Hi, friendly comment here from a Protestant lol. I have heard Catholics mocked for this my whole life, whether from the secular world or even from other Christian groups. When I was growing up, it seemed as if most people viewed contraception as a normal part of life. My situation is a bit unique. I was still a virgin when I put my faith in Christ and God quickly put on my heart that sex is meant for marriage. So I have never been on birth control by the grace of God. I still always figured I would probably use it if I married though. Then in the past few years I have really learned more about Biblical femininity and design. I have learned to actually value the differences between men and women. I have seen how God made both complimentary and that feminism has caused huge changes in society. I have heard women talk about how the pill has been harmful to them and that it can even cause an abortion. I have become so against the pill, but that has also made me question contraception in general. The more I think about it, the more I realize society has been taught to hate things that are natural. It is natural and beautiful for pregnancy to be the natural result of a loving marriage. Of course not everyone is able to have children, but being open to that is a blessing from God. So while there are some in my life who still view contraception as harmless, I have no problem admitting that I believe the Roman Catholics were right about this. I am truly grateful that God protected me and that I never used it. If I marry someday, I want to be open to having children. They are a blessing from God, not a curse.

The beginning of Dr John Bergma’s journey into the Catholic Church was when he and he wife were looking for information about family planning without using contraception, and his father suggested “the Catholics.”

I had a bilateral salpingectomy (complete removal of both fallopean tubes) after my second child. Deep down, I always wanted a big family, but I had become convinced by the world that it was a selfish and foolish desire. So, after my second, I made sure I'd never be able to have another. A less than a year later, I rediscovered my faith in Christ and came back to the Church. Now, I live every day knowing exactly what I did and exactly why it was wrong and how I cheated my children out of siblings and how I made my willful "no" and the defiance of my Beloved God a permanent mark on my body. Thank you for explaining all of this so well. I hope and pray that many women will see these videos and not make the same mistake I did. God bless you.

It was not good for my body, but my Gyn did not believe me. So i stopped taking those things on my own, and still wanted a contraceptive. So i tried the copper iud. That thing was very, very painful for me, my body rebelled. In the end i gave up and we tried NFP. It was great learning about my body! I was so miffed to use the 'christian method', because i spent quite some time arguing with christians and defending the pill... heh... weird times. It was the first wall to crumble for me. Still took many more years for me to return to the Lord, but that happened in 2021. The truth about contraception was hard to accept when I learned about it, but I couldn’t disagree with the Church’s stance. Even from a non-Catholic angle it makes perfect sense (using contraception is a failure to accept the other in their entirety). That said, over 10 years into being Catholic and doing NFP with my wife I feel bad for all the people out there who don’t know what they’re missing by not getting contraptions and pharmaceuticals out of the picture.

Strangely enough this was the catalyst that brought me to the Catholic Church. I was protestant but seemingly out of nowhere, i started to ask myself "If i get married will i use contraception?". This question disturbed me because i felt uneasy about doing this, i felt something was "off" about contraception. So i asked my pastor and got the most wishy washy, evasive answer you could imagine, he wasnt direct and clear on the issue. So then i spoke to a catholic friend and he was very direct and clear, absolutely not, was i to use contraception. And i was at peace with that answer. And looking back this was the first domino to fall and its what brought me to catholicism

I had no idea what it did to babies if they developed, until last year! I was so shocked, and I pray I didn't kill my own baby in my womb unknowingly. I asked God to forgive me after apologizing. I also asked if there was a child I unknowingly killed in my womb, that he or she forgives me and said I'm sorry. Boy, have we women been fooled!
@adrianaansaldi92482 ай бұрын
We have been fooled, they sold the pill on the 60’s first to marry couples and Rockefeller went to talk with the Pope to try to convince him to liberate the anti contraception stance but the Pope said no. They then strategically sold the pill as “ never an abortion again”. So if we all have contraceptives abortion would disappear. We bought that too. All lies and it’s good we are talking about this things. Now I tell you that not only Catholics advice to keep yourself for marriage, other religions do to so I guess is a common sense. We go against nature when we don’t follow the Divine order and women are so detached of their biological imprint, sex leads to reproduction potentially and that is the purpose of it. It’s a mandate to reproduce and of course God made it pleasurable if not humans would not exist if sex would be painful. But love, sex and reproduction should be a combo, and everyone would be happy. We have natural methods to space up children too.

The Catholic Church decided which books and letters and documents to include as Holy Scripture... and which documents to exclude. The real problem is our fallen human nature, which has been like that way way before the 1960s. The solution, of course, is in Jesus. But gaining the mastery of our God-given desire without the loving power and unfailing resource of Jesus is extremely difficult and almost impossible, and for a person who is away from Jesus, it just isn't of interest, because serving your own self always ends up as the priority. The Pill was the unGodly ticket to 'getting away with it' . Only, when we disrupt His plans for us and think we, the creature, knows better, all manner of things go wrong, as you said.

My brother and sister-in-law on the other hand they asked for a course and there wasn't one given in their city, their approach was that people were more likely to get married in the church if they didn't have to go through a course and apparently it was more important for that bishop to just get them married as Catholic then to prepare them for marriage? There is a great book called The Catholic Women's Guide to Childbirth that is incredibly well researched and covers topics like traumatic birth, miscarriage, etc. The truth is the truth despite our experiences and just using contraceptives to feel like you have control back won't really solve the problem of your traumatic birth. I never got over the traumatic birth myself. I never got myself to get pregnant again after the first. Is it possible God planted a seed of fear in my heart because I'm not meant for more children? God works in mysterious ways after all, and he has a purpose for all of us. Some are gifted with children because they were meant to have them, some desire children but don't get them, which if we believe in God's plans can also be due to a different purpose. While I believe the church has thought well about these matters, even they don't know what God has planned for every individual and in the end we must find our way in life through Jesus and with trust in God he'll lead us on the path meant for us.

I honestly don't care what couples do in their sex lives - But don't tell me what its not, when it is. And plain hypocrisy.

I am soooo excited to hear this conversation!! Exactly! I've been saying it for years now... Here is a comment I wrote a few weeks ago... "I have said this, and will keep saying it.... I truly believe the front line in these attacks on human sexuality is at the level of the 'contraceptive mentality'....the almost universal acceptance, (and even expectation) of artificial contraception in all forms. And yet, when it comes to the Church on this issue, most of the time it's....crickets. 🦗 Why isn't the Church talking about this? A lot? The connection between contraception and abortion, the breakdown of the family, the rise of the 'pride' agenda, confusion about gender identity and the rise in 'gender politics' (to the point where we can't even define what a woman is (!)), radical feminism, a lonliness epidemic among young men, immense struggles in the realm of male and female interaction, etc., can ALL be traced back to the contraceptive mentality. We have Humanae Vitae, an easy to read document that outlined so much of this so beautifully and succinctly, and even predicted much of what has occurred as a result of almost universal contraceptive use (although I think even Paul VI would be shocked and dismayed at how far things have gone in such a short period of time!). Yet so few in the Church talk about Humanae Vitae or the fundamental teachings found in it. With all that is going on in our culture right now, why isn't it being addressed? Why are we not shouting about this from mountaintops? We are not going to regain the culture unless we hit this thing at the source. I truly appreciate what you do in your ministry! But I feel there needs to be so much more said and done about this in our Church! I wish I had some influence and could speak out more about this. I feel powerless. Yet I pray....🙏🏻" Listening to your piece here today has made me feel more hopeful. Thank you! God bless you Dr. West! ❤🙏🏻✝️

I think in a very real sense you're not an adult until you have kids. I'm a man pushing 30 not yet married and no family (yet). The crux is this: kids help save you from the hedonistic insanity of adolescence because now there's someone you love more than yourself who's going to have to deal with the consequences of your actions long after you're dead. Without kids, humans pretty much all just sink into doing whatever pleases them most in the moment. You wind up with people pushing 40 who still act 13. To be sure, kids aren't a means to correct our own moral failings, and people are just as fallen after kids as before. But a person who wants to to good in the world will almodt always be led astray without the weight of responsibility given by kids, which shifts your focus to a better place. I think a lot of our preoccupation with entertainment is a result of this meaningless void we fall into when we're cut off from the chain of life.

The Catholic church’s view on this is hypocritical. The priests rape children, often times, boys. And then the church sends the priests away to protect them (the priests, not the children). And of course nuns have been sexually abused as well but they are not innocent either. The Catholic Church was also involved in Spain’s kidnapping of THOUSANDS of newborns from their mothers, claiming the child had died after birth, and then selling the babies to families abroad. All between 1936-1990’s. The Catholic Church has also killed people for reading or translating the Bible. The Catholic Church worships Mary as the mother of Jesus, but the Bible clearly states that we should not worship or pray to any false idols. That no man can forgive sins, but Catholic priests do just that. Jesus says that we should call God, “father”, yet priests call themselves “father”. Only Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit should be worshipped and prayed to. Not Mary! We should not put any man before God. Including the Pope!

Also, a few years ago, I first heard pieces of Theology of the Body and really loved what I heard. My heart has been a lot more open to Catholicism recently; I'm starting to attend Saturday night Mass while still going to my Assembly of God church on Sundays. I really appreciate the robust theology of sexuality that comes from the Catholic church.
