I used to be nihilistic and depressed, and was convinced that life had no meaning. After listening to hundreds Peterson's lectures, I have a full time job, pursue hobbies that make me feel alive and just feel happy eating breakfast. I don't try to figure out the meaning of life anymore. I just live it 👌 Thank you Sir!🤗

Mad Mazz I would not attempt to search for the meaning of life as man creates his own but try to reach happiness which rests on the peak and the path there of suffering, once we can understand that the more suffering bore gifts us experience like climbing gear thus the probable achievement of the goal not meaning to life.

I've adjusted to only listening to interviews and his public presentations at my desktop. I listen through his lecture series' on long drives when I can focus on what he's saying. Those are the most "concentrated" of his presentations. I've found that, driving alone, I max out between three and four hours. So that's just highway driving and listening. And I don't usually make it to maxing out without pausing several times to ponder something he's said. When driving with my daughter, we habitually make it through about 20 minutes of him and then have to pause and we have a 45 minute conversation starting with one of his points. I don't know how his students can sit in a lecture for two hours just taking notes.

I mean... it's really simple. Being brainwashed isn't about who you listen to, but about how. If you see Jordan Peterson and instantly disregard everything he has to say because you heard bad things about him/didn't like what he had to say -- you are brainwashed. If you see Jordan Peterson and unequivocally accept what he has to say without logically considering or challenging it, you are brainwashed. To not be brainwashed means to not be dependent on any sort of authority for understanding the world. I think most people are brainwashed as most people function on the same set of assumptions, values and behavioural patterns they got from their parents. And people who are brainwashed and happy? Ha! No chance of change there, why would they? If you're not brainwashed, it means you can consistently rethink your perspective, ideas and behaviour and CHANGE. This is what Nietzsche intended to convey when talking about the Overman (or Superman).

And he knows these videos get millions of views online so he speaks in a way to potentially help not just the physical audience, but the digital one too. I partially agree. The issue isnt the "red pill" idea, or that this channel is construing his content the wrong way. the issue is much greater than that an JP has spoke of this himself, that many people (like, most of us) will take things out of context to use in their own personal and idealistic manner as a sort of tool for validation of their own views and the invalidation of those people, groups, or ideals they despise. its cherry picking. its actually even worse than cherry picking, because you are butchering the scientific process, you have a goal in mind and are searching for pieces of evidence to validate that goal. instead of following evidence and coming to a conclusion that you may not like or approve of, but know is true. and by using content in this manner, people often misconstrue what the original author meant, and even worse, they use it against a group or ideal that the author themselves support! its like taking a lecture by JP about why social Hierarchies are important, and putting it in a video titled "this is what the government doesnt want you to know"

I'm dutch and in the Netherlands we used to have a tv program called "Meneer de Uil" in the 80s and early 90s wich was a daily puppet series for children (and adults). When you talk about the zone of proximal development that shows pops into my head. I sometimes watch old episodes that I have on DVD and when I compare it to the stuff that's being shown to kids on TV right now it really brings tears to my eyes. The amount of effort the program makers put into Meneer de Uil is off the charts. every sentence is meant to teach the children, packed with synonyms, sayings, slang, different interpretations of some concept or word. Just loaded with information and clearly meant for the Child to be in the Zone of Proximal Development. I don't see allot of that anymore. Children are dumbed down.

2:47 That reminds me of a Russian fairy tale called Vasilisa the Beautiful. In the story Vasilisa, who is around 7 or 8, is called or the bed of her dying mother who gives her a little trinket that looks like a person. The mother then tells her that if she takes trinket into a corner, gives it food and drink, and tells the trinket what is wrong, the trinket will fix it. The mother then dies, and that night the child is weeping in bed holding the trinket given to her by her mother. Vasilisa, remembering what she was told, takes the trinket into a corner, gives it food and drink and whispers her sorrows into its ear. The trinket then comes to life and tells her “ do not worry beautiful Vasilisa, go to sleep and be at peace, the night is not as wise as the day.”
@nicolasposner1417
@nicolasposner1417 6 жыл бұрын
Let me give it a shot. Vasilisa expected the trinket to fix the problem by resurrecting her dead mother (sounds like the setup of a monkey paw story) but instead of granting her foolish wish, the trinket tells her to sleep and process the event so she can deal with it in the morning in a mature way.

that makes no godamn sense. if the trinket is intelligent, how can we not assume that other ridiculous things are also possible such as reanimating the dead?

Anyone who googles the "Russian fairy tale called Vasilisa the Beautiful" will find there is much more to the story than what is given. And never, in what was given, was there anything about resurrecting or reanimating the child's dead mother.

I think you guys missed the point. What's relevant to the video is what the doll says "the night is not as wise as the day." I brought it up because of what Dr.Peterson says at 2:47 in regards to how our minds wonder into dark and irrational places at night.

I used to wake up through out the night too! However, i had a sleep study and it turns out i quit breathing 27 times per hr. Once i began using my cpap machine the "middle of the night panics" QUIT instantly. Therefore, an interrupted sleep pattern might contribute to depression rather than depression contributing to a poor nights sleep. correlation is not causation... But this guy is awesome.

I am living this. I farm by myself, battle the horrors of solitude, and became bored of farming once I maxed out my farm financially and find it hard to learn new tricks. After the landlord found out that I had a new gig, she is now pressing me to my limits of perform with threats which sent me down a deep anxiety induced depression. I have to take time for myself to center intentions and see the vast schematic of work that I must uplift myself with for forward motion. Fortunately the new farm that I started is based in growing mushrooms and small intensive gardening for educational purposes, which engages my interests as I solve the complexities. I'll also be moving out of my old farm to start part time managing a large farm for a 60 year old who is retiring, giving a new level of complexity to what I have learned on my own. I don't recommend anyone jump into this type of lifestyle, it is very toxic to one's health and requires a willpower that can regenerate enthusiasm when every piece of you is lost to apathy, working 12 hours a day, everyday for months on end.

My answer to that would be between sheep,sheep dog,tree and Shepard..you need take the Role of any 1 of the given (such as adding the sheep dog) as there are infinite possibilities that’re chaotic and non chaotic EVERY that can occur per unit time. What if a wolf was to appear?..Or if it was a pack of hunting wolves? You take the “coordinator” role in order of priority given the situation and use what you see/have as a dynamic thinker both practically and emotionally as rarely do both co-exist.

There are millions of people with disabilities who constantly live in lockdown for years, even decades, because society discriminates so badly against them, making it impossible to do the simplest things- like get on trains or buses. I hoped the pandemic and lockdowns would have garnered more empathy and support for PWD, but it's gone the other way - with people saying our deaths are acceptable. We were told not to leave our houses to even buy food. What does it take gor society to change? 😪💔

I really love Jordans circuit analogy for describing the complex nature of neural biochemistry associated with addiction. And it kinda makes sense in that the brain is just one big neural network, packed with "circutry". It's rather poetic to deal with an addiction problem by stepping back in ones conscious and setting IF/THEN conditions to undesirable triggers :D. Im-a trying this with unfortunate personality traits :D Wish me luck!
@BitchItsJules
@BitchItsJules 4 жыл бұрын
Just please be careful. Addiction will trick you into thinking you can control it. If you're really addicted to a substance then its even more risky to control it by willpower alone because of how the brain physically changes. The thing you should NEVER do is lie to yourself because your brain's conscience circuit will be first to get tangled and then addiction will take over the emotional circuits and soon youre a souless slave to addiction. It happened to me. In another video Jordan talks about this. You should find a system outside yourself to support your recovery just in case, good luck my friend!

I recall the results of the tests to be the opposite of what was mentioned though. The test subjects were NOT able to distinguish the numbers between flashes while falling, meaning the effect was psychological, not physiological.
@maelglorious
@maelglorious 6 жыл бұрын
Correct and wrong. It is not physiological in the sense that people can do anymore physically than they normally can. Cannot see faster, move faster, think faster etc. than normal. However what things can be done normally are done so in larger quantity or accuracy. Memory improves due to stress which creates the longer 'sense' of time due to more information. Thinking speeds up tremendously, anything in the field of view can be analyzed longer, complex thoughts and even plans conceived in very tiny actual time. I would say manual dexterity might improve a slight amount as well. I was in a car crash as a driver so I've experienced the phenomenon myself. A side effect of course being it is very, very fatiguing thinking that fast. Plus there are 2 forms of the test I remember, the first being the chronometer flashed faster than can typically be read... which resulted in same as control. The second flashed the duration to be remembered, and that demonstrated better recall than the control group.
@MegaUnderpantsgnome
@MegaUnderpantsgnome 6 жыл бұрын
I also recalled it as opposite. When he says "they could process the digital information faster", that's not what the experiemnt concluded with. The brain is just forming more memories from the event, which makes the recollection of it seem to take longer. Ah, just saw the one above me explained it.
