This guy is soooo talented. Few vocalist play a guitar with the skill of Jonny Lang. Mysteriously this song grabbed me like few songs ever have. I am 65 years old and like many genres of music but this version of this song by Jonny may well be my favorite song of all time. I too wish he would record it just so I could support him and buy it.

The greatest song writers and singers write and sing the way they do because their is a realness to the song. Most people don't really listen to the words of a song. If you actually take a moment and LISTEN, you will find a story. Music is an amazing gift!

All right, all right...slow your roll here. Jonny is definitely an amazing musician and singer but to say he's "the most talented artist there's ever been" seems a bit disrespectful to a lot of people. First in line would be the guy who actually wrote this song (and recorded on his own album), Bruce McCabe (the guy you see playing piano in this video). I first saw Jonny when he was still known as "Kid Jonny Lang" and he'd travel to Minneapolis with his band and play at a place called Boondocks. Bruce played their regularly with his own band, The Hoopsnakes, and that's how he got to know Jonny. Jonny's greatest hits album is literally littered with Bruce's songs (Still Rainin', Wander this World, Rack 'em Up, Lie to Me...and this one, Irish Angel). Yea, Jonny is totally amazing but to say he's the best artist ever without recognizing that his best music was written by Bruce seems a bit much. :)

“The Portuguese call it saudade: a longing for something so indefinite as to be indefinable. Love affairs, miseries of life, the way things were, people already dead, those who left and the ocean that tossed them on the shores of a different land - all things born of the soul that can only be felt.” ― Anthony De Sa, Barnacle Love . Will
@rmabgoi7 жыл бұрын
You are right. The word "saudade" is a portuguese word, we are the only people who have this word. In english, the therm is "i miss you" ( to miss someone, something). "Saudade" describe perfectly my people.. we are "saudosos" (homesick), we are.. fado ! Fado(our music) portrays our way of being, our laments, our losses. We were the greatest empire in the XVI century, but... we are latins, we think that we are smarter than we really are !... i hate that on my people !!! That´s why we are 5th corruption ranking... such a beautiful country... we are one of the few countrys in the world that do not need this... united europe !!! We are the ones who pay more for the electricity, and gasoline, in all europe !!!.... and our minimum wage is... 530eur !!! Oh, by the way... we were the first nation who abolished slavery. Yes, i have "saudades" (plural) of something i have never experienced... to live in a country such as Dennmark, Norway, Sweden. (regardind to social conditions). Cheers.

What a wonderful comment!!! Bless you, and yours!!! I am the last in the line of countless generations of fishermen and sailors. Some of my most cherished memories is my fishing and sailing with the strong and kind Portuguese fishermen of our Northeast; who were accepting of the hardships of the life but could always manage to find the silver-lining on every cloud!!! Please Be Well My Friend, and Stay Strong on Your Journey, Will

“It was many and many a year ago, In a kingdom by the sea, That a maiden there lived whom you may know By the name of ANNABEL LEE; And this maiden she lived with no other thought Than to love and be loved by me. I was a child and she was a child, In this kingdom by the sea; But we loved with a love that was more than love- I and my Annabel Lee; With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven Coveted her and me. And this was the reason that, long ago, In this kingdom by the sea, A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling My beautiful Annabel Lee; So that her highborn kinsman came And bore her away from me, To shut her up in a sepulchre In this kingdom by the sea. The angels, not half so happy in heaven, Went envying her and me- Yes!- that was the reason (as all men know, In this kingdom by the sea) That the wind came out of the cloud by night, Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee. But our love it was stronger by far than the love Of those who were older than we- Of many far wiser than we- And neither the angels in heaven above, Nor the demons down under the sea, Can ever dissever my soul from the soul Of the beautiful Annabel Lee. ->For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side Of my darling- my darling- my life and my bride, In the sepulchre there by the sea, In her tomb by the sounding sea.”
