Have you read Buzz Aldrin's PhD thesis? Worth a read if you want to know how to perform orbital rendezvous without good tools. He was known as Dr rendezvous, and was sent on Apollo 10 because if they screwed up the rendezvous they were boned. Worth playing a rendezvous mission without the map screen to try out the techniques in it (try 'winging' it first to see how much fun that is). Also, pol and bop have so little gravity that you don't actually lose much by not exploiting Oberth. You are often better off doing a bi-eliptic that meets at the periapsis and then has a timing burn to meet at a later orbit. You just make a node to get you all the way to the final orbit, and burn in that direction until you get an encounter rather than the full duration. The final capture burn will be the same direction in the same place, so it is pretty efficient. Edit: I probably should have led with "Great video"... I guess I'll put it here, great video, and what I caught of the livestreams were awesome too! As for the bugs getting ironed out, I'm not optimistic. My experience with custom systems for unity is that serialization is a bitch, but can be managed if you keep it a priority. You do not build more features until the stuff below it works well. Fixing things after then is orders of magnitude harder. Shader bugs, inappropriate craft deletion bugs, and weird momentum arresting bugs are all small and probably contained. Serialization bugs, phantom forces affecting orbits, and trajectory state not being managed correctly point to deeper problems that could be hard to fix. The pause UI bug could either be something serious or something really minor.
@Stratzenblitz75 Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I have not read his PhD thesis, but honestly I should. Doing a manual rendezvous like that sounds like an interesting challenge
@ultmateragnarok8376 Жыл бұрын
It'd definitely vary. From what this shows, there are some features, such as the procedural wings, that are just wildly unstable, and the old stuff is.. dubious at best, here. Some of it, like the trajectory not showing up, might be as simple as the UI being incomplete, or it might be that the game actually no longer calculates it properly and is showing you what it's got.. which is nothing at all. I do hope the issues are just mostly superficial. Definitely they're taking the order of what to approach wrong, though, particularly as the kraken has embedded deep into their newer, more complex features. I don't know a lot about coding, despite having tried to get into it before, but I can say with confidence that two thirds of the bugs in the video were the fault of procedural wings, and that without things like that it might well have been a relatively tame mission - or perhaps there were other things more subtly holding it back beyond half-functional transfers and the occasional phantom collision.

With regards to your closing thoughts, people are saying that KSP2 is not quite ready yet. I fear it may never be 'ready'; given their aspirations for base-building and interstellar travel, the foundation for a fully rewritten sequel should have been a flawless physics engine before anything looked good. As it stands, what we got would have been better as a graphics and musical revamp DLC for KSP 1, whose physics and gameplay were already in working condition. The game should not play worse than Juno: New Origins. This feels like a thin skeleton attempting to reimplement KSP1 for them to stretch some nice shaders over. If it's fundamentally flawed, then no future update will truly fix that underlying instability, no matter if they patch the superficial bugs. Anyway, great video!
@Stratzenblitz75 Жыл бұрын
Yea this is what concerns me the most. I love building massive things in KSP, but I fear the game won't be able to support much more than simple crafts. As a game developer, I really love KSP2. Now I don't have to feel so bad about the bugs in my own spaghetticode anymore, because I know that it could always be worse ;P

This game is more glitchy then cyper punk and FNAF:SC COMBINED *edit: maybe a bit less glitchy, but the frame rate? get the fire extinguisher ready, your pc will turn into plasma
