Instagram is No Longer A Photo Sharing App? (Yeah it is)

I totally get your point, and I even agree until a certain point. The problem, in my view, lies in the fact that enhancing non-photo-centric features will act as an incentive to people to produce content in all these other formats (automatically making photos less relevant). To my taste, there's a lot of garbage content on Instagram, and it all started when they started pursuing to becoming something closer to Snapchat and Tiktok. No matter how hard you try to avoid it, all this garbage keeps coming more and more. On the other hand, from a business standpoint, what Instagram is doing makes sense. To be honest, I wish Facebook released something like an "Instagram Classic" app, where you would only have photo content (sharing the same base as the "modern" Instagram).

idk I believe its much better if Facebook retained instagram as a photo sharing app and Make reels a separate app just like the thing they did with IGTV a few years prior even having its own app.

My reach on reels have gone down the last few days, do you think this is because they are talking about monetizing reels for certain creators earlier this week? My reach for stills is awful but I'm just going to keep putting what I like out and not feed the algorithm with mediocre work.

Thank you for clarifying. I defo thought it was pushing picture content away and replacing it with video. Good to know that Instagram is going to make video content and image content a more side by side thing.

what mosseri doesn't understand is that people will still use the platform as they please. all the changes that they plan on implementing are irrelevant if people don't go along with them. the vast majority of people didn't even hear about this new format. Instagram will always be a photo-sharing app to the vast majority of its users. if tiktok implemented a photo-sharing feature and capitalize on the momentum it would literally bury Instagram.

Exactly...we downloaded it for photo Sharing some people accually use as an album so i don't think this change is really going to change alot

@@deogratiusmartinelli7360 if you plan on building your own brand as a photographer then you better follow their guidelines. if you're just using the app to share photos, connect with friends, slide in dm's , and watch some content ( which is what the vast majority of users do) then you'll be fine. you won't even notice the difference. honestly I don't mind telling a little story behind my shots every once in a while , it's just a 15 seconds video after all.

Wonderful insight. Admittedly, I reacted to the initial announcement that IG was changing. It sounded like static images would be discarded. However, it challenged me to branch out to shoot video and start anew on KZbin. Plus I knew the dust would settle on IG with time. And I quite enjoy IG; I’ve built a great community and garnered wonderful success. It’s grossly immature to complain about a powerful marketing platform that’s free to use. Love the vid, man. 💯📸🏆

I fall in that category of hobbyist at best. So i don't expect my page to ever really blow up cause i've accepted the fact that being a real photographer is just not in the cards for me. lol I use instagram for the fun of it honestly. If you ever check it out you'll see my stuff is subpar next to real photographers but i love doing it. So for me personally these changes have no real baring on my life. Now with our business account i feel i have a lot to learn on there. But i totally agree with you.

I'll consistently get 10x more views if my reel has my face and not just a screen cap w/ narration. Social media is too exhausting I'd rather focus on my content not the 50 million ways I need to post it everywhere & can't keep up the inspiration to study the changing algorithm all the time. 😹 Thx for the vid & keeping us up to date.

You can still share photos on ig. People still see the photos on ig. Tags still work on ig. I've tried twitter, and tags didn't work on twitter! Sharing photos doesn't get shown outside the followers! Ig still does work perfectly and is still better than twitter! Ig works for free! Twitter require money to work like free ig! Don't be stupid! Share on free ig, and Boycott expensive twitter!
