card can be cloned and the cloned card can be used banks would stand to lose a lot of money (millions, if not billions) every year. If a simple wallet could prevent this banks would require you to use a RFID blocking wallet. Meanwhile, RFID wallet manufacturers are earning millions claiming (or implying) that people are losing money to RFID attacks all the time. You'd think that the banks would be a lot more worried about RFID blocking if this was an attack that cost them money. They're not, because they trust their encryption system and know that this attack isn't feasible due to that. So if RFID cloning is a real threat, how come the companies with money to lose doesn't act on this? Meanwhile companies that sell the wallets have a vested interest in it. In 99.99 % of cases card information was stolen through an insecure internet purchase or a physical purchase with magnetic strip/chip/NFC and then used in either a physical store with an accomplice or at an internet store. Use a RFID blocking wallet if you feel safer doing so, it does no harm. Especially since most of them are good wallets even without the blocking. But don't do it out of fear and misattribution of something that happened to you.
@hengis732 жыл бұрын
@@swe_nurse8121 interesting stuff. I had a look around the Web and agree with the point about RFID cloning. However contactless fraud does seem to be a risk either from man in middle attacks and contactless skimmers. I do have an RFID wallet so probably fall into the "bought the fear" category. I do think contacts skimmers are a valid risk. Would be interested to hear your thoughts. Thank for with great vid Jon
@swe_nurse81212 жыл бұрын
@@hengis73 Yes, that is a bigger risk than RFID attacks. But a blocking wallet doesn't prevent that since you need to use it. Even then I'm not sure that it is too prevalent, we can go back to the bank/money argument for that as well even though statistics isn't available for obvious reasons. If banks were losing huge amounts of money from it they would make it more secure. Contactless skimming are also protected by the encryption incorporated in the cards. Even if it is technically possible it is A LOT cheaper and easier to just buy a few thousand credit card numbers from a collection. These are usually stolen from insecure transactions online.

Great video. Though why do so many tools have a bottle opener: hold the edge of the crown cap against anything hard edged ( careful with some table edges) and then slap down on your wrist, then drink. I was taught this at a boozy Bosnian barbeque. Take a Dremed diamond cone and use it on the inner part of a Victorinox bottle opener to make a skinner knife or a belt cutting push blade.

If the first knives shown are also available with a lock of some kind (liner lock, other), I would try and save up the money for one. They are amazing. Sometimes a design will strike me as wondrous. This is the case with these knives. Plus, I love Titanium. On a side note, while I grew up with slip joint pocket folders, once I found liner locks and other retention mechanisms for blades, it became a must-have rather than the slip joint. So many great items here Jon! I can attest the Rovyvon S3Ti is a spectacular flashlight. I carry one of several Auroras on my belt loop and the S3Ti goes into my backpack for when I really need grand visibility. I am adding that peanut lighter to my kit as soon as I am done typing this! How cool is that?!? You know I have an older Dango Pioneer (I believe) which is all stitched leather and it holds one of their small pens and a card style multi tool. It's been my favorite wallet to carry. I am not sure why they transitioned to metal frame wallets with all the added weight and bulk and I am curious about the use cases for carrying such things. I find many of their items like their pens, capsules, etc are designed well, however they are all heavy and aren't things I tend to want to carry unfortunately. They are fun to fidget with however in my office.

Great upload Sir! As always, videos with many products are my favorite. Two things I'd like to add: 1. Grade 5 Titanium is amongst the cheapest Ti alloys. I'm saying this because EDC brands are so proud of it, as is it's something special. It's like taking pride of a diamond being made with Carbon atoms. Yes, it's a go to composition... What's the fuss? There is no reason to use any other Ti alloy. Advertising the mentioned grade 4 Ti does make sense, as it's unique. 2. Almost no one is a victim of RFID theft. For years the information had been encrypted. They only occasions your data can be stolen are when using the card, i.e. it's outside of the RFID blocker... Both of my points are basically the same. I'm not a hater, I just don't like the fishy smell that's behind "GRADE 5 TITANIUM!!!" and "RFID BLOCKING!!!". Both are advertised to make us pay more money for something that's kind of silly.

Brilliant review, Jon - thanks! 🙂 I have a question... on locking blades being illegal in the UK to carry "without good reason" - would you please make a video (perhaps even if only a 'shorts' video) explaining what such reasons are valid? I'm very curious to know, as I'm sure others might be... thanks, Jon! 🙂
@jrd332 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I don't think "good reason" is legally defined, so it's down to what you can persuade Mr. Policeman is a "good reason". An obvious example would be if such a knife were required for your job, but you'd probably need to be working or on your way to or from work to use that. But location would also matter - a policeman is more likely to let you go with a warning if you're hiking across the moors with a dodgy knife than if you are walking in a busy town centre. Like a lot of British law, there is a lot of room for interpretation. Caveat: I'm British, but not a legal expert.
@iainmurphy72442 жыл бұрын
It seems that although the legislation also says 3 inch “cutting edge”, it really means 3 inch total blade length to be within the law according to black belt barrister channel videos on KZbin. Bit of a nuisance if so, since websites can probably unsurprisingly say it is edc friendly on the actual sharpened edge length rather than blade length and people might be caught out unawares by locally Bobby. Interested to hear if others find this a pain or potential problem? Cheers.

I would add that IMO, so many products can be improved upon, and the ingenuity in the EDC market is a great example. So many products you can buy see few advancements, useful features added, even over decades. It's like manufacturers got lazy. In fact, sadly, in many cases, rather than focusing on improving a tool or device, they instead focus on how to make it cheaper, saddling the customer with parts that need replacing regularly (unique and trade marked so they can charge a lot for it), and other sleazy pursuits. Nothing is made to last, quite to the contrary. For example, while Pichi is sending out new replacements above (awesome), you have ASUS trying to trick the customer into voiding their warrantee with a bios update?!

Credit and Debit card fraud has been a big problem for over 20 years in the UK, most fraud takes place on train and tube platforms during the morning, most theft odd amounts of money 23p, 65p or 76p as most people do not check less then £10 and business users £50, and therefore many do not know they have had fraud conducted against then. Even if they do spot this outgoing, people do not investigate any further and do not want to bother their bank for such a small discrepancy on their account.

I’ve been watching your channel for a year now and have to ask, why do they not want you carrying a locking blade? I don’t get it. This seems like the only area where they scared of safety features. How many times in the last 10 years have you heard of someone getting attacked with a folding knife that has a locking mechanism. They aren’t built for self-defense. I live in Japan and it’s even worse here, but I just don’t understand the thinking here.

I don't get all this excitement for titanium, it's seems nonsensical for me. Does it have any REAL advantages over stainless steel in EDC use?

lower weight is probably the biggest benefit

you are right to stress the importance of TIP WIGGLE, an excess of which is just unbearable!

Not sure why you let your government tell you the reason you're carrying a tool is invalid. I'd say unless you're harming or intending to harm others you should be able to do what you want. Seems like Government over reach to me.

For the price of just the flashlight I could get cheaper version of every item, and still be under budget.

Literary the last video i looked at your channel, 30 mins ago, you said that your go-to torch is the Nitecore T4K but here you say that you prefer Rovyvon keychain. Mabe you carry both, but is this a sign of a compromised influencer that is not to be trusted?

I'd be embarrassed to pull that wallet out in public. Looks like it's for people who still think Star Wars is cool.

Happy Saturday Jon, nice, fashionable & sturdy gadgets but overpriced . The UK with its insane Woke knife carry laws is a captive market . If I lived in the UK I would be super frustrated by not being able to carry a decent sized locking blade flipper or assisted opening knife to say nothing of a licensed pistol. At least for now they let you carry your beloved 91mm Victorinox Compact but watch out for when the UK authorities reclassify the notorious Victorinox Toothpick as a banned weapon of war under the Geneva Convention on a par with flame throwers & napalm! After all not many know it but Wilhelm Tell used a Victorinox Toothpick to shoot the apple off of his sons head & not as many believe a crossbow bolt!

Hi Steve 😂 if they ban the Compact I might have to leave!

S30V is wery good steal but its not super prium cos S90V is much beter or M390 Bohler, or Elmax. It's sad that Victorinox and other multi tool are so bad steal that 158CM 20ares steal is something that's paying more that must bee normal. And I'm not talking about litle Swiss knives than multi tool no matter what name of multi tool is if something cost 200-250€ than must know how many rockwels is good or best for players or for knife. And tools are stuck 1960 and they don't go far in to the future:)). Best regards

I will try to remember - when translated through video this equates to flashing brighness on the screen - if that is still a risk it would require a lot of disclaimers
