Carcinisation is a real thing, it was just explained by a moron in the video. It's something that only happens in crustaceans, where they evolve over time from a non-crab form like a lobster or a shrimp into a crablike form. Dunno where he pulled king crabs from, or where he was going with that, but there you go

The funniest thing is that he kind of has a point. Crabs seem to just *keep* evolving and if you believe in a creator (which is what the simulation hypothesis kind of *is*, 'scientific' creationism) it kind of makes sense that it would be something like the thing that all of nature seems to be converging on the creation of. Either that or a beetle; there are more species of beetle than species of literally everything else combined.

@@Roach_Dogg_JR It both is and isn't correct. Carcinisation is real, but it only occurs in crustaceans which are already closely related to crabs, like lobsters and hermit crabs. He makes it sound like any sort of organism will eventually turn into a crab so long as it lives on a beach or a cave, like if you left a bat alone for several million years you'd come back to a flying crab. Going from an half-assed explanation of carcinisation to crab people controlling a simulation is some olympics-grade mental gymnastics

As I understand it, Carcinization is limited to a portion of the crustacean family, not even the entirety of it. Outside of that specific ecological niche, the crab body plan is no longer as attractive. So a hypothetical advanced species is not actually any more likely to be carcinate than any other body plan.

The simulation hypothesis isn't all that crazy in a general sense. But...even if we're in a simulation run by other creatures, there's no reason to think they're not also in a simulation, and the ones running that aren't as well, and so on all the way up the very top of the chain...at which point...how can they know they're not as well?

It's a pointless thought exercise because it makes no difference whether we're in a simulation or not. Solipsism can't be disproven, but it's just completely pointless. So what if you live in a simulation or everything you sense is fake? You have no chance of escape. So yes, maybe we're in a simulation, but it doesn't matter at all if we are.

What the guy said is actually true btw, many different organisms have evolved claws and hard shells without being related to each other (scorpions, crabs, etc.) Crablike organisms have emerged independently in different places on earth completely unrelated to each other. This is called convergent evolution, and indicates that a crab could be one of the most ideal life forms

To be completely fair, what that guy is talking about is actually scientifically valid. When people think of evolution they often think of DIVERGENT evolution where several species had a common ancestor but adapted differently to different environments and split off into their own species like Darwin’s Finches. What people think about less commonly is CONVERGENT evolution where completely different species will adapt similarly. A great example is flight: birds, insects, and bats all evolved to fly completely independent from each other because it is optimal. So the idea that everything will one day undergo convergent evolution into a crab holds some water as means have several admirable traits such as a tough exoskeleton (sometimes with a shell as a bonus), big meaty claws for catching prey, several legs as opposed to only 2 so that losing 1 isn’t as punishing, etc. Carcinisation may sound like a joke (because let’s be honest, it’s funny) but it’s far from some conspiracy theory.
