I think the cast did a wonderful job of portraying that idea. The specific price for the pearl necklace is a symbolic representation of Daisy's price tag and how much Daisy is worth. Because Tom gave her the necklace, he is indicating that Daisy can be "bought." In the end, the necklace is nothing more than a collar with no love behind it.

I love the shy little smile that Jordan makes after she recalls the way Gatsby looked at Daisy. The way she looks down, feeling a little embarrassed by her girlish desire for that same affection. I've always been the friend observing true love and happiness consume them with joy, but have never been lucky enough to have the same attention given to me by a man. Both Jordan and I are painfully yearning for that.

in the book Nick would say that he was always just on the verge of falling in love with Jorden but what always stopped him was just how gaurded she was. It was too important to her that she was always seen as cool. Just like everyone else, image was everything. During his birthday he sort of hurt her feelings when he told her he didnt want to hang out with her for the rest of the night (considering how that day went I don't blame him for just wanting to go home) Before Nick moved away at the end he tried to reach out to her one last time but their final conversation didnt go well and she made up a story about getting engaged as a way of trying to save face so he gave up on her.

While the book made Daisy out to a total bitch without the slightest hint of moral fiber, the movie really did give a bit more of her psychological behavior with this flashback. She was girl born for wealth and trained by a selfish greedy egotistical mother to continue wealth. And she had two chances to experiment with maybe what she truly wanted. Once before marrying Tom, and again when Gatsby offered to keep her years later and run away. Daisy sort of made her own mess; had she not married Tom, the notion of being with Gatsby years later wouldn't be "too much, too soon" and she wouldn't have retreated back into the comfort of money. However her mother would have never allowed it and ultimately she would have lost Jordan and her friendships from failure to extend fortune. She might have not even had the wealth or means to even reach one of Gatsby's parties years later or even get close to hear of him again. The movie shows she was born broken and would always be broken.

I swear I feel daisy pain , we try so hard to forget about the love we once lost with something new but the same love never leaves .. we just hide all the emotions and trap them until we feel numb just living the story we were supposed to live not the one we changed the chapters so it can last forever ..

Not sure what I think about how they portrayed the tub scene (the letter falling apart). It's not quite how I imagined it in the book. Still a beautiful scene nonetheless. The way it's described in the book is as follows (from Jordan's perspective): "She began to cry--she cried and cried. I rushed out and found her mother's maid, and we locked the door and got her into a cold bath. She wouldn't let go of the letter. She took it into the tub with her and squeezed it up into a wet ball, and only let me leave it in the soap-dish when she saw that it was coming to pieces like snow."

Such a tragedy, Daisy and Gatsby could have had it all together. :( This scene can really make one think, to really choose carefully who to be with and why, if one is even supposed to marry at all. Quite the cautionary tale, this is, marry for love, not money or other such things, and don't let anyone tie you down! Daisy lost all her freedom and true happiness because of this wrong choice, that she not only could have played her own part to stop (as in she could have ignored Tom), but also what her wealthy family conditioned her to value and made her go through with. Such a depressing shame. :(
@alyssarivera44618 жыл бұрын

@AishaVonFossen8 жыл бұрын
***** This is very true. Although I do believe Gatsby would have been a much better guy for her in comparison to Tom, yes, I wholeheartedly agree. He never let those memories of Daisy go, and he tried to tear her from a life that she had already made. He never moved on. I agree, if I were Daisy, I'd feel pretty torn, too, because Gatsby just wanted her to up and leave everything right off the bat as soon as they reconnected, which can be too much to ask of anyone.

People love to say she didnt love Gatsby but she did. She loved him so much she was willing to wait for a nobody soldier instead of marrying rich. The choice was taken from her. Even in the end, Gatsby forces her to erase the years she had with Tom. Again, the choice is taken from her. She discovers he's part of a mafia, and when she wanted to run with him, he said no. Any girl would have second thoughts after that. People say that she abandoned him, but we don't know the story. She had a daughter. She couldn't be a criminal. Women were treated horribly and she knew that, she knew she had an advantage. So she tells Tom, because she can't trust anyone then, and Tom had been her partner for years. And even then, she waited for a call. Maybe she wondered if itd be less cruel to be rejected indirectly cause thats what i wondered too. So, she prefered to be a young and beautiful fool. I don't blame her. Tbh, I'd have chosen the same too. Not everyone is out there trying to defy the laws of society as they know it, some just try to live comfortably in it. Adapt. And if that's bad, then we are really in a bad route

Guess we were be hoping actress who played Jordan was the one that went blonde to play Daisy. However Daisy here is classical enough that she still fits Daisy well. Athough Jordan should be the one to fit Gatsby's hearthrob description, but we also need the Daisy that we hate for turning against Gatsby and still foolish for Tom. We don't wanna be hurt by Jordan girl beauty if she was Daisy and this is why she wasn't casted as one.
