O my gosh! Guys this brings back so many memories 😁 yen was actually born in melaka and we have been to jonka a couple of times already. The food and shops on that street are super cool. Chicken rice ball is so dang good. There is this thing called baki tun only located in that area. Man coconut flesh, laksa and the chicken rice ball so shiok man! Looks like you both had an amazing time ❤❤❤
@PuriandSue6 жыл бұрын
We were here for Sue's cousin's wedding. So we decided to stop by Jonker street. Yen's hometown Melaka is definitely a food heaven, no wonder she herself is a foodie! 😄 So many other places we haven't explored in Melaka! It'll be the next round! 😄

Yes, the cendol sold by the mamak across from the Hard Rock cafe is very good too with its brilliant gula melaka. There is an aunty out of town in Klebang who sold cendol to die for but very difficult to consume it as she is always sold out half an hour after opening. People travelled from as far as Singapore for a day trip to try her cendol as she grew the pandan leaves and coconut right in her back yard. I was told her cendol is heavenly and I even chided her that since making several trips and still missing out, she is off my Christmas card and CNY lists. The other place is a mee goreng place next to my alma mater, Anglo Chinese School aka Sekolah Menegah Methodist, and always packed to the rafters. Also known as mee bodoh as it is just plain mee goreng but very good as the proprietors were classmates and had honed their cooking skills since the sixties. Across the road is a wonderful hee kiaw noodle and also to die for noodle. Again very quickly they sold out their offerings. Then you have satay celup in Bukit Cina which always have such a long queue. Yes, plenty of place to visit and eat in Malacca not to mention the place drips with history.
@PuriandSue5 жыл бұрын
Whoa thanks for the info. We'll definitely visit Malacca again and explore some more food; especially those you've suggested. Sounds really awesome, almost drooling just by reading it haha!

How come I found the normal chicken rice even better than the balls ?? anyways, the satay was hard to beat! super duper!
@PeterandYen6 жыл бұрын
Hey haven't been to that satay place! Looks interesting with that pineapple sauce 😮
@PuriandSue6 жыл бұрын
Hey there guys! 😄 Yea it was an interesting idea so we decided to try it out, however we're not a big fan of it. I think we ate some satay in Jonker street itself a couple of years back which we think it was much better.
@FoodandFootprints6 жыл бұрын
Ohh pineapple peanut sauce?! And with pork offal - that sounds like a nice combination
@PuriandSue6 жыл бұрын
Yeah really interesting, but not a huge fan. I love the classic satay better! 😄

@hangtuah8885 жыл бұрын
OMG, you are actually in the street where I was born and grew up until I went overseas for higher education. Unfortunately, the street is not really known for its food except the two chicken rice places at the start of the street. The second shop selling Hainanese chicken rice which you did not visit invented the chicken rice balls as it was a necessity for the godown workers who used to push the tongkang up river with huge and long poles to quickly gobbled down their food and hence it was handy to make them into a ball for consumption. Jonker 88 was not there when I grew up but there was a curry rice place where the Geographer is which served brilliant curry beef and pork rice. I believed they move to the outskirt of town. Where are you two originally from?
@PuriandSue5 жыл бұрын
Wow thanks for the insight!! Didn't know the history of the chicken rice balls! We're from Kuala Lumpur, we were just visiting Jonker street this round for a day, Melaka has so many good food, we wish we could eat more!!
@LeonandTash6 жыл бұрын
It all looks so good, but those durian puffs are a must try!! We need to give those a go 😂Dam that Baba laska place was packed 😲, you know the food must be good when everyone is willing to stand up and eat it 😂We like the idea of the pineapple peanut sauce, but we get the feeling it wasn't all that great in reality Puri? 🤔😁
@PuriandSue6 жыл бұрын
Hey there guys! Good to hear that you would give durian puffs a try! Do you guys love durian? 😄 Yea that pineapple sauce and satay was disappointing, it was on the list of things to eat in Jonker so we decided to try, we walked 10 minutes for that!! (To and fro = 20 minutes! 🤣)
@LeonandTash6 жыл бұрын
@@PuriandSue I wouldn't say we are durian lovers, it's just fun to try in different forms. Like we wouldn't buy a durian fruit to eat, but durian ice-cream, durian puff, etc...we'll eat those, haha. Bummer about the walk for the sauce, but it's one of those things aye, you've got to try it to know it 😉
