Yeah I'm 46 myself I quit at 33 but I was a good skater! I was going to start freestyle skating but at 45 I got electrocuted @400k volts was in a coma for 3 months and lost my right hand (paralyzed) though every day I get it back a little more. Iys dead weight & absolutely can NOT fall on it. I JUST started being able to move my fingers again just a wiggle but from having no movement or feeling for the past 8 months and the burns have mostly healed. Anyways instill love skating and can still do kickflips & switch flips but I prefer much lost my treflips and big flips.

Yuzuki Kawasaki is disgustingly smooth! These kids are a clear example of how the amazing Japanese people are the best at finding the things that their children gravitate towards naturally and nurturing the ones that they excel at. Some of the kids in this video could skate street along some of our greats here in the states in my opinion. Awesome video Jonny! Though everything has to come from somewhere, many cultures/lifestyles are truly borderless and are naturally loved and/or perfected by people of any nation, ultimately revealing that we're all the same thing with minor differences. This video was an excellent example of that! Thanks for making it!

As a non-skater, the slowmo clips are incredible. It looks amazing/crazy in regular speed too but when it's slowed down and I can see what they are actually doing by manipulating the board with their feet with godlike precision it becomes mind blowing. Skating's future is in good hands.

Late 90s I was just kid at my local skate park in Seattle, WA. This old head that had to be in his 40s at the time would come in full gear and throw it down old school pimp tight freestyle. The whole park would stop just to watch him strut his stuff. Really cool to see a lost art coming back with vengeance. I couldn’t disagree more that this isn’t real skating, it’s even more challenging and technical using every aspect of your complete deck. My favorite was the pogo, to a handstand pogo, to a handstand manual. Dude was a beast on his hands or feet 😅

The freestyle scene is very much alive in Japan. Most skaters rarely go for freestyle because modern skateboarding is more radical and a lot more exciting, but the technicalities of freestyle skateboarding is definitely not something anyone can achieve. I respect that.

They really should have had freestyle in the olympics, I feel like the average viewer (non-skater) would find it super cool and entertaining to watch - makes sense too since freestyle has continued to have world championships and competitions all these years

the prolbem with freestyle events is that there is a fix set of moves everyone must be able to execute, so it gets boring quickly when only a few tricks per run can be selected by the participant.

Being good at skateboarding is subjective. To everyone out there, you don't have to do any particular tricks to be good. If you get that special feeling while you're rollin with your homies then you're already getting everything you'll ever need from these useless wooden toys. Listen to your heart, ride with style and take your skating in whatever direction your imagination can dream of.

It's partially subjective, but there are still objective metrics you can use to determine someone's level of skill. What would be more honest, is that being good at skateboarding shouldn't be the most important aspect. Skateboarding should be about fun, friends, amd personal growth.

I have a skateboard, cruiser and longboard. I have great cardio and I can go really fast but I am just a beginner when it comes to tricks at the skatepark. When I struggle to do simple tricks, it makes it even more impressive what the skaters on youtube are doing. I do like the commute and listening to my shokz bone conduction headphones. Tricks have a different feeling. I do ride in the pool as it is fun but I am just not that good as others that are in the skatepark. I gotta put the work and time in at the skatepark to be better. Watching far better skaters than me doesn't make me down but I got to admit there is a little bit inner embarrassment when I am trying to do beginner tricks and some others are doing really fancy tricks and landing them. I will say the other fellow stranger skaters are welcoming and friendly to me though. They aren't laughing at me if I fail an easy trick.... maybe they are laughing inside to be nice. Ha
