I think the fact that he looks forward is working to his advantage only on the breakout. He can get more leverage for his kick to have a more explosive breakout

yep I also saw another swimmer from like 2018 who also did that and a guy explained the benefits behind the super high head position in the breakout

Great video. At 4:10 you say you are faster underneath the surface than on top of the surface, which I do agree as former swimmer who loved underwaters. But in the end of the day sprinting is about the ability to maintain speed from the blocks and turns, so it entirely depends on the athlete's skills what is exactly the best method - Cameron McEvoy is a perfect example of this, he does 5 dolphin kicks from the start in his 50M free that he has been practicing single-handedly the past two years, and now is the Olympic winner from the summer as everybody knows. Would be hard to argue against him that doing more dolphin kicks would be more beneficial for him.

Finally, as a track athlete who watches this channel I get to say, I can probably dive out to 4-5 meters length... but I can't do it with a competitive entry reaction time because y'all swimmers still have that nailed down

Hi Fares, thank you for the extensive analysis. I wonder, what app do you use to project the screen/draw while projecting. Thank you for all you do!

His hand/palm position is so important, at first I think this generates too much drag when he enters the water with vertical hands, but his EVF is positioned before enter the water.

This means that it's not just about strength and power, it's about a combination of physiology and technique

Wrong arm pulls first. That's what causes him to pop up. His right arm (top arm) has to go around his left to pull first. He pushes down because you can't bend the elbow when it's going around the other arm (well, you CAN but you'd look like a pretzel). Caeleb mastered this. But there are so many great points made here by my friend Feres. Taking less kicks will not only keep him from taking advantage of less drag and being under the surface tension, it means his arms, especially in long course, have to do more work and he's more likely to fail, as does Caeleb. Other questions remain, and maybe it's time for another Zoom with Feres and me to discuss this -- like who is actually stronger relative to the resistance the produce on the water. Both are muscular, but Caeleb seems bulkier to me. And perhaps both are bulkier than either Pan or Pop. Let's face it, an anchovy can beat any human. A major key going through this 800K fluid is the ratio of resistance and power. Add muscular endurance to that equation and being as lean as possible with more and more power if possible is the goal when possible. The 50 free is equal in time to the 200 meter run. You can already see a difference int he body types between the 100 yard dash (like the 25 free) and 200 runners in general. And the 400 runners (like the 100 free) and relatively svelt compared to the 100 runners. Check this new sprinter out in running. Granted he's only moving through air -- but wait, might that mean a swimmer should be even leaner? Not perfectly sure in the 50 but I have some ideas!

La mayor ventaja la logra en el salto inicial y en el nado sub acuático en la ida y en la vuelta. Se impulsa mejor bajo el agua que los demás.

Thanks for the video, although more time is spent focusing on his supposed defects ('which can make him go 0.02s faster') that in unveiling what actually makes him the first person to go under 20s. Although it requires great power the tradeoff of popping out (on purpose) or not might deserve some attention…

Fares just a food for fought. But what if thinking about his breakouts less like an orca and more like a speedboat? Keeping his face and head above the water for 2/3 strokes after each breakout woth thatspeed and power out of the water and underwater helps him get better and stronger catches and reduces the frontal drag form head as there is no water going on the top of his body at for more than 2meters.. ?
@wouterg14 сағат бұрын
But it increases your drag from the legs way more

Breaststrokers pop up and down and freestylers with a loping stroke go up and down? I am not a big fan of short course swimming as it is more about the starts and turns than the swimming. IMHO

I refuse to believe him popping out the water on his breakout is slowing him down.. he's actually flying and has no water resistance for a moment.. and like you said water is 800 times more resistant

i think it would help if he held his line a bit longer off the start instead of immediately starting to kick.
