You know, it occurred to me that maybe u should think about doing music videos too, maybe. My reasoning is that your songs are so badass that they'll gain a lot of recognition from people just listening to them, let alone seeing the live performances of them. It might seem like you'd be diluting the potency of your delivery, and the statement of your songs, but in reality, the more signs pointing the hapless wanderer to your medicine, the better. To find out that you're doing it all on one guitar and are an all powerful rock god is just a cataclysmically huge bonus, really, anyways; it seems to me that the real gift is the song itself (though you have the most righteous delivery I've EVER seen). Just think: someone hears Dance of the Last Rhino for the first time, whilst watching the phattest music video that u and your power team can dream up. They proceed to listen to your song (and Passionflower, of course) for weeks, only to finally one day see the live performances, and are so totally blown away and the wow factor so huge, that they have to go out and buy an album not only for themselves, but their girlfriend, parents, and siblings too! Jk ;) But seriously, it kinda happened to me like that, but in reverse LOL I would really enjoy seeing what visual stories you might choose to tell along with your songs though, even though recording them performed live like that all badass and shit is def the crowning achievement between the two, unquestionably. Now I will go and listen to your version of Message in a Bottle!! :) Maaan, I wanna see maybe a Gorillaz style animation, post apocalypse maybe, but yeah, trapped on a deserted island, and then at the end all these bottles start showing up, and then..... ..the industry would probably come after you and try to sue u for copyright infringement if u cracked their 'video code' tho, and started adopting their tactics for use in your own music video campaigns. They for sure wouldn't like it if you started beating them at their own gametable. Now is the perfect time for you to break in though, you've gotta be like the most relevant and awesome one-man acoustic act out there right now, if not ever!!! Btw, hate to ramble the fuck on and on, but yeah, just wanted to talk about Eric Clapton for a sec. I know he is said to have taken his music seriously, and indeed I was a huge fan growing up, but yeah, nowadays really not so much, except maybe one song still. Point is, while I may not take Eric Clapton very seriously anymore, I think that you totally fit that bill. I feel that you really take your music very seriously, and that it's obvious to the listener. When someone hears your music, they can tell it's a masterpiece. But yeah, I've been saying that you're like what Eric Clapton wanted to be when he grew up. Just wanted to let u know one way that I describe you when I talk about you man, hahaha!! ....hope ur not a huge Clapton fan, if so no pun intended

You really are the best musician I've ever seen. A lot of people, when sharing someone they believe to be the best guitar player in the world, share a guitarist whose amazingly fast and precise, but there is barely any passion in what they play. You play so many contrasting rhythms at once with so many variations in harmonics and tapping, which I find way harder than just mastering speed. Drums/lead with right hand and rhythm with left. And everything still has so much emotion/ease to it.

If I remember rightly from a video about his pedal board, he uses a boss OC-3 which essentially allows an octave down that you can set to only work one notes below a certain point, so he probably has his set up to only work on the notes on the lowest string.

typingbacon Anything can be an instrument, and any instrument can be anything. The beauty of creative expression is that it can be anything, anywhere, on any thing. I wouldn't say guitar is becoming less of a stringed instrument and more of a percussion instrument. Sure, we see more players including percussion these days, but that's just because more people are expanding things they can do on guitar and they are getting more airtime. There is still a vast majority of people who play guitar 'traditionally'.

IMHO 63 yr old opinion :) Jon is one of those rare musicians who is only limited by his belief that he HAS no limitations and so keeps on surprising us with the influences he manages to not just draw upon but make his own by adding the inimitable Jon Gomm stamp, which is like a Quality Control guarantee that says: "This can be played to guests with confidence." I can hear the swish of the grass anklets on the tribal dancers feet, in the Dance Of The Last Rhino, and then too, I can hear faint echoes of the late Michael Hedges in Jon's tasteful voicings.

It's inspirational to see you passionately expressing the highest form of mastery. The sincere smile on your face throughout is transcendent of all meaningful reality. Love.
