Joni Mitchell was interviewed while promoting her boxed set "Love Has Many Faces: A Quartet, a Ballet, Waiting to Be Danced", released in 2014. The four-CD set includes Mitchell's liner notes, with her memories of the sessions and interactions. She gets grumpy about Bob Dylan and David Geffen and calls out her own songs for new criticism. "Some of my songs bug people. They hate them," she wrote.
The Joni Mitchell discussion took place in Los Angeles, CA at age 71. She is one of the most prominent musicians to come out of the legendary 1960s Laurel Canyon music scene, which included the Doors; Neil Young; Crosby, Stills & Nash; Carole King; the Eagles; and the Mamas and the Papas. Since then her music has inspired and been covered by artists including Bjork, Janet Jackson, Steely Dan, and Chaka Khan.
April 10, 2015 update: Joni Mitchell suffered a "minor medical emergency" when she was found unconscious on March 31, 2015, in her Los Angeles home and rushed to the hospital. It's still unclear what caused her to become unconscious. "Joni remains under observation in the hospital and is resting comfortably," Mitchell's site states. "We are encouraged by her progress and she continues to improve and get stronger each day."
