I've watched several videos on this type of pump and only one I gave a thumbs up. A. Only one I've seen with a clear explanation of the in and out (I realize this is easy to figure out, but still nice he says which is which). B. Only one I've seen that talks about cleaning it (and how) after it has been used. C. Several videos do not show the use of the parts that hold the tube in place at the pump end. One video even showed the tube pop off while being used because he failed to put that on. Hilarious. Nice job.

Awesome review- looking to get one of these to pump out the old gear oil in my bush hog gearbox, which doesn’t have a drain plug. Quick tip- I’d use spray silicone to lube that plunger seal, WD-40 is petroleum based like oil and can eat rubber seals over time, where silicone won’t. @JonnyDIY

You can, will just need to attach the small hose to go down there and siphon it. Then you will need to use the dipstick and how much oil it takes to refill and youll be able to see how much you were able to siphon out. Hopefully all/most of it 👍 Draining from bottom is usually easier, but on certain vehicles siphoning is the way to go

I had success with this, but on a 1994 f150, I had to improvise...the red insert hose wasnt' strong or long enough to reach into the front gas tank, so I inserted a ten foot garden hose, which went all the way in, then, 6 inches out of the tank, I cut the hose, shortening it, the inserted the red hose into the garden hose and successfully pumped out almost 15.gallons of old fuel in almost.an hour....so remember, with a Ford, you're going to need a 10 foot hose to insert....good luck.

I've used one of these for years on 4-cycle lawn equipment, and it's been great. I recently inherited some 2-cycles. Should I care about cross-contamination from the pump? I understand that I need to keep the fuel separate, but what if I use the same pump on the 4 cycle engines? I'm supposing a small residue of 2-cycle oil would just burn off in a 4-cycle engine. Do you use your cleaning technique every time you change fluids that you are pumping?
@JonnyDIY
@JonnyDIY Жыл бұрын
It shouldn't be a problem to use the same pump on either. I do clean it every time I siphon brake fluid and gas. I wasn't sure which ruined one of my pumps before, was probably the brake fluid if you've been using it for gas without issue 👍

I've heard of people doing them, you probably wont get as much out. Still going to have to change filter though so may as well remove drain bolt

I think I messed up on my first try. I tried to suck out some extra coolant out of the reservoir and the first two pumps the pressure sucked in the tank and almost exploded. I'm worried about any pinch points that formed.

Are you calling it a pump or a siphon? The video description uses the word siphon.
@JonnyDIY

It's both really. Harbor Freight lists it as a "Multi-Use Transfer Pump" though 👍

@@JonnyDIY Not sure about the siphon part. I understood that a siphon uses negative pressure for flow rather than pumping. And I always thought a siphon operated continuously once primed. This apparently doesn't do either AFAICT. AAR awesome you for checking comments and shouting back!

Will this pump gas up from a 5gal can on the ground into the gas tank of an SUV? Goal for me is to not have to put the can above the gas cap level. Also, after pumping soapy water through it to clear out residual gas, do you need to rinse with clear water and let dry before adding oil or wd-40? Thanks!
@JonnyDIY
@JonnyDIY 3 жыл бұрын
It will pump it, but you will have to continually pump it as it won't have the siphoning effect without the gas above. Shouldnt take too long. They also sell a battery operated siphon pump that may be better if you have to regularly do this. I usually let it dry for a few after cleaning with soapy water before the wd-40 👍

You really need one hand to vacume up the gas with the input hose from the corners of the tank, then you need 2 more hands to hold and operate the pump. Not so good ☹️
@JonnyDIY
@JonnyDIY 4 жыл бұрын
True. It only works well as a siphon pump when youre pumping something higher than the the pump and transfer container
