all the verses about submission and the verses about women, etc. have frustrated me so much to the point where I almost stopped following God. At the time it seemed to me that God had made me just for my entire world to revolve around some man and I didn't really like that idea. I've come to the conclusion that I should take a long break from dating and just focus on my relationship with God rather than worrying about those verses and being overly frustrated 24/7

God created us to be treated like slaves or servants permanently for all eternity, or we'll burn in hell if we don't accept it. I thought we were all supposed to be happy and live happy lives. How are we gonna be happy being slave to men for all eternity? Men wouldn't want to be our slaves and to be constantly looked down upon, so why does God want us to be slaves to them? ugh

I love your points! I just have 1 question, maybe for the next Q&A. 1 Timothy 2:11-12 "A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet." I'm a woman and Christian and this verse has me struggling with my faith because I don't think women were made just so we could just sit pretty and quiet. Verse 11 could be interpreted as that women should learn and be silent so that we can learn without our own voices interfering, and we must submit to the Lord, just like all mankind should. But verse 12 says that women shouldn't teach men nor have power over men, which leads me to think that the bible is sexist and that the writer of this book believed women to be inferior and therefore shouldn't be allowed to teach or speak to a man, but rather sit quietly, like objects. please tell me your thoughts. I really need some guidance from a mentor now.

Finally Something Different read Ephesians 5:22-28 in the MESSAGE version. I use to struggle with this topic on "submission" as well but these verses helped me grasp it better. As always, I'd pray & ask the Lord to reveal what the scriptures mean and what He has in them for you. I hope it helps! :)
@23blueninja7 жыл бұрын
First, "in quietness and full submission" does not only apply to women. 1 Timothy 2:8 says men should pray "without anger or disputing". You can see just how similar those phrases are. To pray without "disputing" is to pray in full submission. As for Timothy saying that a woman should not teach a man, I think It's important to remember that these verses are instructions for building the "government" body of a physical church, as you can see in the next chapter where it talks about qualifications for deacons and such. It's also important to remember how God compares the relationship of the church to that of a bride and groom. The church is modeled in the same way, that is, a wife should submit to the authority of the husband because he is the leader of the household. Men are appointed the "leader" because of their stronger "vessels" and their tendency to squash emotions and move forward. Not to say that makes them better than women, just that men are generally biologically disposed to have thicker skin. In biblical times, with the lack of modern medicine "survival of the fittest" was still a concept that applied to humans. You had to be strong, physically, to survive. Now, keep in mind these verses are applying to Christian men and women. saying that a women should submit to the authority of her husband does NOT excuse sinful behavior or actions towards the husband's wife. The husband must act with love and honor towards his wife, to do anything otherwise is a sin. If you want to look at it in a positive light, husbands are meant to treat their wives like royalty, to provide for them and ensure they are well taken care of. I realize in the modern era many women prefer independence, and that is where the struggle comes in. Submitting to the authority of your husband does not mean obeying his every whim. It means respecting the decisions he makes to move your household forward in a positive and Godly manner. To hold his hand as he leads the both of you towards Christ. Part of being a Christian as a woman is learning to appreciate the hierarchy God created for the benefit of both men and women. Men are charged to treat their wives with such dignity because they are the greatest earthly treasure they will ever receive. Wives are charged with being that treasure, by supporting their husband in Christ and making their house a home. I hope this helped somewhat.
@shadypenguinX7 жыл бұрын
Finally Something Different I agree with arch henderson's interpretation. For me, it would be easier to submit to men if they weren't so barbaric (not talking about the good ones but let's be honest more domestic abuse victims are women and all these misogynists hating on feminism are really annoying me.) For me as a Christian, I just pray to God about it and when I interact with men and women, I don't focus on whether who should submit etc but to treat each and everyone as equal and same: a human. One thing I realized in my relationships so far is that women love men, and men are protective and caring towards women. I hope this helps, just keep praying and bring this issue to Jesus. Best of luck, sister.

BigPigPig I know it doesn't sound appealing but I still stand where I do. There are things that men can do that women can't do. Just like there are things women can do that men can't. And just because God has a certain role for women to follow, does not mean He doesn't see us as equals. Galatians 3:28 - There is no Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female; for you are one in Christ Jesus. 1 Peter 3:7 - Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker vessel Also, there's nothing wrong with submission. We submit to our parents, our teachers, the government's laws, our bosses, ect... It doesn't mean that parents and teachers are greater than us in value. You're not weak for submitting, you're not brainwashed for submitting. In fact, the enemy is trying to turn everything that God has established and flip it upside down. People are told that women can do more or just as much as men. And sure, I don't doubt that, but just because we can do something doesn't mean we should, or doesn't mean that the outcome will be good.
@KB-xx2sn6 жыл бұрын
BigPigPig Your whole statement of the bible is sexist sounds pretty biased to me. Can you at least understand my point of thinking? It's fine if you don't agree. I understand where you're coming from, I was there too. It doesn't make you brainwashed or limited. It doesn't mean that I am either.

oscar diaz I agree the Bible is sexist, but Judaism is worse, and Islam is the most misogynistic of all. Religion is so old, reflecting the times in which the scriptures were written, so of course they call for the subjugation of women. That was the norm then. The problem is that 21st-century people are trying to live 1st-century standards.

Where it says, "Show honor to the woman as the weaker vessel." In my mind, I feel it's basically saying, "Treat your woman like she is fragile." Because people are more careful with things that are fragile. A plastic cup isn't to be worried about if dropped but a glass cup is handled more carefully because it can break if not treated right. That's how I'm interpreting that part of the verse. A woman must be treated as glass. It doesn't look sexist to me at all. And yes, women are generally, physically weaker. But they are genetically stronger according to biological studies. So there's a plus for the ladies.

Hey Jon what do you think about the best sermon ever told by Paul Washer ? You're not saved from the American Christian thing about praying once and you're saved. You're saved if you continue to repent every single day and you live not for the world but for god, and you follow Jesus with all your heart and when you fall off the path (since you're actually saved) God sees that and puts you right back on. This really woke me up man, it took me 17 years (I'm 18) to really know god and truly believe in him. My whole life I grew up in a Christian family but I never really comprehended it because I saw around me "Christians" who are "#blessed" but who sin just like everyone else and who don't live for god and never read the Bible or pray to him. I didn't really want to be "Christian" if that what I would be like. Any hoo, That was a 10 year old sermon, And the main problem he pointed out is still a HUGE problem in the church today. I know many people like that. Just asked for your thoughts

This is a blind comment (a comment prior to watching). I wanted to throw in my thoughts before I watch this great video. Tbh, it's ignorance to say it's sexist because those who claim it to be clearly haven't read Scripture enough. In the Bible, a woman led a nation to worship. Heck, a few of the books are about a woman. The Book of Ruth? Ruth is a woman. Not to mention God loved us enough to make us. He made male and female. Both are two halves of a whole in humanity. It's why we have male and female of every living thing.

Remember, God allowed the first people to find Jesus' empty tomb to be WOMEN. The first people to spread the news that Christ has risen were WOMEN. If God were sexist, wouldn't he have made sure that a man was the first person to see the tomb empty? Also, I don't remember the story fully, but Esther was also a woman right? She became queen and ended up saving her family and country because she trusted in God.

A few books about a woman is meager compensation for the discrimination present in every other verse. Specific treatment of female slaves if they "fail to please their master". Given right for a rapist and a father to work out a marrying arrangement for the victim. The mother has no say, but most importantly the victim has no say. Implied and expressed inferiority of women by evidence of them having to be silent when a man tells them, subservient to their men, and listed within the property of their men. " The first people to spread the news that Christ has risen were WOMEN. How many apostles were women? how many writers of the new testament were women? Jesus, the personification of god was a man, and the title of "father" is obviously male. These books were written millenia ago, of course they will be sexist. A few contrary incidents do not change this.
