Welcome to the official KZbin channel of Joni Mitchell, whose songs “River,” “Both Sides Now," “California,” and albums ‘Clouds,’ ‘Ladies of the Canyon’ and ‘Blue’ compose only a fragment of a multi-disciplinary artistic output that has been embraced across generations, inspired multitudes of artists, and earned every conceivable accolade.
One of the world’s most remarkable and beloved artists, Mitchell has influenced musicians across a vast cross-section of genres with her ethereal songs that reflect social and environmental ideals. The prolific singer-songwriter-painter-poet has not only written and produced her music, but also designed most of her album covers and packaging. A journey into Joni Mitchell’s artistry is one of a highly original, harmonically innovative, and emotionally charged, familiar yet fresh adventure.

This album helped my find myself in the 80's as I drove through the canyons of Colorado in my Rambler and, listening tonight I am clearly still searching. Went from vinyl to a Walkman to CD's to here and now. Timeless. "Your'e bound to lose if you let the blues get you scared to feel. And I feel like I'm just being born, like a shiny light breaking in a storm..." Truth for now, hope for what is to come.

This music defined my life in the 70's. I was living in Sun Valley, Idaho, recovering from the loss of my boyfriend in a plane crash, and the music soothed my soul so many times when I was grieving. Her music, and that of John Denver, Seals and Croft and others was such a wonderful reflection of the 70's. It was such a simpler time than now, devoid of all of the craziness of today's world.

It's such a blessing that Joni has decided to release her first albums in this way. I can still clearly remember the first time listening to Ladies of the Canyon and how startled I was to hear her play the piano in such an already very personal way. Joni has cited Laura Nyro as one of her major inspirations when she first started composing and you can clearly see this in some of the songs on this album. Thank you once again, sweet lady of these songs-canyon.

Lightning does strike twice as in 98, I got to speak to her again at LAX baggage claim. I had JUST ordered her concert on my flip phone as back then you had to call DirecTV for pay for view and it was the last showing of her Universal Amphitheatre concert. I turned around and BAM there is Joni looking in her purse for her baggage claim stubs. I waited patiently for her to look up and when she did I said "I am SO glad to see you. I just ordered your concert but didn't know I was ordering you!" She smiled and said "oh I didn't know there was another showing." I told her it was the last one that weekend. Shared I had just seen her with Van Morrison and Bob Dylan or as I put it " Van and Bob" only later to think "WHY DID I SAY VAN AND BOB" LOL

Last night I watched the documentary Laurel Canyon. It brought back so many memories as well as some tears. I graduated from Burbank High in 1968 and the music scene was very vibrant. Much was centered in Laurel Canyon and the feeling of camaraderie was beautiful. Sadly life's events overtook this. Last week David Crosby, who was a big part of this scene, passed away. However the memories and the legacy live on. Thank you Joni for your gifts and sharing with us with a wealth of wonderfully crafted songs.

And the Fear of Falling off that Cliff of Success !!! Without Joni Mitchell's Power of Transformational Music , I don't know if I Would have Made It ! All 19 of her Studio Albums Have Had Lifelong Impressions and Inspiration on me that are Indescribable ... We Survived the Hallucinogenic Era and the Free Love of the 60's & 70's ... I still shed Joyous " Tears at the Falling of a Star " And the MUSIC of Joni Mitchell ... Her Artistry will Endure Long after we've Gone !!! The Year 2000 saw one of Joni's most Moving Albums ... Aptly Entitled " Both Sides Now " Where she sang " Standards " with a Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra ... And her Renditions of " A Case of You " and " Both Sides Now " were Hauntingly Beautiful ...She sang them in her Alto Range ... I was Stunned at the Depth of her Voice ... I Say Thank You Joni for Your Lifeswork ... What a Great Artist And the Men in her Life Both Personal and Professional ... James Taylor , Leonard Cohen , Bob Dylan , Charlie Mingus , Brian Blade . Graham Nash , David Crosby to name just a Few What a Life ... She Overcame Polio and an Anyeurysm ( and Stroke ) She Fought her way back to Health ... Wow !!! "We are stardust, billion year old carbon…" Woodstock is an extraordinary mantra. The anthem of a "woke" generation who didn't hit on the idea that they were newly awakened to something that everyone before had missed, though they could be sanctimonious.

The second track on this album, For Free, has to be one of the most alluring songs of the entire album. Sometimes I'll get a spontaneous 'ear worm' from this piece and it takes a mighty effort to dislodge it!
