I’m lucky to have watched this guy field like this live in many matches starting in the late 90’s till the early 2000’s until he hung up his boots..an absolute joy to watch..if you observe in this video..it proves his mettle and capability..this guy was so bloody fast in his pickup and more importantly his return that in 90% of the cases..the wicketkeeper would not make it till the stumps to collect..and the ball would either hit the stumps or whizz past them with the wicketkeeper not even in the frame 🙌🏼

#Atharv Do your statement has any ground? Most of his career he fielded at point because SA was known for fast bowlers not spinners.. he used field at covers & mid on as well while spinners were on.. siva ramakrishna there are many superb fielders these days but not like him. Even his own team mates Harchell Gibbs and Australia's Ricky Ponting couldn't matched him. Harchell Gibbs was also very good even better than most of today's fielders but not as good as Johnty Rhodes. Johnty was not only like a rubber but was too quick. Fielding was his PASSION. He lives and breathes fielding. In his time fielding was not that popular like these days. Robin Singh was only active in fielding for India. Today Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina are good but not as good as the legend of fielding...Johnty Rhodes. He is the one introduced and changed the fielding forever. That's why he earned the the title "Sir Johnty Rhodes"...not for batting nor bowling but for his great and superb fielding and for introducing to the world of cricket the superb and lighting way to field. Imagine during 1990's he was fielding like this. Man! I miss those days of cricket!

I’m South African and I grew up during the Jonty years. These clips is just him pretty much every match. Like the commentator said, he is a joy to watch. The only fault I could ever find in him, is that he didn’t hit the stumps as often as I though he should’ve. But I’m only nit picking, and doesn’t take away from the brilliance that was Jonty Rhodes. Every kid in SA wanted to field like him. As elsewhere I suppose, but Jonty isn’t just a cricket player, he’s a National Icon! And a well deserved one. Top human being too. South Africa’s very own Micheal J Fox! Everyone loves him I’m glad I got to watch him live a number of times. His energy and enthusiam catches on and he’ll forever be celebrated for his contribution to the game and those that love the game. Here’s to a Sporting Legend. 🎉🍻

Watching Barry Richards and Graeme Pollock in a seniors only tournament, watching the first series after apartheid, the 92 WC game that England stole from them because of the ridiculous rain rule back then. Watching the stingy and deadly quartet of McMillan, Matthews, DeVilliers and Donald, the flashes in the pan that were Adrian Kuiper and Dave Callaghan, watching Rhodes always have a +15 next to his name (back when they used to track that ridiculous runs saved stat)..to watching my favorite player of all time Shaun Pollock. Cronje before all This team has given me so many memories. As a Non South African, I have no qualms in saying that South Africa was my favorite cricket team. I made more of an effort to watch their matches than my home country's

Us Aussies always had good slips fielders and a few gully specialists, everyone was wary of Sir Viv at short cover/midwicket because he threw with both hands, and Roger Harper was a hand-eye freak, but no-one had really imagined and then executed this type of fielding before Jonty.
